New Light Update, April 2025: Vault of Glass Defeated!
Added 2025-04-05 17:33:39 +0000 UTCVault of Glass Defeated
In March, an intrepid fireteam of six Guardians dove into the Vault of Glass. They had nothing but a backpack full of rations, stars in their eyes, and a desire to beat the absolute milk out of any Vex unit they met. Not going to lie, during the first half of their run, we were pretty sure the fireteam was doomed to fail. They had just found the Aegis of Kabr but decided to try to flee the Templar fight entirely. But then...!
If you want to know what saved the fireteam from certain doom, you’ll have to watch the Vault of Glass video on our YouTube channel. Part 1 of their adventure is set to premiere today at 2:00 PM (14:00) US Central.
We’ll also be talking about the Atheon stat block with our Content+ patrons via Discord, tomorrow (Sunday) at 3:00 PM (15:00) US Central.
Last but not least, thanks to community artist Caannr, EVERYONE gets to download some amazing Vault of Glass map assets, attached to this post. You can also find them on the Velvet Fang website, in the Other Assets download folder. If you see Caannr on the server, please be sure to give him a thanks for making our Vault of Glass run so much more special with his stunning art.
Surplus Strength
For the first time, the Vanguard’s Strength is over 150%! City jumpships and sparrows are being sold to Guardians at a 75% discount. Amanda Holliday’s stock of adoptable vehicles was also refreshed.
With so much surplus Strength, the Vanguard decided to spend some of it to make the following improvements:
Raised the Cosmodrome beacon network system to Good status, after Omnigul’s forces knocked out several nodes.
Raised the Meridian Bay beacon network system to Good status. Kaen-5 absolutely loves being able to contact her fireteams whenever now!
Raised the Ishtar Sink beacon network system by one tick (did not change status).
Vanguard R&D finished development on HLM202–FTR. Foetracer is now a known & craftable exotic!
Exotic Item Updates
Some exotic items function a bit differently in the New Light campaign than they do in normal D&Destiny gameplay. We’ve issued updates to the following items:
Celestial Nighthawk: Reduced the increased Light Level for Deadeye to 50% of your proficiency bonus.
Peregrine Greaves: Knockback on failed save only affects creatures within your grapple range.
No Time to Explain: Time-Slip stacks now reset to 0 on a short rest.
Tommy’s Matchbook: Clarified Ignition Trigger, stages gained after each shot, but before you roll damage.
Actium War Rig: Updated this old exotic to fit our new design standard. The bonus dice for Automatic Weapons now scales with proficiency bonus, and also grants a once-per-turn Mulligan effect based on proficiency bonus.
In Case You Missed It
A few other changes were made to the campaign throughout March. We posted about these to the #event-announcements channel, but here’s a recap:
With the Vault of Glass cleared, the Light flows more freely than before. The level cap is now 14th. We've also adjusted the rate at which PCs level up. Overall, it'll take far fewer sessions to reach higher levels. This is due to both the defeat of VoG and how session scheduling changed in recent months.
Removed the rule of "you stop accumulating XP if you reach the amount of XP needed for your next level." You can now store excess XP, but you do still need to buy your levels one at a time.
Two new repeatable Patrols bounties added for The Dark Below storyline: The Chosen and Voice of the Swarm.
Added a Stand in the Shooting Range (Armor Practice) DT activity.
Updated Vanguard Deployment DT report to include telemetry items. Also increased the amount of telemetry data Vanguard Deployment awards.
Patrol For the Vanguard now awards telemetry data.
Rewrote instances of DT granting telemetry data to hopefully be more clear on the max allowed telemetry gain through DT.
Future Changes
Here’s what we’re working on next for the New Light campaign:
Modifiable jumpships will become available to all PCs.
Sunsingers (1e) are getting a rebalance.
More exotic items are being updated to our new development standard. (Actium War Rig is an example of an exotic item updated to our new standard.)
