ToM Future Design

Heya,

Progress on V0.32 is going as planned. However… I noticed something:
before we even reach Version 1.0, we’ll already have beaten Pokémon Gen 1 in total recruit count.
Sooo, I’ll let you all vote on what direction you prefer next.

Future Design Options

• Focus on optimizing
I’m aware of the lag spikes caused by VisuStella. Fixing this alone could take half a month, since the code is obfuscated and difficult to work with.

• Same old, same old
Keep the current pace with 3–5+ new recruits per update.

• More Story
This would reduce the number of recruits to 1 per update, but I would spend more time fleshing out the world and pushing the main story forward.
Mystra’s storyline is long—extremely long.
The plan is for her story to be around 75% finished by the time Version 1.0 releases, cutting out fluff and adding more gameplay.
If I fully focus on the main story, I expect it to be complete around Version 0.8-ish.

• Hybrid Approach
Same overall plan, but with fewer recruits per update while filling the world with quests, encounters, and side content—so there’s more to do than just running around.
Think of characters like Shara, our favorite “LET ME HIT YOU!” thief.

About Optimizing: I personally think the base problem is the js-based RPGMaker Engine. How effektive is it trying to fix something that might be fundamentally problematic? I feel like only an engine switch can truly fix the performance problems - but that means a giant amount of work (more than it's worth). PS: Having a Game Engine without an object-based programming language is... i don't get it. At all. -> Just some random thoughts

The hybrid approach is interesting, but optimization is the top priority, even if it takes half a month. The game will become increasingly laggy with each update if Visutella isn't fixed immediately. Playing with current old saves is becoming increasingly frustrating due to these lags. And the game being already extremely LONG (Thx RNG if you want ALL the recruits + echo for lvl up) doesn't make you want to make a new save EACH time because of this. Quality over quantity first !
