I hope you're all doing all right!
As you know, I'm still recovering from Covid, so I'm not spending too much time online. However, it was brought to my attention a situation concerning a group of CC creators who were tracking and doxxing their patrons.
So, I was thinking maybe I could write a post that might be helpful for some of you. As someone who has a strong social anxiety (one of the reasons I don't have a discord channel), I can only imagine how some of you might feel, not knowing which creator you can trust, or how to protect yourself from such thing? I do feel extremely ashamed of these people's behaviour. I can't imagine what's up in their head, how they excuse their behaviour? Doxxing people's private life over what? A bunch of 3d objects that mean nothing? Especially if you delete the Sims these objects will be absolutley useless.
So, as a creator I wanted to bring some light to supporters and followers in general.
When you sign up to a Creator on Patreon, whether you become a patron or you only choose to follow them. You are already placed in our Patrons section, so every creator who you support or follow, can see your e-mail address.
If you want to protect your privacy, it's best to use a different e-mail from your personal one, and to use a nickname instead of your real name. Also, do not use a selfie on your profile picture. It also worth nothing that even if you unsubscribed of the creator's patreon, they can still see your e-mail address, as an ex-patron.
Now, about CC tracking, to be frank, I don't know anything about it, so I'll just share what other people spoke related to it:
1. This anomaly is observed in creators who offer exclusive content or never share their content to public
2. These creators usually send you the sets over e-mail or private message
With that being said, check this nice tumblr post HERE if you want to learn how to check if any of your content has trackers.
One last thing, I will not state names, I think we all know the 'exclusive' creators in the community, but as a creator, who has been modding for over an year now. Guys, no exclusive content is worth your safety, or the safety of your computer. I did check some of these creator's content (at least the ones that were 'generously' left for the public), and no matter how beautiful the pictures look, it's insane to have a set of 40 items that is more than 1GB. There is no need of texture more than 1K, not to mention the polygons, some objects have insane amount of poly, which can actually damage your computer. If you want to check if your items have a high poly that mighte be demaging, you can do so, by opening the certain package file, then go under the mesh category and there should be stated the amount of poygons. For reference 1 tile object, should not exceed 1000K.
Please, be mindful what creators you support and what content you put in your game!
I hope this post was helpful at least to some of you!
Also, I just want to state this, I can guarantee that I never tracked or even considered tracking my CC, nor will I do anything with my patron’s email addresses.
I checked the calendar, and I saw that this week is the Catholic Easter, so Happy Easter everyone who celebrate today!
