Never underestimate the power of future generations' middle-brained to dredge up pulp garbage and strip for stylistic scrap, while valorizing it for it's "artistry" because to not do so would diminish the esteem surrounding their authorship.

”Or the reality that’s coming for all of us”😂

Pia Dykert

The great MDW returns!

Elizabeth

Bret should see Twisters. It was good, not great but fun and entertaining.

Sodaheiress

Great episode

Sodaheiress

Agree with Bret about no drinks before a movie, I had a Hendricks Martini before I saw a movie last weekend and dozed through half of it.

Sodaheiress

Every time I eat popcorn at the movies now I think of BEE and get self conscious about the noise. Lol.

Sodaheiress

A few episodes back “I’ve only ever done coke and alcohol” . This episode “It was only my first or second time, no, it was definitely my third time, third or fourth. I missed a wedding once because I was so hungover from heroin” 😂

Sodaheiress

17 minutes in, and they haven’t stopped talking about their drug use, boring. Hoping for the best for the rest.

Jim Weaver

Disappeared into the pleasure of this chat.

That's a bit much innit?

Sicario is amazing!! Your enthusiasm for Furiosa makes me want to revisit it. And I'll def check out Prisoners. 🤠

Trezerand

You are scientifically incorrect for not calling "V" an artist, and that literally destroys your pseudo intellectual "analysis" and the fact that you think you have the right to say anything is a crime against humanity...his film was a mood piece that created a world, and there is a certain detachment & ambiguity to his style, which is far above your head, because you fail to even grasp the basic fundamentals of art...you call it merely technical because you are retarded...now you're the kind of pathetic thing that says "it's all subjective, jesus christ, you have a problem with someone who disagrees with you, shows you little you know 😭😭😭" which proves that you are even more mentally deficient than you show yourself to be in this paragraph that your special ed teacher totally didn't write...it's amazing how you're even able to write sentences 😂😂😂...ah well, at least you have the logic of a 6 year old, but even most of them are smarter than you 😂😂😂

Neil G.

That's fair, man! Between all the glowing reviews on the Internet and people I've spoken to, I assumed most DUNE folks were largely pleased, so your take is interesting...I have no "passion" for the lore myself, so I can enjoy the films for what they are-technical marvels...my favorite V films are SICARIO/PRISONERS, and I'm the kinda guy who loves digging in the "trash", so I'm all about discovering '70s/'80s stuff...I was just imagining a younger me discovering FURIOSA in 30 years...it would blow my fuckin' mind the way STREETWALKIN'(85)/AMITYVILLE HORROR II(82) just did for me this week!

Johnny Blade

For sure. Definitely want to hear some BEE 🗣️ on Megalopolis 👂👂

Sam Leuenberger

I disagree on two points. (1) History will not remember Furiosa. It was a one-off oddity and won't be remembered 2 years from now. (2) I am a lifelong Dune fan, and V's version has no allure for me. Lynch's version has too many flaws to count, but it did get a couple things right that are wholly lacking in V's: artistic vision (versus a technician's vision) and the importance of the consciousness-altering qualities of the spice. And though I think he earnestly tried to understand what true religious believers are like, V clearly doesn't, and it shows in the cartoonish way the Fremen are depicted. It's a formulaic, technical wonder without a soul.

Trezerand

History will be kind to FURIOSA, the allure of the DUNE films is only a mystery to UNDUNE people, and BIKERIDERS is a movie that suffers in the manner that it isn't what the viewer may have WANTED or EXPECTED, but the film is EXACTLY what Jeff Nichols set out to create. It's a bit misunderstood, I believe...also, the chick in the red dress scene was explained pretty clear in the film...and if SCORSESE directed it, it'd end up a bit of a violent mess like GANGS OF NEW YORK probably. I enjoyed this conversation very much, reminded me why I collect aluminum cans for redemption dollars in order to afford it...but MOST importantly, Bret's pronunciation of "COPPOLA" was beautiful, 10/10.

Johnny Blade

Oh come on, Furiousa was so boring. Dune 2 was far better. Btw, Dune Messiah is the shortest book in the series by some distance - it has less than 300 pages.

Gnome

Fantastic episode - so nice hearing two old friends talk about their favourite cinemas, movies and......drugs! Looking forward to part 2!

Bazayer

I did not expect this...

Sértő-Radics Sarolta

These last two guests have been some of the best in quite some time. More pods with a free form dialogue like this one.

Charlie C

this dude swears he’s got all the answers of a chill movie experience — like we get it, man.

Nick Not Nolte

Great show, as always! Popcorn is a must at movies. That’s part of it. I would say the movies without popcorn is akin to life without sex—still good, but a big part of the thrill missing. Don’t be a popcorn eunuch. On the other hand I hate nachos or gross smelly things. Or when people rattle that bag with candy….Over and Over. So I feel you about the noise I guess, but popcorn has an earnest low frequency sound.

Stephen Curry

9.5 minutes into this episode and I am already jazzed by the morbid topic of fear of death. Don DeLillo, anyone?

Joe Stallone

Ricky Stanicky is by far the”the Green Book Guy” Peter Farrelly . It’s also pretty weak , but has a few laughs. Farrelly Brothers are always hit & miss, with age, mostly miss. Hall Pass was the last hit for me.

Matthew Moss

Nope. Except for you. You don’t do that. But, you’re a weirdo.

M. Nero Nava

Is there any other feeling caused by friends?

Kristeen

😎

R. M.

Haha, different matthew wilder (or maybe that was your joke)

Trezerand

Vintage BEE. Keen to hear his/their thoughts on The Substance and Megalopolis in due course.

Paul Richardson

2024 has been a wonderful year of movies. Maybe the best of the 2020s.

Richard Raymond

I love “Break My Stride” Does he still have the get up from the video? 😭🤷‍♂️😎

R. M.

Nvm the drug talk is even better

Harold B

Hope Bret gives his take on the Ryan Murphy Menéndez project and the controversy around it

Harold B

*free tip! (If you have the time ; ) Listen in a bit slower pace of 0.75 x from 7 minutes on untill you fall laughing from your chair

Twan Van Geel

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

Bret: I was only a coke guy. (Goes on to describe snorting heroin and passing out on a plane)

David Lowe

I couldn’t agree more with BEE’s take on Dune 2. I felt completely alienated by my friends who loved that movie. Also, BEE should come out to the New Bev or Vista. It’s one of those great things about living here in LA. This was a fun chat.
