S7E37: Sam Wasson Guest Hosts

With Bret Easton Ellis far away in Europe promoting The Shards, author Sam Wasson covers this week's hosting duties and talks to actress/producer Colleen Camp about the human elements of the Hollywood machine and how she came to be the industry's prime party maven.

Comments

Meaning she hasn’t worked a day in her life.

Caleb Snyder

This women is a diamond. She works for love.

Caleb Snyder

Nice episode. Not my favourite but certainly intriguing.

chad mulchin

Yikes this was cringe.

Trevor Tillman

good lord

Daniel

At first I thought this was a parody of two self-infatuated, Hollywood-types talking to one another, so I thought it was funny and well performed. Then I realized that this is actually how these two friends talk to one another. Name-dropping. Inane stories that go nowhere. Every other sentence is a humble-brag. Is this sort of conversation typical for long-time Hollywood-types, or are these two just in a special class of their own?

Josh Groves

I love Sam's books (although hated his take on Tar) and love Colleen Camp but this was, um, not great. I was curious to know how she went from actress to producer but there was just no context given. I was also totally confused by how her PR work and producing work go hand in hand. And no Death Game stories!?

Duncan Birmingham

Fucking dreadful. Just because people work in Hollywood does not mean they are interesting. FUCK NO. FUCK OFF!

JEREMY ROBERTS

Wow, that was gruelling ! Insight into the journalist / historian’s craft though … find a maniac, let them ramble maniacally with the occasional interruption with a flattering comment and see what you learn

Keith campbell

pseudo intellectual, pathetic, kiss ass POS who thinks Don Siegel is low-class simply cause he makes genre films cause even though he's Gen Y, he gives into the most moronic, classical pseudo intellectualism without even questioning it...not to mention, Bret kinda does too...anyway, Wasson, seriously, fuck yourself...and Bret, seriously, come on, now 😂😂

Neil G.

I love Sam and Colleen was just as expected…I love a good rambling conversation

Elizabeth

Lol

Sean Meehan

Money back please

Ronnie

Yeah, sorry, but I also bailed after 10 minutes

Ronnie

Well played.

N.M. Janice.

Bailed after :10 mins. I never learned what it is exactly she does, and I’m ok not knowing

Eric Macom

love bret and adam and sam but this was awful

Collin Myers

not going to listen on my run, will not say more later, after my run

Collin Myers

Nailed it.

KCDC

Hey Adam, could you even see the studio floor with all the name Colleen dropped?

KCDC

Adam should cut together a ‘What Do You Think of The Eagles?’ compilation and keep it on ice for a future Brett-less emergency.

Dan Palmer

I say this with love, but that was brutal. Next time Bret is gone, have Adam host the show.

Peter Guzzo

Love Sam and Colleen, inspiring episode!

hollywoodending

Verbal felation meets verbal diarrhea. Atrocious.

R. M.

This was trash. Who are these airheads? The sycophantic dude was almost as insufferable as the Inside Hollywood old broad. So fucking amateur with zero introduction or context given. Waste of money.

Dancing

LMAO this is fucking unlistenable. I'm not even mad or annoyed, it's hilarious how bad it is. They sound absolutely drunk and not in a good way. I made it 7 minutes.

Tom Syverson

That was some campy fun, well done!

GC

Colleen it's not just a skill it's a TALENT

Dodge Zelko

I proclaim that LA is the most important place on Earth. The magnetism that draws the most talented people from all over America, even foreign lands, to come to Los Angeles and express their creativity and in return make millions of dollars acting , writing, hosting and just being famous. Drop $300K on a party, no problem! A $ 14892 lunch at The Ivy, the production company covers it, an all nighter at Dan Tana`s is covered by the studio. Famous people everywhere. Wealth beyond imaginations. $ 50M villa on Doheny, private planes and private yachts. Just by living in LA you will become wealthy from your creativity.

Knokkel knokkel

So good! Would love to hear Bret converse with Colleen.

clay

Ha ! Was thinking the same thing

Lionel

Heartily awaiting Bret’s review of the Five Night’s At Freddy’s movie.

Artemis Fedorchuk

Sam, “Slow down, you move too fast, got to make the podcast last” (with thanks to Paul Simon) A somewhat interesting, but overall exhausting hour.

Jim Weaver

I'm glad we got to hear from here. Grest character actress over the years. Would of liked more acting stuff then her party stuff. But interesting that she is a great promoter. Never knew that part of her life.

Robin Hunter

And there I was thinking it was Taylor Swift.

Thomas Edwards

Satire, surely?

Romeo Delta Charlie

Omg it was so bad I was driven to find a comments section that I didn’t know existed.

Mentat Matt

LA drivel tap is rushing here.

Paul McConalogue

Unfortunately, in 50 years, we will probably all be living like the humans in WALL-E.

N.M. Janice.

Bret on a book tour - and the podcast turns into Robert Altman’s The Player - Cheers from Houston - fabulous & good people

Seneca Garcia

Angela Burnbaum

Mike

Best show in years

Richard Raymond

about 12 years ago I saw her names in the credits of a signed, sealed, and delivered movie and had to go through the whole thing again to see who she was.....

Poetical Gore

Did you hear the one about Sharon Stone and the bishops?

Paul Richardson

An episode about parties Bret would never attend.

Dustin

He’s not bad, I guess, but I care not for him in just under an hour.

Alex Dermer

That's not even Colleen Camp in the thumbnail. It's her co-star Cynthia Wood, Playboy Playmate of February 1973.

Billy Schafer

It seems that bret had some publicity lately because I cannot understand why there are so many new morons in the comments.

Oleg

Couldn't get past first five minutes. Not my jam but Bret will be back so whatever

Erick

Glamorama vibes

Jim Seem

There really are some rude unpleasant comments here. An ignorant sense of entitlement. I guess that’s a lot of modern online discourse for you. I wonder in 50 years time will we look back and be embarrassed and ashamed by our behaviour in the cyberspace.

Andrew Hearne

Of course, it's Brett's pod, but I agree this feels wrong. I guess it's hard for Brett just to do an evergreen recording, given that he doesn't want to do film reviews anymore. And tbf a guest host is better than another Timewarp podcast, so perhaps there's no good solution for when brett is busy.

Harold B

Yeah, but still. Wow. :/

Harold B

Sweden and Portugal as far as I know.

Duke

I made it about 15 minutes before switching over to Last Podcast on the Left.

Alec K. Redfearn

I'd tune in for that.

Alec K. Redfearn

I second this.

Alec K. Redfearn

Get Alex Kazemi to be a guest host next time just so the comments will be fun.

Tommy Stronach

Kinky.

Jonathan Davis

Where in Europe is Bret, I couldn't find anything. Is it just a media thing or is he doing public readings as well?

Flounge

I don’t pay measly sheckles every month to listen to some rat fuk talk to an actress I’ve never heard of. I divest my previous keesh to let Bret’s godvoice sonorously rape my ear canals.

edwin

Skipping this one.

Justin

made it 4:08 before i stopped 🤣😵

Nick Not Nolte

Ohhh would rather wait two weeks than another guest host. Sheesh. take the week off next time 🤣

Nick Not Nolte

Bret please consider pre-recording episodes before you go away rather than a guest host. As it is some of us are not really interested in the majority of the guests and the idea of paying for guest on guest BS is not desirable. Maybe pre-tape some Q&A’s. And if you must, the only acceptable guest hosts: Adam, Todd.

R. M.

i love her she is a national treasure

Joaquin Chavez

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

I think it has something to do with 38 years passing by?

Andrew Lee

I made it 8 minutes only because I was on the train

Poetical Gore

Next time Todd should host. He is funny. I tapped out in under 10 minutes of this EP.

Poetical Gore

Total bullshit Todd didn’t guest host.

Patrick

I loved The Big Goodbye and will likely buy Sam’s forthcoming Coppola book. I couldn’t get through five minutes of this though. He sounds like he’s either on entirely the wrong medication or far too high a dose.

Stuart Chivers

Hahahaahahahaahhaaha! It was something else today...

Josechu Carreras

I know I know... hahahah

Josechu Carreras

Take it easy

Constantine

I like Sam. And his old man voice even though he’s only 42? lol and I recognize Colleen’s voice from seeing Palo Alto, which she has a small part but she’s very funny in it.

Ashley

Somebody please come get their drunk grandma

John Pineda

Dude, how did she Colleen Camp go from Clue babe to looking like Bruce Villanch from the Simpsons??? the horror

Poetical Gore

Brett wanders an LA party and stumbles upon an amusing Hollywood tableu, replete with more name dropping than a soggy phone book and a lady who speaks like Trump. That's (surreal) entertainment!

Thomas Edwards

Really? Hahahhaha! The BBE ... but Sam Wasson podcast... I don't get it. I pay for Bret not for Sam Wasson who I liked.. read the Chinatown book... but hey ! Why???? It's a scam. Not the BBE podcast this week... th

Josechu Carreras

HOLY SHIT! Dream guest

souleraser

Love Sam!

N.M. Janice.

His “Chinatown” book is one of the best non fiction works I’ve ever read.

Eric M. Rhein

Who better?
