A Quick Question on Discord
Added 2025-10-26 20:02:50 +0000 UTCHey folks,
I have mostly set up a Discord server for discussions that I'm intending to connect to the Patreon soon (ish, probably late November if I'm honest. There's a lot going on)
That said, I've seen the chaos that happens when Patreon gets connected to Discord. People can find themselves added to servers they don't want.
My intention is, if Patreon will allow it, to have two tiers at the same price, one that has access to the Discord and one that doesn't, so people can disconnect from the server without Patreon automatically re-adding them.
Would you all prefer if the Discord-active tier was the current one—putting all current members into the server but allowing for opt-out—or if Discord access was limited to a new tier, making the server entirely opt-in?
Let me know your thoughts!

Opt-in for sure! Also if you ever need any technical or server management help I'd be happy to volunteer my time and experience! I help run a reasonable sized (several thousand members) inclusive TTRPG Discord server (Cypher Unlimited), and I've got loads of experience in how to make a server a positive, inclusive and most importantly safe place 💜

I’ll opt in, but there are potential problems with summarily adding people who might not be paying attention until they get added - or who once used discord but no longer do. If an abandoned account gets hacked the user isn’t going to notice the way an active user hopefully would.
