Civil War
Added 2024-06-01 15:23:52 +0000 UTCHi guys, another attempt at an almost podcast. This time discussing Civil War. A film I have quite a lot to say about. Be prepared to hear some pretty major criticism sent its way but also please know I am very grateful this movie exists.
There's a bit of a quick channel update for the first seven minutes - to recap that quickly:

As with the previous attempt please keep in mind this is my knee jerk reaction after seeing the film once. It's not researched, I might get stuff wrong, I might call Jessie 'Cassie' and there's probably parts I should have edited out but I want to force myself into doing this in a way where I can get you guys reasonably thoughtful content without spending months on it. While I may not quite have achieved that here I still think it's a lot better than my previous attempt.

For me, as an American watching this, I thought that the mundanity/numbness/sort of disappointing blasé attitude of the film was a tertiary analytic perspective. “We” have barely reacted to even the recent violence enacting towards our former president. I thought the film effectively communicated a collective moral exhaustion here that may not be relevant beyond our borders. I was most disappointed with the death of Lee — it struck me as tying up too nearly the concept of passing the torch. Certainly the “hollowness” you mention is present, especially in comparison to other more emotional war stories. The lack of exposition/explanation of “how we got here” was also disappointing though I can totally understand wanting to skirt around that to make the film more “timeless” in a sense. So glad I found your work! Looking forward to more reviews, in whatever format.

Would watch again, but I hope this is not where we’re headed. (Would love to say more but don’t want to spoil!)

2024-06-02 05:15:30 +0000 UTCThe uncensored Hereditary is going down easy. One question, the highest res on the YT video is 1080 premium, I had no idea there was a 4k version. So I don't think anyone will see a difference in that respect.
