Agree, great guest and interview.

Morgan Hobbs

Finally hearing this - love it. Really appreciate the Inside Baseball of my favorite novel.

Thomas Rankin

One of my favorite episodes you all have ever done. Almost like a “making of” feature on a Blu-ray. Robert had a lot of interesting insights into the business as it was and I could’ve listened to him for another hour or two. Would love this pod to have a few more guests from legacy publishing.

Matt Serafini

None of the kids get the company.

Travis Films

Hope you'll read my anti-woke novel. It's free! https://ojalart.com/hot-button-press2023-serialsmick-mcgraththe-deplorableinstallment-1/

Michael McGrath

Here’s a thought, maybe your “rules” don’t apply to everyone? It is a wide common courtesy to at least do a spoiler warning when discussing plot details of a show that just finished this year. You sound like an ass honestly.

Vlad Boshoer

Well then you shouldn't cry when it gets spoiled. Succession was a part of the zeitgeist so it's hard to avoid spoilers. Besides, caring about spoilers is dumb.

Stephen

Spoiler Kendall accidentally kills some waiter

Stephen

What a stunning behind-the-scenes look at publishing. One of the best episodes thus far. Thank you, Bret. Thank you, Mr. Asahina. This is why I subscribe.

Steven Volynets

I hope Robert Asahina writes his memoirs someday. He is a good storyteller, and boy does he have some stories to tell! Great episode. I’d also like to hear his stories about Allan Bloom, Irving Kristol, et al.

John Presnall

Mission Impossible action sequences have been way too long for a while. 90 minutes is enough for a movie. Tom Cruise ego has ruined the movies. No wonder the original stars of the tv series called the movies garbage.

Stevan Popovic

Brutal Eagles takedown

Timothy Bedinghaus

Yeah, not all of us watch TV as it premieres

Vlad Boshoer

You’re only just watching Succession?

Philip Huntley

I’m in the middle of Succession and Rob had no business dropping spoilers like that with no warning. What the hell’s his problem?

Vlad Boshoer

I think this is from the original Picador (British) hardcover print of American Psycho, which is very difficult to find. They (Picador) also used it for their paperback reissue in 2014 (I think), which Bret references in this episode

Trezerand

Really good episode!

Tracy Stapleton-Lutkins

I found the New York Magazine article from 1990 about the AP debacle. Super interesting and fills in gaps not discussed on the pod.

Eric Macom

Fantastic episode, one of the best ever

Matteo Persivale

An eloquent guest. Like BEE his manner of speaking itself is such a delight.

Thomas Edwards

Fantastic episode! Hope Asahiya publishes his memoirs from his days as an editor.

Dave

Oh, and best answer to The Eagles question ever.

GC

I could have happily listened for another few hours. Would have loved to hear more about the AP cancellation fallout.

GC

google marshall arisman.

Oleg

Does anyone know the painting or drawing that this cover is

Raymond Smith

Robert Asahina has stories for days

Erick

What a fuckin episode. Loved every minute.

Iain

Oh, Bret…you need to see Oppenheimer again.

Jon A.

I could listen to the history of publishing all day.

Phoenix

Loved this episode.

Justin

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

Excellent episode and my fav guest so far this season. Barbie and Oppenheimer review hints also dropped. 🙃

Patrick

Wow - that unspooling of behind the scenes drama was perfect. That ‘Martin Davis/American Psycho both appearing in the same magazine’ thing is one of the most fateful moments in all publishing, if true. Such a shame the Succession writers hadn’t heard the story. Bret too cool to even react. ‘What movies have you seen recently?’ To have the career he’s had after all that makes me love him even more. They didn’t even slow him down.

Bookth

More pure podcast heaven.

Pp358

I think

Seneca Garcia

Great episode! Two stars talking

Jorge Espinha

I'm listening now, the first part was superb and it seems the second hour will have the same quality. Thank you!

Jorge Espinha

One of the best episodes on this podcast. Brilliant.
