A promise of victory

A long journey home

The price of alliances

Lorraine Adamant, Pentarch of the Kingdom of Adamant, has crossed hundreds of light-years to find the allies needed to overthrow her uncle: the man who killed her family and stole her mother’s throne.

The allies she found aren’t the allies she wanted, but three powerful sentient battlecruisers and a skilled covert operator from the United Worlds’ seedy underbelly are a force to be reckoned with. Between the firepower of the Valkyrie-class battlecruisers, the minds of the Synthetic Intelligences that command them, and the skills of the spy who loves her, Lorraine has a real chance of saving her Kingdom.

If she can get them all home.

Great series, as with all your books fluid and well written story telling. I'm hooked.

Phil from France

Yeah, like I said, it's an incredibly minor thing! Really not something to worry about at all.

Paul Zagieboylo

On a regular chess board, equal pieces face each other in the starting position. In the graphic, the white queen is opposing the black king, which is wrong. But to be honest, if Paul had not pointed it out, I would not have spotted it either ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess#/media/File:ChessStartingPosition.jpg

Gerhard Blab

Both sides clearly have the queen standing to the right of the king (the way Black sets up rather than White, which has the queen to the king's left). As for the board being sideways, I mean that the board itself is sideways relative to the pieces, not the viewpoint (you're completely right about the composition, it looks amazing). I guess I'm assuming the translucent squares are intended to be light squares while the completely transparent ones are dark. Traditionally the right-hand corner for each player (h1 or a8) is a light-colored square, while the left-hand corners (a1 and h8) are dark squares: the opposite is true in this setup. But seriously, this is the sort of thing that only the most unnecessarily detail-oriented nerds will ever notice! It's a great cover regardless!

I'll admit, I don't understand either of your questions? There is are two clear colors on the board (if intentionally not pure black or pure white) and the board is set up sideways so that the composition works?

Glynn Stewart

Is it worth asking why both chess armies are set up as Black? And also why the board is sideways? ("White on the right", you know.) The Valkyrie sure looks amazing though! Really looking forward to this one.
