Badges, Cutscenes, and Dialogue

Hey everyone!! These past few weeks, I've been integrating many of the game's core systems — characters, dialogue, cutscenes, collectibles, and save data — into a single, cohesive whole that's really starting to look like the intended play experience. Whoa!!

The obvious fun part of this: you can now earn badges, the game's main collectible. Characters can give them to you during dialogue, and also tell whether or not you've collected them (to give context-sensitive reactions.) The video above shows off a (very debug) "questline", in which I read a sign, get a mission hint, talk to Russell, and get a badge for it. You get to place the badges you earn wherever you want on your journal, and rearrange them whenever you want, too.

Badges don't have to spawn from character interactions - they can also be laying out in the open, e.g. at the end of a platforming challenge. (Or hidden inside conspicuously-bombable rocks...)

My usual WIP disclaimer — this whole area is temp nonsense purely built for testing these system interactions, and the whole "badge get!" sequence is still blockout animation and has no sound yet. Just imagine the collectathon jingle of your choice. :)
