Compendium of Curses #002

There are many creatures in this world; Each and every one of them is susceptible to curses to various degrees. Griffons, while possessing a natural magic that renders them less susceptible to ambient magic, are still very susceptible to directed magic, as this one is demonstrating. Unlike perhaps a dragon who in addition to resisting ambient magical fields ALSO possess incredible abilities to resist even directed magic, or the lowly human or even yinglet who possesses neither.

Someone--and certainly one wonders who would ever do such thing--has used a basic property of certain types of magic here to create a very simple and devious trap. You see, a "Sight-line Spell" is a spell designed to be channeled by sight, as in, to the target you are looking at. When such a spell is enchanted into an object or scroll with the mana needed to cast it, simply holding the object and observing the runes will activate the spell, and then you channel it by looking at your target.

What if that was etched onto a mirror surface... oh, well this experimenting enchanter (or enchantress) has just made something which, while it won't affect a seasoned spell caster with the mental acuity necessary to hold a spell at bay within their mind, will absolutely cause most anyone else who does not have that level of training to, upon seeing their own reflection, immediately cause that spell to be cast upon themselves.

Whoops!

And with such an awkward spell too, meant for crafting orbs and crystal balls out of inert rock, metal, or really anything... emphasis on the anything, as this one has produced a ball of griffon.

Whatever the case, it now has all the time in the world to get used to this new rather limited and geometric perspective on life~

Working through the backlog steadily, but wanted some additional content to put up here; had this sitting like 80% finished for ages and decided to yoink Grey for the subject and add it to the compendium of curses after seeing they wear a jacket... as I thought it would be kinda funny to be fleshily warped into an orb while your clothing just kinds slides right off you idk LOL

Anyway, this is definitely going to be a thing I do YCHs with in the future, putting up a permanent curse for people to be subjected to... and building, steadily, into a mini-setting with Tanith and her unscrupulous magical practices. Maybe you can help her *furnish* her new estate~?
