Location: Meeting room sketch

Hey everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed the last game-update!

Meeting room

Now meanwhile I’ve started working on the Captains story. And one of the first things I did, was design the meeting room. Because as you’ve probably noticed -so far the Captain keeps disappearing a lot during the game. And is because her standard location is actually the meeting room.

Now for this room I wanted to re-use several sci-fi elements of the ship.


For example, there will be a dozen chairs that can move through tracks in the floor. I imagned they start being lined up at the back of the room, and roll out automatically if there is ever a meeting -you know, to maximize the limited space. A variation on these chairs is already on the bridge.

Well, and then there are the monitors in the back, that came from the security room. Perhaps the add an image to whoever the captain calls over the intercom, or maybe the screens represent ofboard crew during meetings?

Now this is all to add a bit worldbuilding to the game. But I guess the more interesting part of the room will probabaly be the floating table at the centre… Because here the captain will discusses her plans with keen :)

Bridge computers

Now besides adding the meeting room, I also want to add a few more computers to the remaining bridge area. And these computers (screens) should give the player some more background information on the world of Space Rescue. Perhaps here you can read the crews files and see from which planets they come. Or maybe I could add a security-map, showing which doors unlock with which security cards? Well, it’s not set and stone yet, but the layouts below show what I planned so far.

Now I love to hear what you think of this- will it add something? -does the placement make sense? Etc. Well, please let me know!

Well, and that’s the overall plan so far. Soon I’ll share more detailed art again & explain a bit more about the Captains story itself!

That could be a really fun mini-game! I'll write it down -and if I can find a reason to do the inspection I'll add it to the game :) Thanks for thinking along!

Haha, I'm glad you like the Captains desk. I know Keen does :) And the set design of alien is so good! I love those movies as well. Did I ever mention that I was inspired by the barberella movie as well. They have thick fluffy carpets in their spaceships there, which must be so comfortable! And Keen has always just been Keen for me :) But maybe he got the name at his engeneering school...perhaps as a joke, or after a great achievement? And all the best to you as well! -Robin

That would be fun! I could probably design a few spaceships that just randomly fly bu now and then, or perhaps a few more interesting planets?..some asteroids...?

I still want to see the Captain inspect Keen's room. I wonder what she would say about it. You could make a mini game for Keen trying to make the room ready for inspection.

As soon as you said chairs on tracks, I immediately thought of the bridge chairs in the original "Alien" movie. They're on tracks too, but you don't see them move much. I've said before that you and Ron Cobb, the production designer on "Alien" have similar thoughts on starship design, although the Green Beetle is certainly a brighter home! I laughed when I saw the second image from the top that you posted above. I immediately thought, "Oh, this is definitely from Keen's point of view!" Keen never met a woman he didn't like, but he's so sincere about it, most of them seem to like him back. :-) Looking forward to further adventures of the Green Beetle's crew. Best to you and yours! P.S. Suddenly wondered ... does Keen have a first name? I suspect it must be a really unusual, long, or strange first name, or the crew would just call him that, but they all call him Keen ... maybe only the Captain knows?

Love the meeting room design. Would be nice to have some interesting stuff floating by the window every now and then.

Makes total sense to me, never again bump your knees to table legs and also never having to look for chairs that have been moved to other rooms :D

That's totally reasonable, and I hadn't even noticed the other times it happens (preoccupied with other things lol), so it's absolutely fine to justify it like this! Keep it up

Hey Kingloot, I agree! Floating table vs chair on rails; it does not make sense from a purely ship-design standpoint :) But you will see both technologies already throughout the ship -and that's because I imagined it would be a bit like mixing funiture from different time periods -like when people have glass tables, but also leather couches. And since this ship is already a bit older, I kinda imagine things would have been replaced over time, either for better or worse. Although I must also admid, that the floating table could just as well be a standing table :)

Love it all so far. One thing that irks me just a tiny bit as a sci-fi nerd is why the table is floating but the chairs aren't? Or maybe there's an in-game reason why they're on tracks? Maybe so they don't get stolen, or moved outside of the Meeting Room? Maybe Keen has to repair the tracks or find the chairs if they float instead? The art is great as always and I can't wait to see what you come up with next Robin <3
