I vaguely recall him dismissing BCS, when discussing shows that people had recommended, as he didn't connect with Breaking Bad. But agree, BCS was so good, that it's a shame that it's a blind spot for him, as you can't really dismiss current TV shows in general without having seen such a great recent one.

I think the fact that Bret can get something out of it is evidence of the authenticity of his singular high-low cultural voice.

Seems like the perfect match.

It was also wildly anachronistic, especially when it shows Lenny Bruce's career implode because of language and subject manner....meanwhile, Midge is more vulgar and sexual than Bruce ever was. It's well made and can be funny, but it does grate.
