Location: The Captain's brothers room

Hey everyone!

This week I worked on another background for the Captains story -and this time I made made the room of her brother. Yes, the Captain has a brother! Which is this friendly looking guy.

Now one of the main things I wanted to communicate through his room, is that the Captains brother always dreamed of living on a small island in the sea- living a simpler life.

But that’s not all. Once you open his room, Keen will discover a mysterious symbol that has been spraypainted on the floor... and a lot of panties. Now this discovery will be the thing that kicks off the Captain's story. But... more about that later :)

Sketch to final image

Meanwhile, let me show you how I went from a sketch to the final illustration for this room. Now all crew rooms are basically the same. So I used the background of Keens room, as a starting point for this room. And from there on I just added a lot of furniture and started detailing everything again. (at first I wanted to show a private bathroom in back wall...but that didn't work for this room. Maybe I'll add it in another crew room instead?...)

And then as a final step, I always make a blurred version of the room. And for this I always use a few simple photoshop tricks. First I push away the dark ink lines, by using the ‘paint daubts’ filter, then I heavily blur that image and make it a bit lighter- and finally I add subtle, white, horizontal gradient right behindf Keens face.

Now in game I fade in these backgrounds in, whenever a character has a dialog -it really helps to bring to focus on the characters...or on some nice underwear like here. Oh, and this image of Keen is still placeholder, but soon Keen will be carefully inspecting those panties on the floor :)

Next?

Next I will work on the scene where the Captain stand behind the meeting room table- which will include a lot of ehhh, ‘research’-pages about the symbols found in this room. I look foreward to drawing these! And in the meantime I’ve also been working on a second XXX scene for the Doctor. I’ll share more about that soon as well :)
