S7E40: Flipping The Bird

Back in Los Angeles after his latest European tour promoting The Shards, Bret discusses two different Roberts tackling the same famous role, his one degree of separation from Kevin Bacon and making sure the white meat is moist on Thanksgiving as he answers questions from Platinum listeners on the air.

Great performances — Gena Rowlands in Cassavetes’ films …

Agree bout Cape Fear bein complete opposite flicks but Scorseses much more fun other one kinda boring. Also take Dostoyevsky over Tolstoy. Think Brothers is way more captivating than War and Peace. And Crime Punishment one of greatest ever. Also thought BEE made great point bout Leo in Killers way over did the character.

Alexander Quattlander

Very surprised Bret still hasn't mentioned Mr Inbetween yet. Eli Roth's favourite ever TV show, pretty violent, no ideology - Bret needs to see it!!!

GC

Highly pleasurable. Now I will relisten to Sam's show ;)

JEREMY ROBERTS

Killers of the Flower Moon was set and filmed in Oklahoma, not Texas.

Randy Takaoka

THE COKE WAS IN THE DRAWER WAITING FOR YOU

Dan

It’s pronounced ‘sini-ast’

Matt

10 years! Grateful for you bros!

Alex Holt

Same.

Justin

And all these years I thought the Podcast One monologues were fast like that because Bret was hopped up on coke.

R. M.

Bret looks at his phone in the theater ugh e tu Brutus

Stephen

I always wondered why the PodcastOne monologues were done so fast

Thomas Rankin

Paris, Texas is great. And yes, I agree with you. I too look forward to Brets film book. I love his reviews and criticism even if I disagree half the time.

Matthew Broderick would be perfect for the role of Bret Easton Ellis if ever it is adapted to the screen.

Having had both the Like a Virgin and True Blue records when I was an impressionable young girl, I feel it is my duty to read the Madonna biography. Congrats to 10 years. Been listening since the beginning. Don’t think I’ll ever stop.

Phoenix

As a fellow day-oner, 🥂!

I would happily read a 2000 page book on film by Bret - although he’s dead wrong about Paris, Texas. (Which I guess makes me a ‘cineaste’.)

Paul Richardson

Hey! Thank you very much!

Travis Films

It's funny how Bret is still uncertain how to say Coppola correctly. 😂

Dave Mason

I’d agree that Bruce should do his own podcast (that voice).

Dave

Happy Thanksgiving Bret and Adam 🦃

E

Bret please review GOD IS A BULLET

R. M.

I've been here since day one. Love this podcast!

Ben

Oh man ... really enjoyed the Joyce discussion. Dubliners, Portrait, then Ulysses is the way it's done is a great way to prime yourself for Finnegan's Wake. Agree about the language.

Sean M.

Glad to have you back, Bret. Happy thanksgiving!

Justin

So yeah, Bret reading the audiobook for Lunar Park. That would be a perfect revisit to it. If only...

Twan Van Geel

Where can I find the first podcast? And all the other podcast 1 episodes? Please. Thank you.

Travis Films

Yes welcome back.

Adam Long

insane the shards takes place in la and we only got that mask-required school campus auditorium live event 🤣 but two weeks off for europe lol pop off another us leg on the tour.

Nick Not Nolte

Yes Beverly was great but she did amble on a little long at times about mundane stuff. Wagner was excellent but could have stepped in more. Wasson had a great guest but they barely talked movies! No one cares about how hard it is to throw stupid parties for celebrity events. Albeit i still am excited for his new book.

Alexander Quattlander

Not that there’s anything wrong with it. 👊

Patrick

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

Thank you

PETER GREER

HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY, BEE POD!! AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Neil G.

Welcome back, Bret! And more than ever Adam is my fav b/c he’s always right. That dude is 💯 gay.

Patrick

If Bret decides to speak more on new movie releases I’d love to hear his thoughts on May December

Clare O'Brien

10 years Ryde or Die listener - this pod has helped personally, professionally, artistically - better than a therapist - BIG BIG congrats

Seneca Garcia

Thanks for the great answer to the Cape Fear question. I'm pretty much in agreement that Mitchum is probably the better Cady but that De Niro is still really good. I also concur that De Niro was excellent in Killers of the Flower Moon

Alex Waller

much needed bret fix. love the title

Christy A

Adam, please start naming mp3 files in one coherent way. It is impossible to sort them by name at this time. My suggestion is "BEE_S07E40_GuestName_Date.mp3". Thanks

Oleg

Welcome back!
