PATRONS GET IT FIRST! Oliver Anthony video

Here's an early Patron version of my next video! It's about Oliver Anthony and his song "Rich Men North of Richmond"- but it's also not REALLY about those things. You'll see. Featuring my new "GOBLINIFICATION" art style, let me know what you think of it. I like it so far? It's cute and it helped me do less thinking in the drawing process which can sometimes hold me back.

Finishing this essay was a real race against time to get it done while he was still relevant, a race which I may not have won haha but it was an interesting experiment. I've gotten some ideas from this one as to how to make my videos more streamlined in the future, so look forward to seeing the many creative ways I find to cut corners!

That's totally understandable! I was a bit worried about the fat jokes in the beginning too, hopefully it's clear that I'm making fun of Oliver Anthony's weird fatphobia and not actual fat people who I think are great. I shared just that clip on twitter and although nobody seemed offended by the fat jokes, I did get brigaded by a bunch of MAGA Communists (apparently an actual thing???) who called me anti-working class. Sometimes there's no way to predict what is going to upset people haha

Oh btw, since this is a video about music and unions and has the IWW in it, I thought you might mention the Little Red Song Book.

This is a good one. TBH I'd be a little reluctant to share it as some of the fat jokes cross the line of parody for me. I'm sure that's something you thought about, though. I love the new art choices! I'm looking forward to all the familiar faces that will be goblinified in future videos. Up the Wobblies! Solidarity forever!

LOL yes that is all good advice, I get into a habit of redrawing things I've already drawn just because I don't like the pixellation when I resize etc. Crowd scenes I definitely need to dial back on the details. For this one at least, I got lots of practice drawing various goblins which was useful. I think in the future I won't shy away from extremely simple crowd shots. I actually wrote and recorded about a dozen redneck jokes! I cut it down to 4 but I think I might end up with 3 for the public version

I'm sorry, CG, but this video contains your worst take yet: Zed over Rita Repulsa is full-on madness. Joking aside, this is a banger! You've mentioned that you want to reduce the amount of work the drawings take you - have you considered re-using bits, like copy/pasting bodies in crowd scenes? You could put on new heads etc to stop it from looking like it's just clone-stamped. You must have drawn like a dozen revolvers, which could probably be copy/pasted too). Also, there's a few bits where the pace slows down for something that you wanted to keep in (like the redneck jokes) - maybe you could move those bits to the end as an outtakes/extended scenes while you have credits and social media links on the screen?
