I just don't get it... if no one dies there's no stakes, but if Eshonai dies, it's cheap? I think you're missing what makes it feel like it matters because you're ignoring characters around her.

Exactly, they were curious about the concept of slavery and so they visited a slavers den (or I guess a more established place for slaves in Kholinar) and found Szeth.

I feel like you're missing that the Parshendi bought Seth in Alethkar, after discovering the concept. And that was one person doing it. And we find out about this from Eshonai as she overviews her experience travelling to the capital. Really don't see how it's strange for her to still find the idea of slavery to be weird.
