You should always be loved a little more than you love them

Dana Wallace

In 'irreversible' isnt the worst part that they kill the wrong guy at the end?

Dan Smith

Why do you seem to ALWAYS toss in this same “comment”??

J Hay

re staying in a relationship where they love you more, I disagree with Adam that women don't want that. The older we get we do, we don't want to wade into the cesspool of dating, which we hear about from our single mom friends. Maybe not when we're dating in our 20s, but in our 40s, totally don't mind.

Bret destroys anything French. They must have studied languages over at Buckley, right? I can assure you that Bret did not take French.

BUtterfield8

Thanks for the tip. People here seemed to hate the podcast, but I was fine with it and immediately ordered the book. What’s wrong with mixing it up a little? The complaining about Young Kim was awful. My lord, that picture in the NYTimes of the two of them in 2015. Nobody ages better than Richard Hell. Must be all the sex and the 5th floor walk up.

BUtterfield8

Adams incel energy is deep in this episode

Nikki Ferrari

Unfortunately the relapse has been happening for a while. Hopefully Bret can heal channeling this experience into his creative work. As he always does. Wish him and Todd well. Sincerely.❤️

Sértő-Radics Sarolta

Enjoyed article in NYT about previous BEE guest, Young Kim. Her book has reached “cult status”.

Mary Walker

My prayers are with Todd and with you Bret

E

Did Bret really call irreversible arousing? That’s a pretty dark take :/

Harold B

If this episode was taped on the day before Valentines, as Adam states, then was it taped before or after Todd was arrested for burglary that same day? I’m assuming before since Bret sounds rather chipper for a dude whose partner is in jail

Happyhead

The restaurants told you that? Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Stephen

Get well soon. Kind of odd that Ellis announces a movie called relapse and then Todd actually relapses.

Stephen

These episodes are great

Adam Marzec

Man, I feel for both of them

Kerry

Wow. Sorry to read this. Wish them both the best.

Allan Sherwood

I’m with caller Stephen on Aerosmith’s What it Takes, one of my favorite songs of all time.

Exactly!

Ashley

that sounded silly when I heard it. Like almost every restaurant anywhere including chain restaurants will have a pretty girl who seats customers and a few waitresses who at least happen to be cute, and somehow many couples manage to eat dinner there without having issues

Alex Waller

I think the first 3 seasons of the show are far, far superior to the movie. The show even has better cinematography/production value that sustains over 12 episode seasons. I think it is definitely worth any fan of the movie's time to check it out.

Alex Waller

I’ve worked in service industry for 8 years in LA both restaurants said they hired based on looks and women were preferable…so not sure how accurate that is on not hiring attractive women (but I also wasn’t working in super “high end” places)

Ashley

I just can’t imagine the movie being topped

Ashley

I think so, I really enjoy Jon Hamm and what he's doing here is great. Give the first two episodes a try and if you like it keep going if not, you've only lost about 2 hours of your time. Plus you'll get to see Hamm's nipple rings.

John Q. Thompson

And barely just mastered it…he still drops a COP-pola now and again 😂

Ashley

Is Fargo worth watching?

Ashley

He just mastered pronouncing Coppola give him a break

Charlie C

Will somebody please communicate to Bret that the é of Gaspar Noé isn't silent? Hint: it's pronounced like the é in Beyoncé. Hence the accent mark being there in the first place.

Bobby Bermudez

Used to be one of my favorites. I wonder how it aged. I was 100% convinced the schoolyard dog statue vandalization was a huge inspiration for a similar scene in the Shards.

Sértő-Radics Sarolta

There’s a remarkable piece (1957) by Capote where he visits Brando in Japan. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1957/11/09/the-duke-in-his-domain

Mel

By the way, has Bret given us his thoughts on Jon Hamm's pierced nipples in "Fargo" yet? I can't remember. I skipped the last season with Chris Rock, but this latest one is pretty decent. Hamm's a hunk.

John Q. Thompson

Yeah what the fuck, he couldn't tell us about it before the press release? I'm on other Patreon pages where that's one of the key perks of subscribing. Getting in-the-know behind the scenes info before the public.

John Q. Thompson

About to revisit it thanks to Arrow's 4K release. Such a great film. Probably Patrick Swayze's last great film role.

John Q. Thompson

Get Gaspar Noe on the show.

Alexander Quattlander

Please do a monologue on Donnie Darko

Sértő-Radics Sarolta

Holy shit I just saw the news about Relapse! Go get em Bret!!!

Travis Danner

Yeah, it is good. It pushes back on some of the narratives about him, like he was tortured about being gay. At least from watching the doc it appeared like he wasn't even trying to hide it that much. He never even had a showbiz wife to cover it up or anything like that.

Alex Waller

Hurt and Turner in Body heat Ford and Young in Blade Runner Cage and Shue in Leaving Las Vegas And for what it’s worth, the first 10 minutes of Irreversible takes you right to the head smashing fire extinguisher moment. The beautiful naked moment in that film is much later , if you’re watching the original cut, the backwards cut

Darren Ankenman

Todd off the rails again

Happyhead

Good on Bret for bringing up the new season of "Feud" here otherwise I'd have probably forgotten it among the never ending avalanche of streaming content. Funnily enough as a straight white man, I tend to love the gayer the output from Murphy and co. especially that second season of "American Crime Story" and "Hollywood." The Fire Island season of "American Horror Story" was a delight as well, haven't seen anything after that one yet though.

John Q. Thompson

Would that be "Making Montgomery Clift"? Gonna have to check that out, thanks for rec.

John Q. Thompson

Ahh, my favorite comment.

John Q. Thompson

Also Lars and the Real Girl

Alex Waller

You forgot Lea Thompson and Howard The Duck in the great romance couples

Richard Raymond

Adam dropping jewels of wisdom with that cat metaphor 🎯

Normaling

The documentary about Monty Clift and his family is worth watching. His brother and dad were prolific in recording phone conversations, wire tapping the house etc

Marcelo

Bret is depressed again?

Dave Mason

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.
