Valhalla Combat 0.9.9 SE

Finally finished writing the MCM. Fixed all of the CTD issues.

Requirements:

Skyrim SE(AE version won't work atm)

latest version of TrueHUD

Changelog:

-reworked blocking. NPCs cannot do timed block ATM, which will be addressed in the upcoming AI update.

-You can parry projectiles/deflect them back at your enemies

-A new balance system. All sorts of offensive/defensive actions damage balance and actors with 0 balance stagger on hit on all light attacks. Heavy attacks, however will stagger on hit/staggerlock your enemies as long as you're not in a stamina debuff state(indicated by your stamina meter's color given you have truhud)


-Please delete the nemesis folder in the mod; I accidentally left it in there. It might lead to CTDs.

-0.99b: Attempted to fix one of the notorious CTD issue

-0.99c: fixed the random CTD by temporarily disabling the function that's causing it. This is a dirty fix but it'll work, while I look for the solution.

Have fun and please let me know if there are any recurring/new issues.

We should have a setting that let us have stamina consumption for light attacks even when we hit an ennemy, imho. Setting the regen rate for light attack hit to 0.00 just stop the regen but doesn't consume any stamina when we hit Also 0.9.9b and 0.9.9c don't have the nemesis patch, is this normal ? thanks for your work

Hello, really nice mod I don't know why but missed light attack don't consume any stamina. It stops the regeneration but that's all If I try to disable the light attack stamina in mcm settings and reenable it, it works but there's a significant delay Also I still can attack while the samina bar is grey ? afaik the only mod that alter stamina in my modlist I'm trying to use Loki Poise mod also, how should I tweak your MCM for loki poise mod ? I don't have a VR device myself but I've heard of a way to port SE plugins to VR; I'll try to do it after AE porting but there might be some difficulties I don't know of yet

Is there anyway to disable certain killmoves? Cutting off the heads of ghosts or people wearing certain hoods in my game causes immediate crashes. This mod does not seem to respect Violens settings at all, and I have dismemberment disabled for a reason. Will editing the "Killmoves.ini" break the game?...

EDIT: I believe I fixed this after some further troubleshooting, was partial/entirely user error (out of date version of truehud)

I don’t think it’s Valhalla combat’s issue; but it might be some weird conflict. Could you try disabling Valhalla combat and see if target locking works?

Hello dTRY, I'd like to share what's in my head about the next update. Maybe, could you make an exhaustion feature that prevent the actor from doing any type of attacking when his stamina goes low? There is a mod called Everyone's Stamina Matter has these feature.

Hello dTRY! I think i got a report too that maybe relevant to @Hello World Z 's question :) I dont know if you are planning to overhauling the stagger system as your own. If yes, im sorry to wasting your time reading my comment. ✌🏻 Just a quick report that my enemy doesnt stagger if I hit them with dual casting destruction with stagger perk activated (I use firebolt for instance, because i've use it everytime even before Valhalla Combat are installed). Same thing with the Unrelenting Force shout level 2 , i got my 2 of 3 word on that shout that i keep using it on my enemy but they seems immune to the stagger too, same as the dual casting destruction problem as i've said earlier. As i've said before, maybe you are already have a plan on build your own stagger system. Then I'll just wait for the next update. Cheers 😁

I have the same issue. Even when timed blocked, stamina consumption is significantly increased to the point of depletion, but when Balance is enabled, stamina consumption normalizes. I have tried disabling some other mods and it does not seem to be due to conflicts.

I don't know if this is intended or not, but when I turn off the "Balance" in the MCM, the stamina settings and adjustments stop working. Anyone else experiencing this or is this just a conflict with some other mod on my end?

FInally tracked down the problem i suppose it's not actually a bug but if you use Poise Balance Overhaul, that takes control of True Hud's special bar over this.

Hey so for some reason because Valhalla takes over truehud API there is no longer the ability to target lock with true directional movement. I was wondering if there would be a fix for this?

This mod on occasion while detecting TrueHUD API it fails to take control of the special bar for some reason and as minor an annoyance as it is, it drives me nuts to see it in red, arre their logs or something i can check to see what the problem might be?

So no stamina regen while blocking has some flaws, when enemies stamina bar depletes, they just keep on blocking and doesn't regen stamina, so whole the time they just keep blocking with 0 stam doing nothing else.

Execution is not properly performed on dragon priests with 0 stun; killmove animation is played, but they do not die and my attacks do not hit them. I'm also using ADXP/MCO, Violens, ADRI's creature behavior mod and UC Creatures Behavior compatibility mod. Edit: disabled balance system, they were no longer invincible.

If I play a new game, Valhalla won't obtain TrueHUD API and Elden counter's stun patch. Only if I save and load again it will works as expected. I'm also using Hellblade. It doesn't work too when beginning a new game without saving and loading.

Just noticed that my perfect block is consuming stamina even though I've set it to 0.00 in MCM. Not sure what causes this. Also I have made sure to choose the correct keybind for block in MCM.

dTRY, Did the Valhalla have their own stagger animation/screen shake? i feel really dizzy when NPC stagger my character. hahaha EDIT : I'm installing poise from loki to fix the stagger and lower screen shake effect. Just an suggestion, maybe u can add stagger screen shake effect can be tweak in MCM like your mod "Stop on Slash" mod.

There's a mod called "Enemy Circling Behavior" that you may want to look into in the meantime, which allows you some control over enemy aggression. I do agree with your criticisms, just recommending that mod just in case this particular change doesn't align with dTry's vision for the mod.

Its kind of interesting how every WIP mod with stagger feature has this exact same issue: Valhalla, Poise Stagger Overhaul and Project Impact. Its probably something that is really hard to balance. I personally like aggressive enemies, but I agree with your point about staggerlock. My own proposal is to give stagger immunity for few seconds after getting staggered 3 times. That is how Inpa Sekiro combat does it.

I'm going to be honest, As much as I like many features of this mod, with the way skyrim's ai works the player stagger is a straight up turn off in the mod. I can't begin times where a large number of enemies (Especially wolves) got one good hit on me and then it was instant death because they were so aggressive in attack that I got staggerlocked until death. Some changes need to be made for this to really be a viable option for a combat mod. First Staggerlock should be a toggle-able option. Second either the AI needs to be tuned to be way less aggressive and only attack one or two at a time or the length of the player's stagger state needs to be halved. Or at the very least give us an mcm option to allow for us to edit that ourselves and leave it up to the players digression.

Not sure if this is a conflict with ADRI's creature behavior mod, but i can't seem to execute creatures properly. It will give me the animation for the execution but then the creature doesn't die and it becomes immune to attacks

Seems like the poise/execution system doesn't work on monsters, I had hunt of hircine and the goblin didn't died after doing an execution move on it

So I have MCO/ADXP, Project Impact, Project impact block, and obviously this mod, and I disabled Balance system and I haven't had a crash yet!!! Usually I'll be crashing already but I haven't. So I will travel a few areas and see. It has something to do with that one. I think Project impact is making the Balance crash, because when I disable it and used Project impact block, I wasn't getting any crashes thus far, so I will experiment some more. This is a excellent mod by the way. Update, Project impact doesn't go well with the Balance system, crashes the game.

I'd like to try this mod out but I'm a bit confused as to what I would need to disable to do it. As far as I can tell it has parrying/deflection of various sorts, stagger, and some blocking. Does it have it's own animations, or will it work in conjuction with other mods like Precision, MCO, Hellblade, etc? Basically many of Distar/ADRI's mods. I'm looking to do a new combat system but I don't know how this goes with other mods that have yet to be publicly released or if I need to get rid of any mod that staggers, parrys, or blocks to use this.

Its already fix for me after i converted back to SE version. Everything is Granted and Installed. And the only problem is i facing some random CTD. The main problem cause TrueHUD API not detected on valhalla combat is valhalla combat is not compatible with AE version.

Random crash happen after 20-30 minute gameplay. Crash when combat and non combat. UPDATE : Turn off ABR & Project Impact from ADRI. I replace with ADXP from Distar. Its fix the frequent random CTD. But still have random CTD around 50-60 minute gameplay. Will try to chnage back to ABR without Project Impact. ValhallaCombat v0.9.9c SE UPDATE II : Using ABR + Valhalla Combat + Elden Counter = result crash when combat scene about 2-3 minute. Next time i try to use ABR + Valhalla Combat only. And maybe ADXP + Valhalla Combat and will give a result later. UPDATE III : Disable "Balance System" fix the CTD for now. Thanks to Serados. Now its working with ABR, AMMCO & ADXP.

I know I can but why would I while the goal is to give feedback to a EA mod? I like the stam system it just doesn't make sense a two handed swing and dagger swing both cost 30 stam, while doing everything perfect idk why dtry skip on this very basic thing to make different stam cost for different weapons so i'm curious more than anything.

You can disable stamina attack consumption from this mod if you want and replace it with another mod that allows for weapon type stamina cost like "Everyone Stamina Matters". But keep in mind that by default light attacks don't cost any stamina if you hit the enemy.

yo dtry finally got couple hours of game time with valhalla, I actually never crashed. I'm also using adxp for the 1st time was using skysa so some problems i had might be related to adxp. Here is the only issues I have, sometimes whenever I block (probably timed block) my block gets stuck in the air, I also realized a vanilla like block anim happens before my usual block animations. Violens kill moves wouldn't kill some targets and was bugging them out. turned out killmoves for melee and it was fixed so it might be incompatible with valhalla. I also realize balance is way off, like 2 handed weapons are so much stronger than one handed since swing stam cost is fixed, daggers are close to useless etc. Also some parries I might be losing magicka when I shouldn't (not sure about this one need to test further). Other than that everything awesome, combat plays really well.

Tried the save and reload, and it didn't work. @dTRY, if the TrueHud API, Special Meter, and Stun Damage Patch aren't hooking, what am I actually missing--gameplay-wise. I assume combat is essentially the same. I'm just missing the additional bars that help me better understand some of the mechanics, but its still playable. Correct?

You were correct. It seems like I had ammo installed but it was not functioning on my playtest, so when I installed Valhalla on top of it I couldn't know it had caused the change in movement. Thanks, keep up the great work! Another brainlet question: how do I get Valhalla to hook into TrueMovement / TrueHUD? I have it installed but doesn't seem to detect each other.

Glad you like it! It's actually zero-impact since everything is implemented through the .dll plugin. As for your question no, but I could be AMMCO which does exactly that thing.

Found out about your modding work today, and was excited to try it out! Amazing that it's' so low-impact on my system despite so many features. Is the mod supposed to stop running with weapons drawn, though? I was able to run and sprint just fine before installing Valhalla Combat, now as soon as I unsheathe I have to slow walk everywhere. If it's intentional, then how can I disable it? Is there a file I can hide to restore movement speed?

the ctd seemed to stop for me once i moved it near the top in nemesis, i had just done a timed blocked then i hit my key for elden counter, as soon as i made contact i crashed.

Try deleting folders nemesis_engine, meshes and scripts from your Nemesis output, then rebuilding Nemesis behavior. Worked for me.

In the compatibility sub menu, I get the follow "errors": Truehud API Not Installed Special Meter Not granted Nemesis Stun Damage Patch Not Installed I have TrueHud installed and I have checked the Stun Damage Patch in Nem. Is there something else we are supposed to do?

It works but yes ordinator's timed block has a soft conflict with this mod. I'd suggest using a lighter alternative such as Adamant that doesn't have a timed block perk.

Is Elden Counter a hard requirement? I don't like using it because it just lets you spam free power attacks for the duration of combat, which is insanely op.

Stamina drain is intended to be delayed. This is because with precision your swing is no longer than a single frame but a time window during the attack animation. If I apply drain during the swing, you might get the missed attack stamina penalty before hitting an enemy with the same attack.

It’s up to you. I’ve explained Valhalla’s stagger system. You can use both which might lead to a bit of consistency issues or choose one of them.

Hey, heads up, experiencing one bug. Same as the last public build. It seems that the stamina drain is slightly delayed? Regardless of if I'm using TrueHUD or not, the stamina drained when attacking is about half a second to a full second after I've finished my swing, rather than being immediate.

Do you take feature requests? If not, then sorry for bothering. Anyway I'm just asking for some MCM options regarding the stun system. Stun regeneration, hp % based modifier on stun regeneration speed, faster stun regen when holding block. This would give option to make the stun system more similar to Sekiro. "Why not use Inpa Sekiro at that point?" The mod is great but it is script based and has a lot of bugs. Your execution system is much more reliable.

I was thinking more of flavouring stuff like flinching,everyone's stamina matters or unblockable for example. Not really sure they are redundant with valhalla rn. Also I seem to can't right click block with dual wield using skysa now. Do I need to use dual wield blocking mods with it?

It’s universal, but I highly recommend using it with MCO since you can chain heavy combos, which plays well with the new stagger/stun system

I use MCO which does make a big difference in terms of fluidity; that’s pretty much the only combat mod aside from valhalla and elden counter I use

Amazing mod sir. Thanks for making everything optional in MCM. Edit: I'm aware of an issue. I'm currently using dual wield blocking. Bind blocking to mouse4 & set the "Alternative blocking key" to mouse4 too. When I press mouse4 to block, it's just the vanilla blocking mechanic instead of Valhalla's blocking mechanic. But if I use right-click, then it works perfectly. I'm still trying to fix it, will let you know once I did it.

Good work man. Now it's finished ,or at least coming close to it, can we get your recommended combat mods to go with it? Your showcases always looked awesome. Also kinda confused what mods to use with it now it covers too much lol
