Great episode

Amazing podcast, I wish we'd have more on translation and those mysterious untranslated books!

One of the main symptoms of depression is a loss of interest in things we used to love. We have experienced a film renaissance this year and the fact that Bret continues to bemoan the state of film says more about him and his state of mind than anything else.

Never thought I’d hear any BEE guest bring up Tomb Mold. This guy is one of the best of this season. Greatest Eagles response yet.

Great episode

PETER GREER

I had a bit of a listen to White Nothing. Not bad, good mix of distortion, yelling, and synth -- reminds me of Prurient during his synthier days

David Morgan-Brown

don’t let them talk anyone out of seeing the devil probably/ bresson. it’s a good one.

Nah, I didn’t like Oppenheimer either. I think the criticisms that Bret levels at the film are valid. I don’t like most Nolan, honestly. Both Bret and the guest talked about their love for OUATIHW, and Bret gave a positive review to Barbie, so I don’t think it’s snobbery.

Nah, Oppenheimer was a very good movie and I don’t really see what its dialogue has in common with marvel. Bret and Lawton’s dislike of Oppenheimer is because they are snobby and Oppenheimer was both a legit film and successful with the public. Since the public embraced a serious movie these guys feel that they have to trash it and act like they see things about it that nobody else can. But they don’t, everyone can see that the movie is not perfect. None of the ‘flaws’ mean that it’s not a good movie

Alex Waller

This dude is only 22?? Jesus. I gotta read Blue Lard.

Alexander Quattlander

He nailed the Oppenheimer marvel dialogue. And foreign films are way better nowadays.

Alexander Quattlander

I was thinking the same ie Nolan’s Marvellesque dialogue. James Cameron is similar in this way.

Dave

He's a middle aged man...it's just a feeling that he has. He doesn't actually formally KNOW anything about movies cause no one really does...it's a pop cultural instinctual observation...

Neil G.

In fairness Max Lawton goes to the New Beverly once a month, so he clearly loves the medium.

Paul Richardson

We need some guests who actually like movies . Every time it’s the same pretentious person from some upper crust school who only wants to talk foreign films or some bloated Aster movie. Since these guys don’t actually like or watch movies they have no clue if any of their criticisms are actually true

Alex Waller

Been listening since 2016 and still can’t figure out Bret’s relationship with movies. He’s extremely critical and seems to enjoy maybe 5% of what he views. Was weird to hear him start fretting about Flower Moon when literally all he does is complain that they don’t make movies like that anymore

Alex Waller

i’ve been meaning to comment the same thing for ages!! ik the pod does’t really “do requests”, but Cohen is one of like three contemporary writers with an ability to articulate themselves intelligently - also the only relevant pulitzer winner in years lol

Lara

Same for me too.

N.M. Janice.

Same on all counts.

Pp358

Great ep and guest for both segments. 👏

Patrick

Speaking as someone who has listened to the BEE podcast since the very beginning, Bret casually saying he never goes to the cinema saddens me.

Paul Richardson

Really enjoyed this guest and chat.

Justin

Bret please bring Joshua cohen on the pod!!!

Tanya Zeif

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

This kid’s take on Nolan is brilliant - also probably the best Eagles answer

Seneca Garcia

This guy is amazing.

Josechu Carreras

The Turkish novel hijinks fascinating. Related: 'Once Upon a Time in Anatolia' is a really good movie.
