Great!

I just realized that Even Hunter was actually the pseudonym of Ed McBain’s early fiction! Wow! It all makes sense now. I just read several of his Hunter books and enjoyed them, but I think Come Winter was most thrilling.

Mara Capozzi

Can anyone provide a link to the recent screening of Last Summer on TCM?

Andrew Martin

BEE is old

Happyhead

Good call on 'X.Y and Zee', Bret. Just watched that and it's a wonderful, spiky, grown up film with real savagery in places plus lots of humour.

GC

Last Summer can be found, in English, on the Russian social media odnoklassniki.ru

Saron-dun for susan sarandon

Hearing about Bret enjoying XYZ with Elizabeth Taylor made me think about the film Boom! she filmed with Richard Burton that is a camp classic. It would be interesting to hear Bret's thoughts on it. Its biggest champion is John Waters - who also needs to appear on the podcast at some point.

Bazayer

Absolutely agree on the BLACK CHRISTMAS love. Aging like a fine wine.

Adding “affluent” / “effluent” to my Facebook post about weird Bret pronunciations

Glad that you said this! I always think the same thing. If Bret doesn’t want to leave his house and drive, that’s one thing, but there are definitely many places to see good movies in LA. Both new and repertory. While I agree that things aren’t great, Bret sometimes makes things sound more dour than they are. He acts like there are two cinemas in all of Los Angeles.

Also Adam or Brett: whoever looks at this. Brett talks about lack of art house cinemas in LA. And has listed them but worry he doesn’t know how lively the scene is. Check revivalhubla.com for viewing/to see what’s playing. Lot of stuff. Would be great to hear his takes on going to some of these movies, seeing old favorites in theaters

Bret, Rotten Tomatoes has been useless for years. Metacritic is the only game in town.

XY&Zee. (Aka Zee & Co.) From 1972. Currently available to stream on Tubi and Prime for free

Dugan

Love Last Summer. Shot on Fire Island! I saw it a few years ago on a random bootleg streamer like 123movies. The Perrys are underrated. Great episode- when is the discussion on Proust coming?

Marcelo

Great episode.

Brian Rooney

Just a heads up that LAST SUMMER is available on The Pirate Bay. It's being seeded, just downloaded it.

Bryan

Last Summer (1969) is going to be shown on TCM on July 23, rated R.

It's too bad about Ezra Miller's career. Sounds like it's gone, in a flash.
