I have got so much catching up to do lol. It's late, but I don't have work tomorrow(yep, looks like my ass is staying in SK for now. family wore me down -and there's still lots of hiking trails for me to explore.. lol)
That said- I love this song, they performed this during the HYYH Epilogue tour around various asian countries and I did have the chance to go more than once, but life and other things kept me from going. The tour started in late 2015 with only three stops if I remember correctly- it was SK, Japan, and Philippines? I think, take it with a grain of salt cause I could be wrong. I'm sure another ARMY will correct me (thank you in advance).
It got expanded though(like quite a few of their tours) into 2016.
Also wanted to touch on BTS not being the first to talk about depression in their songs/music. Of course they're not the first, however in Kpop- even though other artists tried... especially in the late 90's early 2000's because everyone wanted to be like Seo Taiji and talk about 'real shit'. The companies didn't really want to 'ruffle feathers' too much so they had this balance of... maybe we'll write this one song that actually touches on depression, or this one song that touches on bullying, or this one song that touches on loving you for you.... but we're going to mask it with bright colors and we're not going speak on it directly, we're going to make this song about depression a love song and talk about how breakups put our mental state into this downward spiral-
Which, not saying it didn't work... plenty of that kind of music reached people who had similar feelings but it was about only one part of depression.. one reason for depression. It wasn't making the right impact on a larger scale.
And again, that's nothing against the artists, who most had nothing to do with the songwriting.
And if the singer can't feel or express what the song is about... then the audience, the listener might not feel it, thus not making an impact on that person.
BTS on the other hand has chosen actively to speak on things that at the time, people were not talking about. At that time people were looking for that comfort but Kpop certainly wasn't giving them that comfort.
Yes, there are some fans who like to go overboard and claim things that anything but true. Some fans embellish a lot on certain things. And some try to make BTS out to be helpless in certain situations but will then boast how strong they are and all that.
Fans of BTS are not the only ones to do this, of course... all fans do. Not even of just Kpop fans. Sci-fi fans, Comic fans, movie fans.... fucking everyone lol. It's a bad habit of humanity to be honest.
That whole cave man mentality hasn't left us 100%. But the things that remain true- BTS popularized writing your own lyrics in Kpop, BTS popularized talking about 'real shit' in kpop, BTS popularized Kpop(yeah I said it. And I'd happily say it again), BTS popularized idols having their own variety shows/slice of life content.
Again, not invent, not came up with.... Popularized.
There's some ARMY from back in the day- mostly 2013-2015 who 'left the fandom' because BTS was gaining popularity. Especially in 2015. Some people just like niche things and think that being a part of something not many know about.. somehow makes them cooler or special.
I've always had an issue with the gatekeepers, it's like they don't actually listen to what the members have said. BTS from the get go have talked about how they wanted their voices their stories to be heard by as many people as possible.
So it always has irked me when people make those stupid ass videos of "I used to be an ARMY, here's why I left the fandom" Most of them claim BTS got too popular and so... they stopped paying attention to them. Others generalize, take one or a handful of toxic situations and claim it was the fandom's fault... like they can't just listen and support BTS without engaging with ARMYs, I only engaged with a limited amount of ARMYs after certain 2015 events... that didn't prevent me from supporting or consuming content and music from BTS though. Guess some people really can't walk and chew gum at the same time.
Anyway, I'm rambling...
Thank you as always for the content, I'll try to catch up tomorrow. Thanks so much for the drop.💜💜💜

I also had the oportunity to saw them live during the Wings tour by 201 in Chile and previously in México during the Red Bullet tour back by 2015 and you're right, they looks even better in real life, most of them looks tanned with the exception of maybe Yoongi but all looks awesome, it was surreal to see them like this....unforgetable experience! 💜

this song...is my all time favorite BTS song, is my anthem, the lyrics tell the story of a part of my life, is impossible not to get emotional and I am pretty sure the guys also feel related with the meaning of the song applied on their lives, personally live the part I felt the most is the RM's part almost at the end, about what you mentioned Nick I for sure would cry if I heard "Whalien52" live....I guess it was at the end of that tour in Korea (maybe "Love Yourself tour"? I am not sure) on the crowd armys had prepare a project for them and I guess was during or before they performed this song that armys shows the project to the guys and they got emotional... they cried, if I am wrong please someone correct me, thank you for the reaction!

Never stop having these discussions and letting us hear them like you do! I’m sure you won’t haha but please don’t stop, I love hearing your opinions, how you start talking about other stuff but then bring it back round to the video, you’re so good at articulating yourselves, every single one of you, and I just thank you for even letting us be apart of these conversations! I love that you don’t sugar coat your words and talk so straightforward, people shouldn’t be afraid to do that, as long as your respectful then what’s the harm? I’m glad you don’t take comments to heart because I hope nothing stops you guys from doing what you’re doing now and have been doing this entire time, thanks so much for the content 💜

I haven't finished the video yet (at 49 mins) but I really wanted to pause and write these thoughts out because I purposefully sat out of the comments in the boracity reaction. It got unnecessarily heated there and I always blame this, as well as the tone of the video like you guys spoke on here, on the truly ugly divisiveness promoted in the kpop industry.
Everything has this ridiculous battle line drawn, whether it be between fandoms, gender, awards, personal preference or opinion on artistry, etc etc. Nothing is allowed to just be a nuanced opinion that doesn't ultimately diminish the focus on the basis of what it's all really about: enjoying the music and performance, and if you stan a group, supporting them based on your own morals and values. It's always either this or that and if you aren't saying THIS then you are an enemy of THAT. Case in point with how you guys literally agreed with a lot of the points being made by boracity magazine but because you disagreed with the journalistic voice and standpoint, you were made out to be an enemy. Shit was wild.
Fans love to say that their group only has their fandom, but if everyone was allowed to just be at peace and enjoy things openly, and if people didn't constantly fuel the fire unnecessarily because they enjoy the power trips from degrading others (whether it's out of a twisted sense of revenge or just being a shitty person), everything wouldn't be such a constant fight. Some people really just need lives and hobbies instead of leaning into being terrible people for shits and giggles or doxxing people based on made-up conclusions without full context. If only there was some kind of entertainment to consume positively to combat this.....
Specifically to my fellow ARMY, if you hate how companies and institutions treat the people you support, it would make sense to not aspire to behave like them. You don't have to like kpop specifically. No one has to. You can enjoy BTS regardless. No one will ever be our guys, will ever be able to claim their amazing achievements or journey to the top and in our opinions compare to their artistry. That's fine. But actively behaving as if we as a fandom are somehow superior to the entire industry and flaunting this perceived power is not it.
Okay rant over! I love Whalien 52, it's one of my favorite bsides from HYYH. If I ever heard them sing it live with the raw emotion you can feel here I'd probably pass out from crying, lmao. The song is such a beautiful poetic journey through pain, and I love how you guys made that connection between them and the physical presence of ARMY in concert (and just the growth and support in general) being the indication that the song was eventually received as the lyrics express they desperately wanted. Even after years I never thought of this specific song in that way and it's brought a whole new dimension of enjoyment to it for me. Now I gotta continue the video 😅 But I'm happy I got that off my chest.

I'm begging you guys to listen to "Hold me Tight" literally its like top 5 for me 😭 and also when your done with In The Soop, maybe you guys should do a poll to see what people want next because they have a lot of stuff, they have Burn the stage, Bring the soul, break the silence, Bon voyage etc. Also Lo the concert your talking about when ARMY surprised BTS w/ Young Forever was in 2019 @ Wembley Stadium in the UK. Y'all should react to that video

Btw Bts do have official doc series. Burn the stage, bring the soul and break the silence following their tours. They are coming out with doc series with Disney+ this year which I think starts from the beginning. Maybe after in the soop we can get a poll on what series next ??

Can you guys react to Black Swan the art film performed by MN Dance if you haven't already? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it and the difference in production from the studio version. I think Curt would have a field day with all the symbolism. &
