Great episode. Listening to Where'd you go Bernadette on Audiobook-it's good.

Leonard Appleman

Refreshing to hear an honest conversation about a film that bombed, from the author. She DGAF.

Andrew Shaffer

Smart female guests are the best! Very good episode!

T

She gave the best answer to the Eagles question. She's obviously not a golfer! The dude likes her. Abide!

Jorge Espinha

OMG Bret you’re so cute being interviewed by William F. Buckley https://youtu.be/UCOSG2jCOoM

Andrew Stone

Best episode of the season

Phoenix

Same!

Phoenix

The question was borne out of Stephen Malkmus’ emphatic rants on their putrid stain onto society’s now-tainted fabric (a paraphrase). I saw the passion more for finding a person’s reaction to this unexpected Rorschach test than any kind of passion for the band. I think Adam is the Eagles geek?

Pp358

i was bamboozled by that. thought the eagles were a brett staple. they're ok???!!!!!

Collin Myers

After all of Bret's books, it seems a little redundant or beating a dead horse to attempt to analyze Bret. haha. I can't read those reviews because I get too impatient and I'll end up spending too much time writing my own review in response that I won't end up having anywhere to send it.

bpvalentine

WHAT THE HELL?? haha. Hearing how fast Bret turned on those beautiful harmonies made me clutch my pearls. For shame, Mr. Ellis. For shame!

bpvalentine

Right. But I think she was trying to make a larger analytical point that didn’t quite land, especially when working in the things Ellis wrote in White about American Gigalo.

Gabriel Sanchez

No, Christine Smallwood. https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2023/04/06/the-exorcist-the-shards-bret-easton-ellis/

Gabriel Sanchez

I did and it pissed me off because I felt like the writer couldn’t be objective about her review; she was obviously annoyed at BEE’s views on trauma and it showed.

Tracy Stapleton-Lutkins

Was it written by Melissa Broder?

Nikki Ferrari

Some stuff isn’t paywall’d. I think the review is strong, but then gets off the rails a bit with the attempts to psychoanalyze Ellis.

Gabriel Sanchez

Wonderful, engaging guest!

Dave

have not seen it? i think you got to pay for nyrb articles, right??

Collin Myers

I know this isn’t directly on point to this episode, but did anyone read the review of The Shards in the NYRB? Or has this been discussed elsewhere?

Gabriel Sanchez

"Father figure" is a great song to be totally fair.

Constantine

Hahah. I thought the same thing. He has definitely spoken more fondly of them In the past. Sounded like he might have been curbing his enthusiasm based on her response.

N.M. Janice.

What?! All this time thought Bret loved The Eagles…”eh, they’re ok.” 🤯

Ashley

Enjoyed these two episodes with Maria. But not enough questions about 90210.

Thomas Matich

I loved EO, and I walked out of EEAAO about midway through.

N.M. Janice.

This was the best episode of the year so far. Listening to two old friends chop it up about the movie industry and youthful memories was a real treat. BEE still the best podcast around. 🖤

Joe Paluck

Another great episode.

Iain

This was so great. The writers really are the best guests

Kerry

Great guest

Jon A.

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

Absolutely enjoyable

Jerome Busca

Excellent

PETER GREER

Another great episode with this guest. Will be sad there’s not another to look forward to from her. As another commenter said, appreciate and loved the respectful & funny ways they disagreed with each other on things.

OSOS

This was a total joy to listen to, this broad is so charming and funny! Loved hearing her’s and Bret’s opposing views on various things. This was so enjoyable!

ck kane

Man i was loving her until she blew the final question. But dig her taste in movies EO style. Also her response to Crawdads and EEAAO were absolutely correct...

Alexander Quattlander

Been pacing away and waiting for this one. Let’s go! 😎
