Someone needs to redpill Bret about WW2.

Ray Bowers

I think Bret looks great, he’s gotten better with age, from the pics I’ve seen.

Sodaheiress

Agree completely

Sodaheiress

“Repo Man” is my favorite movie of all time. Not the best, technically, but I love it, and I’ve seen it over half-a -dozen times.

J Hay

Well if you wanna get in contact with me, there's plenty more where that came from.

John Q. Thompson

Aw that’s the nicest thing a stranger on the internet has ever said to me

Ashley

Nice, I’ll check it out

Alex Waller

Oh Ashley, to sit next to you and enjoy some cinema.. the fantasy lives in my mind rent free.

John Q. Thompson

Check the show Patriot. Same guy who made the weather man… same energy

I agree, I actually saw Mandy for the first time a few months ago and was blown away by the visuals and colors. And I love the action driven plot with not much dialogue, just this kind of prolonged psychedelic violent rampage! Thanks for the recommendations! I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t even heard of those two films! I’ll definitely check them out

Ashley

"Mandy" is really good, I just think it came out in a period where a lot of people had given up on Cage and not enough of the mainstream had been tipped that this one was different and worthy of being seen. If you're looking to have fun with one of Cage's many DTV efforts though see "Grand Isle." It's a bit of throwback to sleazy 90's neo-noir films that I love. Don't get me wrong, it's not great, but it's a fun enough watch. I still haven't seen "Pig", but Bret's dismissal of it has me thinking there isn't much to see there.

John Q. Thompson

you sound really fun Jim.

Constantine

Happyhead

I think Mandy is Nic Cage’s best film, followed by Family Man.

Ashley

Agreed, I’m a zoomer man and it seems like Gerwig, much like Swift, discovered “eyeliner so sharp it can kill a man” feminism and has recycled it for the masses when anyone who was on tumblr as their primary social media platform pre-2018 was weary of those sentiments years before the pandemic even happened. Even my Gen X mother—who is apolitical and raised me apolitically—found it scoff-worthy and complained to me about how milquetoast and lukewarm the feminist themes were for how much fanfare it’s received in that arena. The car commercial in the middle is the most egregious part but that’s received little acknowledgement because everyone wants to believe the movie has anything to say is so desperately clutching at straws for a text there.

Art is about an INDIVIDUAL’s point of view of the world, ideology is about a GROUP’s point of view (and their common interests). The more individual point of view is the more original and interesting the work of art is. Yes or yes?

Adam Marzec

Reading Barbie as critiquing two ideologies and poking fun at both seems overly generous when the “truth” is that it’s just an incoherent mess that fails to make any strong points whatsoever. If Bret’s understanding was correct, than America Ferrera’s nauseating speech at the end has to be seen as total satire which it very clearly isn’t. Idk if my totally different view has been formed by the fact that I’m a millennial woman who has lived through the tumblr era and lives in the bluest of blue cities where men have been totally emasculated, but Barbie was a complete eye roll for me and my gf’s who excitedly went to watch it.

Bee

That Truman Capote show is fantastic

Yes, I can tolerate the gummies better now After a few nights of the low dose seltzers I find I can eat a gummy and I am ok.

Tara Jean Sulljvan

You can always do what I do and just eat a quarter of the gummy

Travis Films

Where does one submit a question for q&a??

TheRealAudreyHorne

I agree, and I feel that way too a lot of the time, but also, Bret is almost 60. It’s completely understandable that he isn’t living the same lifestyle he did when he was in his 30’s.

N.M. Janice.

I don’t think that it’s Bret getting old. I think it’s just there isn’t as much cool shit going on as there was in the 80s and 90s and that’s why nobody is fucking excited about going out/anything anymore. It’s a total buzz kill clown world now compared to the glorious 80’s & 90’s

R. M.

Bret, I am an assistant caregiver/budtender: start at 5mg and work up to an amount of THC that works for you. Also consider a 1:1 THC/CBD option. I think Cage was excellent in Adaptation.

R. M.

That was my question and I agree.

It really is getting old. I have a social function in a week and I’m lamenting that I won’t be in bed at 9 when I would have lived for dinner and cocktails at this chic bistro only five years ago.

Pp358

Fast forward 27 minutes to avoid tedious party philosophy and drug talk . I’m hoping that Bret’s friend’s wife doesn’t listen to this podcast, might not be the best for their friendship.

Jim Weaver

Bret, I feel the same about weed and I live to drink my wine at night. BUT, try the THC seltzers….they are definitely a game changer for me. They are low dose whereas the average gummy is 10-15mg. I am telling you, it is a great alternative to drinking alcohol. If you want more details send me a note at tarajeansullivan@yahoo.com

Tara Jean Sulljvan

Mazursky. Next Stop Greenwich Village, Willie & Phil, Blume in Love, and Alex in Wonderland. Great little films.

Darren Ankenman

Bret’s monologues have become more and more disturbing, no ? Staying in, not wanting to meet more people, drinking heavily, blaming it on age. Odd codependency

Keith campbell

"Agenda" could do better to explain Bret's ideas than "ideology"

Alex Bielovich

Do you guys still do coke ?

Knokkel knokkel

It’s true that Alex Cox’s film career never again reached the heights of Repo Man (although I enjoyed Highway Patrolman), but he’s probably better known in the UK as the presenter of Moviedrome, a late night cult film series on the BBC, in which he spoke about films with such depth, enthusiasm and wit that I think he’s partly responsible for igniting my passion for cinema.

Paul Richardson

Such a good start

Pugeljr

The Weather Man is the best Nicolas Cage film

Alex Waller

Raising Arizona and Moonstruck are the best Nic Cage films

Seneca Garcia

I know Bret likes Bristol Farms but has he tried the fresh chocolate chip cookies at the Westwood location? Not crack but…

Bridget H Burns

Good tease for next weeks episode. I like when we know there's another Q&A coming

Dominic Dilullo

The real question is if Bret is ok. Toddy Boy can and does get a bit violent

Happyhead

Did Bret slip up there?

Happyhead

I hope Todd is okay

DS

Bret needs to get out of that relationship like yesterday. Dude is a deadbeat Tweaker and one of the least likable people you could ever meet

Happyhead

I really hope his friend’s wife doesn’t listen to this episode

Happyhead

Me and a friend have asked the same question! Sounds mean, but not the type I would imagine Bret to be into visually…far from the tanned, toned hotties of the Shards 🫢

Ashley

It's on the torrents if you're open to that. In the meantime, BOB & CAROL & TED & ALICE and ENEMIES, A LOVE STORY are both streaming. Check them out if you haven't already.

Bryan

Same on both accounts.

N.M. Janice.

The more I find out about Todd the harder for me it is to believe that Bret actually likes this guy. Could probably do a lot better, seems way too unhinged. And what's with the court documents and Kanye West?? The LA courts have to be laughing at Todd.

John Q. Thompson

Hopefully changing his password as well.

John Q. Thompson

Waiting for the day this comes to blu-ray, never seen it.

John Q. Thompson

Yeah, I disagree with him strongly about that too. Also disagree with his take on POOR THINGS.

Bryan

Love HARRY AND TONTO. Mazursky is underrated and not talked about enough.

Bryan

Bret is currently yelling at Todd and deleting tweets 😂

Dave Mason

All deleted now unfortunately. They read like a meth head manic episode lmao.

Tommy Stronach

Bret’s dead wrong about Barbie not having ideology. It heavily pushes a narrative of female victimhood and male fragility. Maybe it shows a “way out” of these two things but it assumes a lot about culture that’s plainly inaccurate, radical feminist propaganda.

Harold B

Uh oh

Dave Mason

Bret can make a coherent podcast while on something ? He’s not only my literary hero. He’s also my drug addict hero.

Harold B

All I ask is if you’re gonna rant then rant legibly

Harold B

Yikes..

John Q. Thompson

This is a sad spectacle.

Pp358

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

I wonder if BEE is still asleep. It’s not good. Looks like he’s on meth.

Brad Turner

Clearly, having some kind of nervous breakdown.

N.M. Janice.

Todd going OFF on Bret’s X account.

Brad Turner

Hearing about meth orgies is hilarious, just goes to show how different we all are. Every time I've done it my cock shrinks to an incredibly small size and it's difficult to get hard without a Blue Chew. If you can achieve a climax on it, it's the best climax you've ever had. Then again I never smoked it, always chose the needle, but I've been off it for some time. By the way, do not go to weed for weight loss, never heard such a thing in my life. Every time I indulge in weed my weight goes up 5lbs.

John Q. Thompson

Very interesting to hear how Bret enjoys the solitary life, because I do as well. Confirms I may not be as weird as I thought. Recently had to give the boot to a girlfriend because I simply cannot share a bed with anyone and cannot have anyone around me 24/7. I need my time to watch films, listen to podcasts, read and listen to music. Plus I enjoy being a bit of playboy and having multiple partners.

John Q. Thompson

I knew what Bret’s answer to the philosophy question was gonna be as soon as it was asked.

N.M. Janice.

Sorry. “How much pizza are you going to bring?” PIZZAGATE IS REAL
