I'm likely in the minority, but I'm not a fan of the brackets. Would much rather have industry retrospectives or game introspectives by Russ and Plante.

Intro cinematics stopped being a real thing with the death of arcades and seventh generation so they deserve to be given a retrospective.

Nah but for real, this one has the most interesting takes on a broad gaming topic that most people can probably relate to, and because its consoles and not the endless supply of video games one can pull examples from, theres less friction for listeners. It also gets a little rowdy, but not "you have to eat the whole pumpkin" rowdy (not letting you guys live it down). Its also why I NEED the handheld brackets

I didn’t own any of them except the PS3 and XBox One, so it was a lot of “oh, okay”. I mean. I know Dreamcast da best, but I’ve never even seen one, haha

2024-12-11 02:42:48 +0000 UTCThis may be my only chance to share this story in a relevant context, so here goes: I used to go to Japan regularly as a kid alongside my parents, who went there for work. So I naturally developed an affinity for the country, and took up Japanese classes in high school. One of the other students learned of my upcoming trip to the homeland of Sega, and asked if he could give me money to bring him back a Dreamcast – which at the time was only available over there. Now this was not a case of doing a favor for a dear friend. I had very little contact with that classmate before or after the exchange, and in fact can not even remember his name today. Yet I was so desperate for the esteem of my peers that I agreed, and brought back the console – which I then dutifully handed over. To this day I still regret that at no point did I even consider keeping the prize all for myself. If I had, I'm sure my life would have turned quite different. It's possible my passion for video games would have blossomed into something more than a hobby, and who knows – maybe in that parallel timeline the Besties have a fifth member (That's me, I'm the fifth member. Also just FYI in that timeline Ron Funches dies heroically while saving the president so the spot is free).
