To embroider towels is an ancient Ukrainian folk custom. Various embroidered or woven compositions reflect the worldview and customs of ancestors. I have collected for you a selection of old towels of the 19th and 20th centuries from different parts of Ukraine.

Woven and embroidered towels were used not only for ceremonial actions at weddings. There are also separate towels for icons in churches and at home, they are also used to decorate wedding photos in frames on the wall. A newborn baby was carried to baptism on a towel, and a person was escorted on his last journey. Much of the above still lives in our everyday life and traditions, even if in a simplified version.
