The "Nujiang 72 Turns" refers to a winding mountain road on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, located at Yela Mountain Pass with an elevation of 4,618 meters in Basu County, Chamdo Prefecture, Tibet. This remarkable stretch of road climbs from its lowest point at 3,100 meters all the way up to Yela Mountain Pass at 4,651 meters, before winding down to Bangda Town at 4,100 meters. The entire section spans about 16 kilometers.
As a crucial part of the Southern Sichuan-Tibet route, its challenging nature is exactly what makes it so appealing to cyclists and drivers alike. The treacherous twists and turns have become a legendary test of skill and determination. Every year, travelers who pass through this road can't help but marvel at this incredible feat of engineering carved into the mountainside.
