Very good insightful episode.

PETER GREER

This guy was good.

Alexander Quattlander

Great ep and really interesting guest, his thoughts on storytelling especially, and his downfall story would be unbelievable if it wasn’t so believable. I’m reminded of Milan Kundera’s 1967 novel The Joke, about a Czech student whose life is derailed after he makes a joke about the communist party to his girlfriend.

Matt

Or he mistakenly believes that posting the same thing week after week is somehow amusing?

Stuart Chivers

This guy is totally loveable. Bumbling and bewildered and smart. Sorry to hear he was taken down by the daughter of my favorite writer. Phillip K. himself would not approve.

Happyhead

Smart chap. Off to find his substack.

Stevan Popovic

I agree. It's bad. Badly written. Terrible dialogue. And poorly researched in terms of the setting.

Since 2013 on BEE podcast 'victimisation' has been a thing... In 2024 on BEE we've had already 3 'victims' in a row... Please get your 'ideology' together...

Virgin Marie

To each their own, but I thought it was terrible, especially compared to previous seasons. I mean, why bother even calling Night Country True Detective without Nic Pizzolato writing it? Talk about lowering the bar.

Iain

I really liked the first episode. 🤷‍♀️

Patrick

Priceless

Duke

It’s a lovely feeling to share the appreciation for Hotel California by The Eagles — as I always do with Bret — but to be able to listen in, and eagerly agree with the conversation as it drifts on… that is the beauty of this beloved podcast. Thank you you both, for such an elegant, and seemingly natural, conversation! 🙏

Riley

Has anyone seen the train wreck that is True Detective ‘Night Country’? Talk about middle of the road, bland television. Ugh.

Iain

Great episode (last week and this week). Love it when Roy was a little bit down on Ayn Rand and then quickly had a more positive take when Bret recommended a few of her works (no, I myself have never read Rand; I must confess that the physical girth of her books have made me hesitant to read). Roy is also one of the first guests to go toe-to-toe with Bret on movie grosses. All in all, a very enjoyable couple of episodes. Adam - Is David Mamet a candidate for an upcoming guest appearance? I loved his recent “Oink Oink”.

Dave

Indeed

N.M. Janice.

Let’s see Richard’s browser history.

Jonathan Davis

Not me. I think this guy suffers from short term amnesia.

Ben

Mentioning the Sopranos and Transparent in the same breath was comedic gold.

BrienPiechos

Strange world we’re living in.

Richard Brody, the second string critic of the New Yorker, once tweeted that sex/nudity in movies in unnecessary. It’s only there to create titillation - as if that’s a bad thing

Ned Isakoff

I’ve always been curious what Bret thought about fountainhead glad he can also see the genius of that book from a literary standpoint outside of its weird philosophy

Harold B

Always love seeing this comment on every episode. Not sure if I've ever seen your follow up comments, but who cares. This comment has become a staple of the show for me.

John Q. Thompson

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

Admirably mature zen response from this guest. Hope things improve for him and props to Bret for having him on.

Thomas Edwards

Amazing guest!!
