2022-05-14 01:19:51 +0000 UTCSome of this has been mentioned, but I'll go a little more into it- So the first song 'Come Back Home' is a remake- Many call it a cover, but technically it was a remake as Seo Taiji himself gave BTS permission to remake this song. So it's not exactly like his original but it's very similar and the message is the same. Seo Taiji & Boys relesed Come back home in 1995- all 7 members grew up knowing very well who Seo Taiji was as he was the game changer in the music industry. In 2017 he came back to the stage for his 25th Anniversary stage special called Time Traveler. During this show he has BTS take the lead and perform Come back home- their way in the FIRST OFFICIAL remake of the song in 22 years. He had them join him for other songs as well, using this special show to also publicly name BTS as his successors. To a lot of international fans back then, they didn't quite understand what that meant. They didn't get why suddenly people were either going crazy with excitement and awe, or trying to find a way to insult BTS without insulting Seo Taiji who is very much still well respected and loved. So why the big deal? Seo Taiji is seen as the godfather/founding father of Kpop. He changed the music industry from the charts being filled with mostly ballads and trot songs to suddenly the top of the charts were Seo Taiji & Boys- hip hop/pop/rock/metal group who was making music and performances they hadn't seen or heard before. Music that criticized the Korean government, that spoke to the youth, that Seo Taiji wrote himself and didn't care that quite a few of his songs were actually banned from being showcased on tv or on the radio. Come Back Home came about a time in SK when teenagers and pre-teens were under a lot of stress when it came to school. If you didn't study and get the best grades, then you couldn't hope to go to a top school, if you didn't make it as a top student, well mom and dad couldn't brag to their friends, you were not making them proud.... this caused a lot of kids to make a choice between two- Either take their own life, or run away from home and hope to make a new life. This was a huge problem, and Seo Taiji wanted to reach out to those kids and let them know that running away wasn't the answer, that there were more options. He also criticized the parents as well. So, while doing a simple cover wasn't new... Seo Taiji only had allowed BTS to do a full remake in 22 years. This song was special, and to him, BTS had already proved they were the ones who could do it justice. BTS were known for their songs helping the youth, criticizing not just the government but older generations and schools, anything they felt needed to be talked about. This was very much in line with what Seo Taiji had done with his group in the early 90's. They made music that criticized, that were aimed at helping the youth through growing up and troubling times. So for him to stand in front of the huge audience that attended this special concert.... And say that BTS were his successors... that hit for many fans of not just BTS but Seo Taiji. Funny note on this song as well. When the Audio was released for the song, many ARMYs were split in different sections when it came to the opening high note in come back home. Mostly people seemed to think it was either Jimin or JK. which was hilarious once the 4th muster hit... we got the answer. This performance was from 4th muster and was the first time they performed their full remake of the song. Jin's high notes shocked everyone like I mentioned- Mic drop performance Yoongi did have an issue with his in ear, which is why he pulls it out of his ear and turned his mic off. Fans were impressed by some fan cams that showed Yoongi very slyly letting Hobi and Joon know he wasn't going to be able to continue the song. Yoongi points to his mic and in ear and turns off his mic at one point. Hobi and Joon stepped right in and took over for him, including his little adlibs throughout the song. I love the 4th music, this took place for 2 days in January 2018 in South Korea. The DVD came with lots of goodies too once it was available. The No More Dream Dance break is one of the more popular BTS dance breaks as all of them slayed it, and Hobi always gets into it and ARMY collectively loses their minds. I'll stop here for now. This performance is to me a great representation of the essence of BTS live. They always give 200% in what they do, the energy of the crowd is amazing, the hip hop influence, the rap, the vocals.. their stage presence is unmatched whether they dance or not, and then they add some break dances on top of that in case we weren't convinced that they ate that lol. To me J-Hope stood out in this, like I'm not over him in this performance, he just oozed swag and charisma, but they all killed it, I mean RM's rap and Jimin's ad libs with his low register? 🔥 Come Back Home is a remake they did of the song from the iconic group Seo Taiji & Boys, the choreo is well known from that group too. They only performed it during the 4th muster in 2018. The 25th anniversary concert of Seo Taiji took place in 2017. Mic Drop remix's version already dropped at that time but they like to perform the original version in SK. And yes during Mic Drop Suga's in-ear wasn't working so RM & Hobi stepped in to help doing his parts and Suga kept the right attitude like real professionals. Funny Lo doesn't like the original beat in Mic Drop, I always listen to the original song rather than the Steve Aoki remix, top 5 for me. I wish I could see it live, I'm so sad it's not in the anthology album.
