The Super Nintendo was released in North America in 1991 and it featured an almost identical lockout chip from the NES known as the CiC.

By 1994 cartridge based disk copiers became popular which easily circumvented any region protection. In this video we look at different methods Nintendo used to detect copiers and lock out backup copies.
