Channel Update #35 (May)

Hello monthly update time i.e. new video and bad news time. I’ll break things into different topics.

1. The second channel was deleted out of the blue (there’s a little more info in a recent youtube community post if you want to check). I’m still not sure why this happened. The first appeal was quickly rejected but I’m still hoping I can get something done about it. I’ll go through the manual contacting support process and if they can’t help I’ll ask them to pass me on, and if I still can’t get anything done then I’ll just make a new channel and reupload the videos there. It’s confusing and disappointing if the channel isn’t reinstated, but it isn’t actually a big loss. I’m not sure if the videos even had monetization turned on but if they did I had ads set to minimal and wasn’t making any money really, I didn’t have many plans for future videos, and most of the subs were probably just people from the main channel anyway. It is a very strange thing for youtube to do though. There’s meant to be a process of strikes for breaking guidelines, were warnings are given in advance, and even then multiple strikes usually leads to a channel losing monetization, not being deleted. Still we’ll just have to see what happens, and I’ll make a youtube community post when I know more.

2. New video. I combined all the history videos into one, mostly because the big advantage of separating them was to allow me to be ahead of video production but if they weren’t going to perform well individually being ahead of things isn’t too helpful. So hopefully the combined video performs a bit better but even if it doesn’t I can at least move on to other things. I do like the combined video. Having all parts together allows it to live up to its title of an ‘entire’ history better. That said, the editing was unbelievably monotonous and draining (and it took far longer than I expected). It’s funny, writing all parts consecutively worked really well but editing that way was awful and I truly didn’t expect how much I would hate it. Usually I like editing. Regardless, it’s finished now, so I’ll just have to make sure I avoid doing so much editing in one go ever again. At least now I know.

3. The Patreon has been revamped a bit but I don’t think anything should change for current Patrons (do let me know if you have any problems though). I’ve basically deleted the 3 and 9 dollar tier. 6 dollar is still name in credits, and anything else is for all patrons. If anyone wants to change their pledge amount feel free. 9 dollar people can drop to 6 and still be the top tier, and anyone can go lower and still get everything else. So if you want to change your pledge amount go ahead, no explanation is needed for lowering your amount, now or in the future. It’s all good.

I’ve also organized the unlisted videos into a playlist which might get expanded in the future, and I’ll probably repost it a few times in future updates so patrons are aware it exists.

4. I have no idea what the next video will be. After so much work on the editing for the history video, my main plan now is to try to relax for a week and then after that maybe work on whatever seems like it would be fun. So June’s video is a mystery, even to me. After June however I plan to cover Baldur’s Gate 1, 2 and 3, and then Starfield. Baldur’s Gate 3 and Starfield might get swapped in order but otherwise those videos should be pretty set in stone.

I did really want to make a Final Fantasy video. In fact, I’ve always wanted to make a big Final Fantasy video ever since the channel began, but it’s always posed a problem in the time it would take and how best to approach it. Anyway I was thinking of maybe doing a 2 hour history of and analysis type video (like the MMO one) that could come out before FF16 (I don’t have a PS5 so doing it before was important). Still in the end I don’t have time so make the video before FF16 comes out so I’ll just come back to the idea in the future. Maybe at the PC release of FF16 as that’s when I’ll end up playing that game anyway so that might be a good time.
