More art for the biker girl's-story!

Hey everyone,

I hope you are doing well! Over here in the Netherlands it’s summer, and that always puts a smile on my face. And every break I have, I try to go outside and enjoy the sun :)

But besides that, I’ve also really enjoyed making more art for the upcomming biker story ( ...sitting in my comfortable airco’d workspace of course!). For there were always certain things I wanted to draw, but I never got around to do so. But this week I finally did- have a look!

Solar Queen art

So, in the biker-girl’s story, you will be competing agains her on the arcade, playing ‘Solar Queen’. Now this minigame is already made, and part of the main game. But not all art was complete. And I still needed to make some ‘cool’ art for the side of the arcade (like on real arcade machines). And for that I of course wanted to draw the Solar Queen herself!

But in the game itself, she is just a tiny sprite :) So I had to figure out how to detail her, and make her more interesting for the eye. And this is what I came up with- on the right you see a few steps of my drawing process, and on the left you see how the art is how I used it on the arcade. (I thought it was neat how the shape of her shield fitted in the shape of the arcade!) What do you think?

And here I used the same art again for the start screen of the game. This is still a bit of a placeholder- for I really want to put her in an action pose & animate the background. But I'll have to see if I can get around to do that. However, I do like the colors here & this was already nice to add!

A more exciting view on the bridge

Now when the biker-girl's story starts, she is on the run for the robot-police (!). But before they will find her, the Captain will take her in and hide her ( ...she has her reasons). Now to show all this, I wanted to have her riding next to the green beetle- looking through the window while pleading for help (athis way you can click on her, to start her story).

So this is what I drew for that scene :)

But while doing so, I decided to add some other ships to this bridge-view as well (one of those things I never got around to do). Now some of these ships might show up at the same time, so I really had to plan out where to place all of them, so the don’t obscure each other. And here is what I got so far: on the left the ship of the Marz-Pop girls & on the right the Junkyard.

Well, and here you can see my drawing process again. (As you can see, I drew the entite ships, so that I can move them around a bit if needed).

What do you think, will it it add something to the story, having these ships in view like this? I love to hear your thoughts on it :)

Well, have a great weekend & till next time!

All the best,
Robin

Thank you so much Erik, I'm glad you like it! But I also agree that it might be a bit disorienting... However, this is probably the best I could do; since nothing can be in front of the green beetle on the map screen (it would fall outside the screen) So I moved the ships foreward, but tried to keep their relative positions to each other the same. For example the marz-pop ship appears top left on the map, and the junkers ship bottom-right. And that is how they are also displayed through the window. ... sometimes it's just difficult to find the right balance between what's correct & what's fun. But I do what I can :)

Very cool to see the other ships through the window like this, it ties the visuals together nicely. Although it might be a bit disorienting to have them in other relative positions when looking at the map.

Oh! Thanks Rik, that's so nice of you to say :)

They look stunning. The character designs are just fantastic.
