S6E36: Missing the Bridge with John Shanks

Agree. Couldn’t even finish it.

Albert Wolski

I’m really not very interested in musicians and producers. It was odd the scene he described about seeing his father in a retirement home. Isn’t his father and himself supposed to have money? He puts him in a home? I’m sure his children took note of that. Superficial scumbags these celebrity Californians

Jorge Espinha

John states that he and Sheryl Crowe wrote “Steve McQueen” because no one else had done a song about him. Drive By Truckers put out a song of the same name/topic 4 years earlier. To me the Crowe song is easier on the ears but the lyrics of the DBT song are more interesting.

Leonard Appleman

Adam giggling his ass off when John mentions he opened for the Eagles a number of times 😂

Charlie

One of the best episodes this season

Lachlan Reid

Lol at cutting the episode at “Where’s the bridge?”

Steven Menelly

Great episode.

David

This was fantastic.

john m

Really enjoyed and look forward to Part 2!

Dave

Boring dude! Too much name-dropping. Could have been cut to 20 minutes. Zzzzzzzz .....

JEREMY ROBERTS

Very enjoyable episode

Phoenix

This was entertaining. More behind the scenes anecdotes from John would have been nice.

BrienPiechos

Todd is incredibly talented (have actually spent time in the studio with him). He could help facilitate and would be amazing colab.

Patrick

The Who concert that was telecast at Shank's party was on December 17, 1982. They performed at Maple Leaf Garden in Toronto, Canada. It was the last date of The Who's farewell tour.

R. M.

Excellent musical guest and blast from Bret’s teenage years. How nostalgic. Loved it!

Paul Wasowicz

3?? haha. You're making my point for me. I'm pretty sure Stanhope and Maron were the old podcast, too. I'm talking Theo Von or Tom Segura, etc.

bpvalentine

Yeah man go for it!

Magnus Blomdahl

Bret should pick one or a few of the best of the 100 songs he wrote and record them with Shanks now. I would love to hear them.

R. M.

Nope. Stanhope, Maron, Jeselnik

M. Nero Nava

Also too, whenever Bret gets in the “you only need two - Hemingway, Didion” pocket - the best. Talking commas. All that matters.

Brian Rooney

If you’re talkin Eagles naturally, you’re vibin’ on cloud nine. Cheers everybody. I’ll say this … glad we can all converse. Excellent episode.

Brian Rooney

Ian Svenonius’ Against the Written Word! Get ‘em on!!

Brian Rooney

Would love if Critical Drinker came on - even as a phone in guest. Mentions a lot of similar points to Bret and also is a writer. Would be a great convo.

Billy Vega

She is fully appreciated in my brain and in my name.

Kristeen

The anthony jeselnick ep. was great.

Nikki Ferrari

Yeah xD

WOLF STAR

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

Ridiculously enjoyable. Funny moment when John admits that Bret’s infallible memory is right, then that tidbit about his party maybe inspiring a scene in Less Than Zero.

Bookth

Not me but it's funny

Jorge Espinha

Anyone else when Bret refers to his girlfriend automatically think, “yeah, Debbie”?

Pp358

Excellent

PETER GREER

I think there’s a Bill Burr episode from the podcast one days.

Pp358

Tim Dillon or Bill Burr would be my choices

Jorge Espinha

It’s good to hear somebody that lived a full live, is a creative person and has no resentment.

Jorge Espinha

Right. I should have said stand up comics.

bpvalentine

Teena Marie is under appreciated.

M. Nero Nava

They’ve had comedians on the pod before.

M. Nero Nava

BEE, peeps. Have you guys ever thought of getting a comedian on the podcast? There has to be a mother ton of them where you guys are. I'd also love to hear Bret talk about or even talk to some of the new personalities out there like the Critical Drinker.

bpvalentine

First rate - money worth it episode 👷🏽‍♂️🔨☕️⭐️

Seneca Garcia

The show gets off to a rough start with both guys interrupting and talking over each other, as if they are too excited to talk after all these years. Then they settle in, a groove develops and the episode gets much better. Already looking forward to next week.

Steve

Let the waiting and pacing transition to listening and pacing…Monday, funday! 🤗
