Politics is understood as a surface veneer online, with very little room for nuanced comprehension and context. The future is a troubling place to “keep up with” to use the term.

Samer Akl

I watched the Piers Morgan interview with Kevin Spacey. It was hard to watch, so tragic how his career has been ruined by cancel culture. You really see what a genuine man he is. Definitely worth watching.

Sodaheiress

Yeah it will be called “Isolation Chamber” and will be published 15 years from now.

Andrew

Picture of robot please

BRC

They still use the old school photo of Bret taken with a phone camera that used flash and isn’t even a square for the main podcast image. You can’t expect that much 😅

Dan Citriniti

Anyone know the precise edition of the Bible that Bret mentions? I’m interested in checking that out.

Dan Citriniti

A duet with cranky old man Paul Schrader would be one for the ages

Matteo Persivale

Glad The Delivery Man was mentioned, truly excellent book.

Matteo Persivale

No, they are terrorists by their own accord...but this level of irrational, pseudo intellectual horseshit, then telling me to keep up (which is retarded hypocrisy of the highest order) merely justifies all of Netanyahu's actions...try to keep up with logic and reality before you talk, let alone tell other people to keep up with you, scientifically, have none

So interesting that Nicholas Delbanco came up and that Bret knows him well. He was one of two judges, along with poet Robert Pinsky, who picked one of my stories as a winner for a major literary prize in Jewish fiction. His work is so fluid, so personal, especially on the subjects of exile and aging. Huge cheers for Mr. Delbanco!

Steven Volynets

Netanyahu was propping up Hamas, try to keep up

Sebastian ospina

Bret Grindr is still free

Scott B

Happy Birthday BEE!

Sodaheiress

Bret didn’t take my bait about improving his French. Thanks for asking my question, Adam!

Keith campbell

Adam's a brilliant foil for Brett.

Steven Hamilton

Love Bret and the podcast. I felt this episode was let down by the questions asked this week. Let’s hope we get more upcoming project details, including more on the Shards TV series now that it has a director!

Darren

Honestly, I find Bret’s melancholy and old man crank oddly soothing and refreshing. In a culture where everyone is trying so hard to be likable, agreeable and youthful, I love that Bret doesn’t give a fuck.

N.M. Janice.

wow, I thought Hamas was the problem 😂😂😂

Neil G.

Same

N.M. Janice.

Fuck The Israeli government!May they burn 🔥 in hell !

Knokkel knokkel

Yeah being isolated, drinking every night, and not socialising or getting out and about would give anyone anxiety attacks.

Chris De Burgha

I like it too. It's nice how open and vulnerable he is. I feel he's in a transition stage. Could see him being much happier and more social in a couple years. Its stupid to comment on another person's relationship, but one can't help but feel he'd be able to live much freer if certain ties are finally cut.. altho again who knows

Chris De Burgha

15 minutes in and you've basically described my whole life. And I'm happy with that.

Claude Henry Smoot

Here to say I love this pod!

Scott Kleckner

Bret. Delete fucking Tik Tok. Make a gin and tonic. Watch either Ricky-Oh: The Story of Ricky (1991) English dub or Lady Terminator (1989). You’ll feel right as rain.

David Willis

Brett solo episodes with Adam are now my favourites. I race to listen to them over the guest ones now. Brett and Adam have really great chemistry and I could listen to Brett talk about anything. He has that gift for casual yet insightful conversation that is rare

Dan

I’m really enjoying Bret’s old man phase

Lionel

Also, Wes Bentley working with Ryan Murphy and doing 3 seasons of American Horror Story only added fuel to the potential gay bonfire.

John Q. Thompson

The running man.

John Q. Thompson

I mean how could that robot NOT cheer Bret up, right? It's like the premise to an 80's comedy.

John Q. Thompson

I just happened to buy Meditations today before listening to this podcast, along with Notes from the Underground (so I'm sure they'll cancel each other out)

David Morgan-Brown

25 minutes in and it already feels like a drag. Podcast is becoming less and less interesting. Some quality guests would do wonders

Dominic Schmiedl

Alcohol hangovers feed the morning dread like crazy too. Cats help get rid of it...

Sértő-Radics Sarolta

Isolation, panic attacks and dinner with Diddy….. is Bret on one of Diddy’s freak off tapes ?

Lionel

i so want brett's neurotic bitching to segue into a betterhelp ad read

sean in hawaii

"emergency klonopin" ftw

Brian Aldrich

Bret read the bible? Now I've heard everything.

Ben

Is BEE suicidal?

Happyhead

The Coronas to me seemed like a tip off that Bret not only edited the book but also totally rewrote it himself. There seemed to be other Easter eggs too, but maybe that was just the author’s intention given the nepotism/relationship to tease that possibility. I liked it too BTW but I think they should have killed that guy in the end. (Like they would have in the movies.)

Patrick

There’s a tea made by Sultan called “Good Night” that knocks me out.

Jonathan Davis

….great episode…I must have that robot 🤖

PETER GREER

Great show as always! I saw a good movie, on Netflix right now, from 2018 called Clovehitch. This pertains to the serial killer discussion since it’s a fictionalization of the BTK killer. A bit depressing, but very well paced and plotted and acted. There were a lot of neat twists I didn’t see coming. This one’s about a cishet killer this time. We have diversity in serial killers!

Stephen Curry

Seconded!

N.M. Janice.

Glad Bret Easton Ellis is urinating again!

Quote of the year: "The internet might be an instant karma machine." --Ashley

slimshadyfan666

It’s only been three months since Todd was sent away. I’m giving Bret until the end of the year and I don’t expect him to lose the dread until after the holidays. I think this time next year he will be in a completely different headspace, knowing… That he needs to move on from todd.

Nikki Ferrari

Missed opportunity in making the episode art a picture of said robot.

Justin

I also highly recommend The Delivery Man by Joe McGinniss Jr, as well as his second book Carousel Court.

D Michael Hardy

Does Adam have his own podcast? I'd love to listen if so. Apologies if I'm late to the game on this.

Kyler Bingham

i wish this was video so i could see the robot

Shaianne

Are you still running ?

Knokkel knokkel

Didn’t he just “gift” us one pretty recently? Like a few years ago…🙄

Ashley

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

Anxiety actually isn’t a feeling: it’s a defense against feeling. Perhaps this angst will gift us with a novel.

Pp358

Before there was a self-help industry, there was literature. I’m with Bret on that one. Check out James Hillman’s Healing Fiction essays for some critical insights on the psychology and self-help industries.

Brian James

Adam is a natural anti-depressant. Keep him around.

Brian James

John Mulaney's "Everybody's In LA" is worth seeing for the Waingro stand-up alone. Yes, the actor from "Heat" who plays Waingro, comes out in character to do a stand-up set as Waingro. It's in the Bill Hader episode if you don't wanna watch every episode to find it. John Carpenter is in an episode too which is cool.

John Q. Thompson

Why is there a robot in the guest chair? 😂

Patrick

After seeing that two-part doc on Kevin Spacey I re-visited "American Beauty." I really loved "House of Cards" and I've never seen the final season since Spacey's not in it, but I'm glad some actors are voicing support for him and I hope he does get a comeback somehow, someway. Paul Schrader stated not too long ago that he had a project that would be perfect for Spacey, but couldn't make it happen obviously. Anyway, watching "American Beauty" put Wes Bentley back in my mind. I've always assumed he was gay, he has a gay aura to him in my eyes, but apparently he's been married twice and has kids. This is a long winded way of saying that I've started revisiting "Yellowstone" and have been enjoying it quite a bit. Also because Bret has been praising "Where Eagles Dare" the last two weeks I've picked that up on blu-ray to watch soon.

John Q. Thompson

The robot bit really got me laughing.

John Q. Thompson

Oh man, hope BEE is OK. Morning dread can be made worse by a natural cortisol surge. 'Jump out of bed' and exercise to burn it off as soon as possible. Be wary of sedatives and their inevitable hang over. A pet really could be a good idea, lest fear be a man's best friend. Keep laughing with Adam. All else fails, a great podcast like this one is priceless.
