I only worked on set for the doctor’s office location. I didn’t see any call sheets or casting stuff if I wasn’t needed. It was a great experience though

M. Nero Nava

Did I hear sandra bernhard say she was in blue jasmine, did a few scenes, but it was decided she wasn't right for the role? I could have the wrong Allen film though ...

K.D.F.

Rich 'n' miserable

slimshadyfan666

Friedkin's "RAMPAGE" is my kinda fuckin' trash, I think quite a few folks here including Bret would/could get some enjoyment out of it-from IMDB-"Liberal district attorney (MICHAEL BIEHN) decides to seek the death penalty for a man who slaughtered a family at Christmastime, then drank their blood." If that doesn't sell it for you, I dunno man!!!

Johnny Blade

Short and sweet.

Erick

Bret won’t even go to Silver Lake to see a movie.

N.M. Janice.

Alec Baldwin would make a great guest.

Sodaheiress

"Obsession almost never results in happiness." What a great line.

Megan Abbott

They played earlier this year at the Forum for their "Farewell Tour" and sounds like he didnt go to that..

Alexander Quattlander

Borg vs McEnroe was a great tennis movie btw with Shia Lebouf.

Alexander Quattlander

I having been listening to Blur as well. Barbaric feels like a BEE song.

Mary Walker

Bret will you be going to see The Eagles at the Vegas sphere?

Rowan Oliver

dont even engage with him man, guy is whacked out

Collin Myers

match point is one of woodys best! no doubt. i have gone back and knocked through a lot of his more recent movies--even found i enjoyed a rainy day in new york even though im not a huge chalamet fan

Collin Myers

Claustrophobic and people shouting over each other? The parallel is obvious as far as the movie, it’s ok. Wildly overrated, but ok

Adam Lehrer

Uncut Gems was one of the best movies of that decade. Pure fucking id. Sandler didn't have any time for bullshit self reflection and that's all they do on the bear.

Stephen

Great to hear Brett reviewing culture artefacts again. It’s been awhile. He has a real ability when talking to be both casual and insightful.

Dan

For most of human history, there have been only a few great works of art made every decade, if even that. We just expect everything to be amazing because the world moves so quickly now.

Someone Else

Great episode but no Capote vs The Swans?

Someone Else

What are you carrying on about, Neil?

M. Nero Nava

yep, an absolutely pathetic, shallow, implausible take on the upper class...by the rules of science...but The Bear sucks? I haven't seen it, but you are most likely wrong

Neil G.

Yeah, it’s just too self conscious but not arty or interesting enough to make me buy in. Also, these working class fetish shows are just silly. Match Point is top 5 Allen for me. I love that faux Euro period. Vicky Cristina was great and fun, and I liked Cassandra’s Dream (didn’t love), of course Midnight In Paris. But, I even liked the later non euro stuff—Irrational Man. I was lucky to fall into a two day gig on Blue Jasmine (an actress I was working for had a part in the film, it was meant to be bigger but it became a one scene gag). Anyway, I got to work on the super small set, it was very cool, super productive, easy going, and Woody Allen was super pleasant and patient with the crew. He would give his direction and notes up close to the actors, and he was friendly to every person on set.

M. Nero Nava

Love Match Point. Top 10 Allen for me. I can’t bring myself to watch The Bear. I don’t know what it is. I have heard all the hype, and it’s been recommended to me, but something about it just turns me off.

N.M. Janice.

Even BEE describing and reviewing The Bear can not coax me into trying that posturing snore fest again. I also rewatched Match Point. That film is one of the best works of art about social climbing. Fun ep! I’m on board with most of his picks! I love these eps

M. Nero Nava

I just never thought the show was good at all. It’s like Uncut Gems but about chefs, aka the most insufferable people on the planet with the most inflated egos on the planet

Adam Lehrer

I feel like I can boil down why S3 was the weakest of the series so far. The Fak brothers got way too much screen time and most of their attempts at comedy fell flat and wasn't funny. Which is ironic that it is included in award shows as a comedy. S2 focusing on Cousin worked much better dramatically. And I guess he is just a much more interesting actor.

Charlie C

Bret, Adam, - you gotta get Moon Unit Zappa on the podcast. Her new autobiography is phenomenal and she and Bret can reminisce about the glory days of L.A. Two-parter! Please!

C. James

No, and I agree.

N.M. Janice.

Moments like BEE’s review of Challengers is what elevates the podcast to another level. Loved that movie. Being in the theater on opening night and hearing the audience’s *audible* reaction to the twist/callback at the end (Zweig signaling, ball-to-racket, that he slept with Zendaya) is among my favorite moviegoing experiences in years.

Sam Leuenberger

Brets malaise sort of speaks to the world... has it ever felt so deadened and meaningless culturally?

Chris De Burgha

Had to drop it during season 1

Chris De Burgha

Bret on the weight point it really is calories in caloties out. Once you get that down you don't have to worry about too much else. Going for walks would help a lot too

Chris De Burgha

I'm a little confused by how dismissive Bret was about Shogun... but I also kind of get it. This adaptation is extremely conventional, and it "streamlines" the novel's subtleties into something that, in many ways, is less impactful than the 1980 adaptation. So far, it's more impressive on a second watch, but I still feel it's been so highly rated because it's surrounded by dreadful television. The announcement of a second season fills me with dread. Hopefully, they will adapt one of the later books instead of dicing up the first one some more. Malena is quite good. It's at least worth a watch.

Louis

So true. I worked in the industry for many years, it is fairly realistic, but not quite that dramatic. Season 3 sucked.

Sodaheiress

I like THE BEAR. But I had a lot of problems with Season 3. Artsy for the narcissistic artist's sake yet the whole season left me wanting more and caused me to lose interest in the character's personal lives minus the exceptional Sugar who had the best episode with Jamie Lee Curtis

MisterBlasty

It’s so saccharine and predictable.

Chris N

the way Guadagnino & Marco Costa uses the Reznor & Ross score in Challengers really is the hidden gem of that movie. happy to hear BEE catch & appreciate it too

Normaling

Tornatores Malena : Monica Bellucci in her prime :)

Tim Seibel

Yes!!! Been waiting for this

Harold B

The bear makes me wanna throw up, just horrid narcissistic losers screaming at each other with absolutely no plot movement

Adam Lehrer

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

Well said

Andrew Harty

Bret is very good at plot summary and analysis. His descriptions of Baby Reindeer and The Bear are excellent. It's not easy to do. His summaries are often better than the shows themselves.

Steve

Morricone documentary is nicely done.
