2025 Update Letter
Added 2025-01-09 23:59:37 +0000 UTCHello everyone,
It's the beginning of a new year and it feels like a good time to share with you my thoughts about how Dean of Doom will move forward. In September, I unveiled the "Lost Episodes" format, which focuses on anything weird, fringe, or underrated in the Doomverse. I plan to make more of these in 2025. Right now I have three scripts actively brewing and at least ten more to choose from. The three I'm working on are so important to me that if I screw them up or never finish them, I could not forgive myself.
I also think the return of Sawed Off Wads is overdue. Too late in December, I got a neat idea for a Christmas Sawed Off, so I will probably work on that in July for next Christmas, and I should have enough bits and bobs to release another one during the year.
I want Season 4 to happen, but it will have to be completely written before I start the editing process, and it will probably not go on longer than ten episodes. Putting months between releases is ridiculous and irritating for viewers, and I don't want wait times to be dependent on my ability to produce text. For that reason, there will almost certainly be no Season 4 in 2025, which means that many high-profile episodes will appear to have been overlooked or snubbed. I hate to say it, but Dean of Doom can't function as a contemporary review show. Now, my place in the community is that of an archivist: I'm making episodes not just for the audience of today, but for curious new players ten years from now. That being said, the audience of today would have to wait months and months between S4E1 and S4E2 if I were to flip-flip between Lost Episodes, S4, and all the other stuff I want to (and need to) do. Instead of a three-year slog where every episode is greeted with, "You're back!," I want Season 4 to be a complete object, and bring Dean of Doom to a clear and powerful conclusion.
I'll write about Doom via Lost Episodes until I'm 80 if I feel like (Insane_Gazebo will probably also be 80 when Sunder is finally done), but I must keep Dean of Doom from blundering into self-parody, where every overstretched show will eventually find itself.
One last note before I go: in September of last year, I started a community project to honor the late Drake O'Brien (linked below). Submissions close on May 1, 2025, so from then until June 17th (TNT's 29th birthday), my YouTube activity will likely be nil. I hope this letter makes clear my channel's current situation, and I will close by expressing my thanks to each and every one of you. Without your enthusiasm and kindness, there is no show: I may have started it, but today you quite literally will it into being. Good luck to you all, and I'll talk to you soon.
Sincerely,
Nolan

2025-06-08 13:33:00 +0000 UTCLost Episodes have me very much intrigued. Stuff like 1x1, Abscission, Pandora (going off a few things you've named in the past), Secret Santa, Jamal Jones, or any of Big Ol Billy's 2024 episode releases would be cool to see if they come up, along with plenty of other options I haven't named as well.
