Our Video Game Resolutions for 2026 (and Big Hops!)
Added 2026-01-27 08:01:01 +0000 UTC
The Resties share their annual gaming resolutions. Will these goals help them make the most of their favorite hobby? Or will they lead them to ruin? We also revisit our resolutions from 2025 to see how they impacted our gaming decisions. In the back half, we chat about Big Hops, a new indie game that blends the past two decades of platformers.

Discussed in this episode:

Our previous resolutions from 2025:
Plante resolutions:
Don’t get lost in the AAA flood
Try more micro indies
Revisit Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Steam Deck
Frush resolutions:
Tweak less, play more
More ritualized gaming rules
Finish Binding of Isaac
Don’t mention not using guides

2026-01-31 17:49:45 +0000 UTCSo in a 2012 interview, Miyamoto apparently officially went on record stating the Koopalings were NOT Bowser's children & are just child laborers working for him, so in official Nintendo canon, Bowser Jr. is his only legitimate child...

2026-01-30 01:05:12 +0000 UTCI backed Big Hops on Kickstarter not knowing what it would be. It's quite interesting and very well made for a small team. I beat it and it's worth making it through.

2026-01-29 04:57:39 +0000 UTCDebates like these are great. In reference to the potential additional point Plante may have earned: Reading “the switch 2 will release after X” as the “the switch 2 will release in some market after X” distorts the fundamental meaning of the claim. The meaning of “release” in the former is a binary thing - ie released to the public somewhere - and I think it’s bad faith to interpret otherwise, as explicitly stated in the latter. Whereas the claim “Nintendo will advertise the durability of the joy cons” wouldn’t necessarily prohibit the advertising within certain markets on its face. Russ’s argument against the latter definition highlights the absurdity in that interpretation; it implies that the switch 2 has still never been released, and therefore the bet could go on indefinitely. Plante’s counter argument (since Canada didn’t market the durability, it didn’t happen) is compelling, but flawed. Russ isn’t saying that a thing must happen in ALL markets to have occurred. He’s saying it has to have happened in ONE market to have occurred. Therefore, this counter argument, in addition to refuting Plante’s, strengthens his own claim. This was a fun one.

2026-01-28 16:25:19 +0000 UTCSo if you add it up 46% of us thought Chris was right and 80% thought Russ was right. Not such a close race after all.
