After the 0.4.x update made old saves invalid, we heard everyone's feedback about wanting to keep saves between versions, especially in a game with branching paths. Therefore, one of the things we've been working on for the next version of KoD is to finish every change that could kill saves in the future. We can't guarantee 100% compatibility in versions 0.6.0 and beyond, but we hope to make the overall experience as smooth as possible.
That means working on a wide variety of systems, however. One example is seen in the screenshot above: the equipment and inventory system.
Lots of players have requested more information about item stats, a better inventory, and an easier way to check clothing. We could have put in quick fixes for these, but decided to do one step better: KoD now has a proper system managing all of this information. When you see the system in action, you'll see how it's much easier to use, not to mention less boring visually.
This is only one of the systems we've been working on in the background. Some are boring, like changing the item system so that future additions will be more efficient. But others will result in visible changes you'll appreciate, not to mention a completely new system that will show you one of the main consequences we've been planning for all the decisions you've been making.
Though we'll tweak and improve in the future, likely adding some more visual polish to some of the systems, we intend for the basics to be established for all future versions.
Nobody plays a game for the support systems, though, so we've also been working on the next major installment of content. We want KoD 0.5.0 to be both a complete overhaul and a full chapter of the story. Please look forward to it!
