for god sake , the man said " I don't give a flying fuck, through a rolling donut" ...............straight legend

Alexander Barnett

Olson the anti intellectual? hardly. his podrade Dave Anthony is a bit out an emotional oaf. not Olson tho.

MeekJaybird

RIP 🪦 🙏

Otis Bateman

Billy and Gilbert Gottfried: two in Show business who never gave a shit what people thought of them.

Eric M. Rhein

They talked about how people are not watching films the same way any longer, and not going to the movie theatres, but actually here in Norway this summer, the numbers of people going to the cinema is the highest in 14 years! That said, the movies people see are americans, not norwegian....Barbenheimer etc. Hopefully, the audience will continue to go to the movies, and also that the theatres will expand their selection of films.

Vibeke Garrod

extraordinary moment and so beautifully executed as the end of a segment. I think about that a lot.

Trey Karn

Same difference

Michael

He was Silent Generation

Mr.Pink1996

Rip king 💔

Anna Sofie Jespersen

He was Lost Generation, not Boomer.

Michael

Sounds like a boomer Bootlicker to me…he was funny tho

Sebastian ospina

Re-listening to Friedkin’s interview with Bret, I had to turn it off when he got choked up over Uvalde. It got me too emotional. What a great man, so full of life.

Alistair Dean

I meant the comment was inspired by American Paycho, not the video itself.

Michael McFalls

Trump has a gazillion felony indictments. It doesn’t take a legal scholar to understand that he’s a criminal.

Michael

at the end of the day, they're both idiots in their own way: Olson the anti intellectual Trump hater who has no idea why Trump is bad but just hops on the Republican bashing bandwagon (though, that's pretty much Congress as well 😂😂) like a moron and Friedkin is the pseudo intellectual POS whose loud, arrogant, bumbling, idiotic pseudo intellectualism is on full display on that pod

Neil G.

Sleep well dear Prince. RIP

David Willis

I just read a post where someone called “Cruising” the ‘Citizen Kane’ of gay cinema. Not sure about that but it’s my favorite Friedkin for sure. RIP.

Thomas Matich

He once wept with a dying pig on the side of the road during the shooting of sorcerer. A true artist.

Lionel

When he was on The Movies that Made Me, Josh Olson made a disparaging comment about Trump. Friedkin deadpanned, “that’s the president of the United States your talking about”.

Michael

In the Uk they re-released The Exorcist to cinemas only. After not been available for many years. The audience was a mix of young and old. The reaction to certain scenes was mass laughter. As I left the cinema the young group said it did not take much to scare people in the seventies. A film for its time. He was a great guest on the podcast. RIP.

Stevan Popovic

his pseudo intellectual ass will rot in a pit of hellfire...but he was a legend who made two groundbreaking classics: The French Connection (1971)/The Exorcist (1973), and two masterpieces: Sorcerer (1977)/To Live & Die In L.A. (1985). Not to mention, two other remarkable films: The Rules of Engagement (2000)/The Hunted (2003) in the standard form and The Boys In the Band (1970)/Cruising (1980) in the pre-standard. Then again, he was a loudmouthed, arrogant, mentally deranged pseudo intellectual...but his contributions, edginess, and constant push of the idea that genre is art (especially for me, an artist who writes in genre) will forever endure. RIP Friedkin...and RIH (think ya'll know what dat means 😅😅👍👍)

Neil G.

Other than Coppola, was there another director in the 70s with such a string of masterpieces? pax tecum, good buddy

Trezerand

A lunatic and a legend. RIP to an all time great.

SwazzPerkins

An excellent interview. Raising a bottle of Smirnoff in his memory.

MD

He was one of the greatest filmmakers in Hollywood and seemed to be a great person overall. By far my favorite guest on the podcast. He will be missed, and I am looking forward to watching his final film.

Henry Gessner

“The Exorcist was great, but for me the real classic was Sorcerer.” Stephen King

Chris Jiggins

Rip

Tom Davidson

Recently watched Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on The Exorcist. Masterclass in cinema. I could listen to him all day.

Brad Turner

RIP Hurricane Billy.

Brad Elmore

RIP legend of cinema 🙏

Sean _ G_ Schofield

RIP to the legend who never gave a flying fuck into a rolling donut.

Flounge

Very sad. Your podcast with him ranks as one of my favorites! One for the history books. Legend for sure.

Gary Wood

I love the way he said Blu-Ray and sounded very Trumpy. Sorcerer is wild. Cruising is great. Killer Joe is nutty. French Connection is awesome. Bye, Bill. You were too cool.

Brian Rooney

One of the few filmmakers of the second half of the twentieth century who could legitimately claim at least 4 masterpieces in To Live and Die in LA, Sorcerer, Exorcist and French Connection… maybe even Cruising too. Legend. RIP.

Dan

To anyone who hasn’t read his autobiography, The Friedkin Connection, I highly recommend it. Settling down now to watch The French Connection. His best films were among the best ever made. Loved hearing him on the podcast.

Romeo Delta Charlie

He died?! That was one of the best episodes. Great conversation. Rest in peace and thank for all the films.

Jorge Espinha

To Live and Die in LA is in my pantheon. Check NYT comments in the obit - somebody wrote about Friedkin’s direction of a Laura Brannigan video. Hysterical and very deep-cut slice of culture undoubtedly inspired, consciously or not, by American Psycho.

Michael McFalls

Killer Joe is a comedy masterpiece.

Neil Anderson

😭😭 rip legend

mia

We owe so much to this fucking genius.

Jesse is Peter Parker

Rest in peace, Mr. Friedkin 💔

Sander August Schadenberg

The Friedkin podcast was one of my favourites. Hopefully Brett interviews more of these legends before it’s too late. Maybe another Schrader episode?

Alistair Dean

A true cinematic giant. Irreplaceable.

Adam Long

Indeed they don't. Thanks, Mr. Friedkin

E

A true inspiration, passionate until the end.

Lomax

Massive loss
