Albini became an embarrassing progressive parody... pro masks, pro vax... anti-vaxxers should be punched in the face type of guy. Believed in the trans lie that trans women ARE women. Would get into constant twitter fights with old fans questioning his views. He seemed completely unbearable the last few years. Some opined that he was trying to make amends for his edgelord past. But hey, I should've stuck to the John Lydon ethos of not speaking ill of the dead. But I really found Albini to be odious.

AC23

Albini was such an interesting nut job lol.

Brandon Cook

Albini was a covidian who revered the clot shot. Ironic for an indie music guy. Clot shots do what clot shots do….

Sodaheiress

Bret definitely said when he was on How Long Gone as Chris described the new Sally Rooney book “well I just jizzed”

Nikki Ferrari

What are your favorite cities? Why?

Andrea Rivera

LOL did they just barely learn the very corrupt government is and has been corrupt? grow tf up 😂😂😂

Nick Not Nolte

Well, take Lou's first 6 albums and Iggy's first 6. It's purely a matter of preference. Iggy was one of Bowie's early heroes. Lou was ultimately more 'literary' but Iggy didn't need to be. Intellectually, they are equals. I reckon 😉 😏 😄

JEREMY ROBERTS

You are not alone.

Pp358

How so ?

Lionel

I knew Dune 2 wouldn’t be Bret’s thing from his reaction to the first film… I dunno for me it just hit on aesthetics and spectacle which few other big name directors can produce these days. Listened to a bit of The Amps and definitely not my thing but The Breeders Pod album Adam recommended sounded cool after the first couple of tracks. Will be checking out the rest of it and their other stuff. Good podcast as always lads!

David Willis

In the span of forty-plus years we've come from Bret spotting Robert Mallory at The Shining to him dealing with hulking masses with chicken tenders at Challengers and presumptuous backpackers with lost intentions at Civil War.

Benjamin Wayne

It’s because people keep asking the same shit!

Thomas Matich

Adam has impeccable music taste. The Amps’ Pacer & The Breeders’ Pod albums are such an under-appreciated masterpieces.

Normaling

It would be a shame to waste a long form Bret interview on JR. Get him on Red Scare.

Brian James

THE MAN WHO WASN"T THERE is a great B & W neo-noir from the Coen brothers with Billy Bob Thorton, Frances McDormand, James Gandolfini that is a bit under the radar.

R. M.

Also, Inside Llewyn Davis is a masterpiece.

N.M. Janice.

Huge fan of Miller's Crossing, def deserves a re-watch Also, Bret skipped Coen Bros. HAIL CEASAR in their filmography. Perhaps the best critique of the Hollywood system ever filmed, not to mention Capitalism.

Edi Panta

I did Proust over like 7-8 months and a second time over 4 months. I usually did like 50 pages a day that first time with one break for a month to read a few other things. I also want to do Caro Lbj…

Marcelo

Iggy is every bit the artist and innovator that Lou is.

JEREMY ROBERTS

Just checked out the trailer for Hundreds of Beavers, not particularly intrigued. But then I was almost certain it was going to be a documentary about porno screen tests…

Jim Weaver

I'm so glad I re-subbed after taking a podcast break. Bret going off about the zombies and chicken tenders has given me life.

Senseless

“Hulking mass” was a vivid description

Alex Bielovich

That cover is the greatest thing I've ever seen.

Claude Henry Smoot

Bret needs to take his Paul Schrader impersonation on the road. Can we get Joe Rogan to interview Bret as Paul Schrader?

Keith V Whalen

The layout of the cover for this episode is hella satisfying

Alex Bielovich

Great episode. BEE's kryptonite=chicken tenders 😂 I agree with Bret, I don't want to have to smell some randos trans fat laden movie theater-grade tenders while I'm trying to lose myself in the cinematic experience. I miss the old days where the closest item to real food at theaters were those disgusting rotisserie hot dogs with the black specs in them (probably hoof or butthole). The exact same thing happens to me when I go to the theater, no matter where I sit: loud, annoying, disgusting people post up right next to me and cough, scratch, fidget, kick, and emit odors. Fuck reserve seating, IMAX needs to offer the BOY IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE experience. It's unfortunate, the theater in the town I live closed last year and I haven't been to a theater in over a year as nothing has compelled me to make the drive to Portland. I am planning to see MEGALOPOLIS in theaters, hopefully IMAX. Adam "MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO'D you..."

R. M.

Bret seems unaware that the Sunset 5 exists right near him

Richard Raymond

I recently realized that what was considered mid budget in the 80s and 90s (30-50 million) would be closer to 100 million now when you factor in inflation. The problem isn't big budgets so much as a lack of people going to the movies to support them. It saddens me to no end that our culture has decided to allow the greatest art form to die on the vine.

Richard Raymond

How many have a list of movies but devolve to Vanderpump Rules ? I for one have succumbed ? Perhaps it’s just a need to completely tune out into the void ?

David Hardin

You’ll miss him when he’s gone

David Hardin

Yes! I find BEE’s tangents just as entertaining as his movie/book commentary. Lamenting spending $24.95 for Dune, wondering why the kid with the backpack sat next to him…

Brian Kenna

Not that Travis, I will be watching Hundreds of 🦫 🦫 🦫 🦫 🦫 🦫 🦫

T Frick

Bret’s bang on about Dune: Part 2

Paul Richardson

Also “the end of publishing” “advice for a screenwriter 🥺”

maddie

I’m not paying $20 so can the platinum friends ask better questions please ….. the monologues on the end of cinema are becoming so redundant

maddie

Also, props to BEE for his Schrader impression.

M. Nero Nava

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

Thanks Adam for asking Bret my question…👏🏻🤘🏻👍🏻👌🏻💪🏻

PETER GREER

That’s why I never leave my apartment…..

PETER GREER

……hilarious…..chicken tenders….huge coke ….massive popcorn 🍿…😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂I’m dying

PETER GREER

Magic Mountain is well worth it. Felt that way about Lolita but glad I stuck with it. Both cast a spell. And thank you for The Amps tip!

Thomas Edwards

Also Albini may have been a pedo. Which I did not know til after he died.

John Q. Thompson

I gotta go read that Paul Schrader Variety interview now. He's hilarious. "Affliction" and "Touch" just got blu-ray releases recently so I picked them up and they're great, especially "Affliction." Really hope Bret can get him back on here to promote "Oh, Canada."

John Q. Thompson

I think he is reading the comments. Apologizing for saying “I’m old”

Keith campbell

the perfect thing to listen to on a charter flight to Saudi Arabia

Zach

Just started, and I’ve laughed 4 times, and said “mm” a couple times. #aftermyrun
