S6E34: Sliding Into Existential Renaissance with Shane Cashman

Writer/Journalist Shane Cashman and Bret Easton Ellis discuss transforming a military synagogue into a house of pop culture worship, tripping hard on the horse farm and the tangible benefits of teaching writing without cameras. Part 1 of 2.

S6E34: Sliding Into Existential Renaissance with Shane Cashman

Comments

Just now getting to this episode. It makes me love BEE even more.

Sodaheiress

You might have been joking, but "a 360" would keep you going in the same direction. A 180 might be more useful in this case....

David Lowe

I disagree. Both sides cherrpick all the time. The only ones who think that are the ones who never step out of their bubble. Or who don't care. Or who think better sources are "disonfo.." I watched "in real time" as douchebags" say now, Alex Berenson's life get ruined for nothing more than sticking to his profession and expertise. His writing is looking pretty good this year.

bpvalentine

Yeah, Nikki. But to be fair, I could, too.

bpvalentine

I imagine they had to look only in the freak pile to find somebody who traveled from the FOX viewership to CNN just to be terrorized by the virus. But points for being a grad A asshole, H-bomb. -- er, Sorry, H. I meant that for Owen (my brother is named Harold and H-bomb is what jocks called him in high school because he was supposed to be this hot shit basket ball player -- barf. he quit junior year and caused a mass exodus of other players doing the same so that was redeeming, at least for me, but not for our older brother, who was the other hot shit player in school a decade earlier and who felt personally affronted but f him, I guess. That was the year Pulp Fiction came out. What a good year. I'll stop bringing QT up so f-ing much!). -- I meant the "asshole" comment for Owen.

bpvalentine

I saw a video of QT confronting a dude who was following him all over town for an autograph (btw apparently NFTs are the new autographs -- NFTs are still weird to me. QT confronted the guy pretty hard. I felt a little bad for the guy even though QT had every right to be freaked out.

bpvalentine

Thank you ! (I liked the guy less during the second part of this podcast .. too much whitewashing of Kanye… but his poverty might be relevant to that too)

Keith campbell

I will never forgive what that evil c*unt Dan Andrews did to our state. He turned the police on us and ordered they shoot us with rubber bullets. We were locked in our houses from 9pm till morning for months on end. We were ordered to get two dodgy injections or lose our jobs. He told us it was the 'pandemic of the unvaccinated'. Utter fucking evil lies. NEVER FORGET

AC23

Is Bret a Big Pun fan?

Brian Borough

That's a fascinating observation.

Michael Bronspigel

Another great podcast. so glad there's a second part to this.

Michael Bronspigel

When I hear random dudes fanboying about Musk/Kanye/Mylo, I usually do a 360 and walk away. Hard 'cast to sit through.

mr greyez

T: Fuck modern culture. Fuck soft power. If America didn't want anything from Russia, they would be nowhere near the situation. Again, I repeat, Europe's border lines are NOT America's responsibility.

Thumperdinck

Not every pod can be a home run but this is probably my least favourite in a long time. They were just going over tired old covid, vax, mask and culture war arguments. It’s not that I agreed or disagreed with what they were saying but these discussions were boring twelve months ago. I’m so over it. The guest apparently investigated ghosts and aliens and shit. It would have been far more interesting to get Bret’s take on that than rehashing dull covid nonsense. Hopefully the second part is much better…🤞

Guy Lewis

Well said! This is going to be known, or should be known, as The War for Biden Family Financial Interests. They were already in the process of raping Ukraine "softly," (The way the US typically enslaves white countries.) when Russia intervened. Imagine if Mexico wanted to join a military alliance with Russia? How do you think that would play out? Hypocrites!

Antonio Primavera

It’s a lazy, easy way to omit responsibility. It’s an excuse that allows James to not support his “different view.” It’s similar to, “Just askin’ questions, man.” James arguing that we are all entitled to our own opinions is a red herring. It distracts and shuts down Kevan’s points almost immediately. James’ essential argument is “We can’t have an argument.” It’s similar to when Tucker Carlson takes his audience down a rabbit hole of conspiracy but spray paints the turd gold with “thought-provoking” questions and ideas. To claim “not everyone sees things the same way” has no place on a message board like this, Harold. And to finish his comment “old chap” feels like a wink-and-a-nod. James knows his comment is unproductive because his intention is to shut down meaningful, fact-based conversation from the jump, buddy ol’ pal.

Brian Rooney

Just a heads up: I skip your comments because they’re too dumb to consume. You mentioned me… “hi”. But, I ain’t reading your drivel. When I’ve tried—I just can’t take you seriously. It looks like we’re at an impasse. Have a good one.

M. Nero Nava

I was locked out of this podcast ALL WEEKEND because somehow my password got all unknowable and i finally reset it! SO GOOD TO BE BACK!!!!

Shane Tea French

Well AOC and you have the antisemites on The Squad. Think your TDS may be out of control.

Poetical Gore

I think it's because covid is one of those things that become so intertwined with the culture wars that we never as a country or even as a world agreed on the degree to which it was a legitimate threat to an overreaction of something that wasn't deadly IF you didn't have a compromised immune system. For every blue state that claims covid went down once they shut everything off, there's a red state saying they never shut down and just as many people were totally fine as in blue states.

Harold B

Name them, Brian.

Harold B

I live in Estonia, we have border with Russia. There is no over-reaction, the situation is dead serious. Russia is doing what they have been always doing in history - bombing their neighbouring countries, killing civilians, destroying cultures, not caring about the free will of other nations. Big difference with USA is that nobody wants to nothing to with Russia, they have nothing to offer. Mafia cleptocracy with no modern culture. They have zero soft power only imitating western trends. Country full of shit, only thing they have is oil and gas.

T

I holidayed in Western Australia recently, which is where i was originally born, and like you I was shocked at the supermarket prices 😂

Lachlan Reid

Was going to post something very similar. I think the reason BEE rags so much on the left and not the right is because this is predominantly an arts/culture podcast, and the left are the ones who control the narrative around these things. When he says that he isn’t interested in politics, I think he is being sincere. He doesn’t hardly ever bring up anything policy related. Its usually always in reference to the culture war stuff that he sees as being harmful to the arts and expression. I bet if he was doing this podcast during McCarthyism or the Hayes code, he would be shitting on the right just the same way. I am fully vaxed and took covid seriously, so I don’t completely agree with him on some of these points, but I do understand that he sees a lot of the narrative around covid being fueled by the culture wars and tribal hysteria.

N.M. Janice.

Dean, you’re being retarded

Tom

Well said. No argument here.

Joseph Orlando

Fascinating discussion. A lot of the people who listen to this podcast are total downers.

Ben

i think--i think--brett's stance is more artistic/ freedom of speech more so than the politics aspect. i do cringe a little bit at some of his anti-vax views and i, as a hard liberal, also agree that the left has, to a certain degree lost its mind--im 100% on board with bret's stance on aesthetics over diversity, for example, in movies. but when he drifts into covid, vaccines, media, etc., he just comes off a laughing contrarian boomer who has lived a good life and wants the younger generations to chill. and i get where/why he might feel that way. but it isn't why i love and pay for this podcast.

Collin Myers

Different views? Almost every guest is of the same political view. “I used to be really left but then this Candace owens chick came along and I didn’t agree with everything she said but she made a lot of sense!”

Tom

I've been to Australia only once. 2003 or 2004. South and western Australia for 3 weeks. Amazing landscapes. I went for an hike in one of your parks. 20 km hike. Probably the only time in my life that was truly alone. Great experience. I was surprised of how the goods in the supermarket were expensive and I coming from Ireland

Jorge Espinha

Seriously the cherry picking is not only getting old, but way past the sell by date. We get it: the far left has lost its mind, duly noted. But c'mon who in Gods name can you equate on the left with the likes of Marjorie Taylor "jewish space lazers" Greene, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, Paul "even my own siblings think I'm a nazi" Gosar, and last but not least the George "man with a thousand faces" Santos? These cracked eggs now have powerful committee chairs and are about to send the nations debt into default. This is far from the time to be talking about the woke hive mind...we have radical right wing crackpots in charge of congress. That doesn't concern you? Jesus Christ!!!

Joseph Orlando

Ha ha! Well said sir, well said.

Magnus Blomdahl

Enjoyed the guest. I thought he was articulate and had some well thought out opinions, especially on Covid. Nice to see lesser known figures getting some time on excellent podcasts like this one.

David Willis

Thanks!

Iain

I didn’t think anything this guy said was that controversial. Enjoyable episode in the end.

Phoenix

As an Australian, I couldnt agree more, rarely anyone discusses it anymore.Move on people!

Lachlan Reid

Some of it was predictable “White” subject matter but I kinda liked this guy. Question: is this the poorest guest Bret has ever had on? Raising kids on 19k a year is 🤯 (this is part of what made him interesting for me .. vs the overprivileged and un-stoic train wrecks like the Landis kid )

Keith campbell

Haha, thanks for calling my country a ‘hell hole’ and speaking ‘respectfully’… Have you been to Australia to see for yourself, by chance? Or is this what you heard on the media and YouTube? https://www.planetware.com/pictures/australia-aus.htm I’ve been to the U.S. and it’s an amazing, beautiful country.

Nathan Stewart

Well Thumperdinck. That's your view and it's okay to have that opinion. You think that if we get cancer you don't get at least the flu? Good luck with that! Regardless of who helps them, or if we help them, if a country gets invaded it shouldn't resist? Just hand the vaseline? I'm glad your ancestors had a bit more of a backbone, I'm scared to think of what kind of world we would be living in if Canada had borders with Mexico.

Jorge Espinha

From my listening perspective, it seems Bret got the two-shot requirement when that little CDC card was needed to access restaurants, travel, etc. Demonstrating, to be fair, his practical, leveled response to it all.

Brian Rooney

Haha based on the footage that came out of that hell hole, America would have been a bloodbath. We don’t put up with that shit here, and we would have never forgiven the government and it’s minions. We’re still armed in case of that sort of thing. 🇺🇸

Thumperdinck

Forging vaccine cards is super easy, but he probably took it like a good little boy. No judgment here.

Thumperdinck

So Bret said he’d prefer to interview podcasters over actors or other celebrities. Well, I highly recommend Michael S. Judge of the exceptional Death is Just Around the Corner podcast, as well as his (former LA record producer) younger brother’s new pod, Judge Movies. Both shows are here on Patreon.

George Quartz

So strange to hear Americans being so nasty to each other over this chat. In Australia, no one mentions covid anymore. Some people wear masks and most get vaccinated and no one asks anyone questions about whether they have done these things, it’s now up to individuals as adults to make their own decisions. Let’s respect each other and move on. More movie talk, please! Loved Bret’s top 10 of 2022. So many great recommendations to check out! Really enjoyed the book chat on this one as well. Great to hear how the guest overcome the abysmal pay adjunct professors get in the US.

Nathan Stewart

oh look, it's the last straw!

GellMon

What a yawn fest. While I agree we should be questioning prevailing narratives etc, let's do so with logic and reason, and not anecdotes about what happened to our uncles. FFS. This was some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard.

david saunders

Covid anecdotes, 1 hour, no thanks

Luke Powell

⬆️ This. And it's a shame; I figure Bret (and most of his audience) can appreciate a spirited discussion from both sides of the political fence

E

Just interested as I thought at one stage you couldn't go to a restaurant or anything without a vax pass in LA so curious as to how Bret could have his little dinner shindigs with no vax at all. As far as covid instanity goes, Bret is prob in one of the worst states in the USA. That and NYC (New York Cucks more like).

Billy Vega

ok, nikki, jesus, bite my head off

Collin Myers

As Bret is moving further away from the center and towards the far right, it becomes increasingly difficult for him to get guests on the pod that aren't (very) right wing, further enhancing his own political polarisation. Eventually I guess we'll see Alex Jones on the pod.

Frenk van Harreveld

Rarely does anyone on the right want to recognize that, I dunno, the whole COVID thing started during and with the Trump administration. A tiny detail we like to ignore and then sic the dogs on Fauci, the ultimate boogeyman.

Brian Rooney

Good chat. Has Bret taken any of the vaccines or just no boosters?

Billy Vega

Agree, I don’t mind hearing other opinions different from my own, but the cherry picking is frustrating, ignoring that the far right is just as insane and as propaganda-based is annoying, etc. They’re guilty of living in the same echo chambers they are accusing those on the left of being in, a quick scan of political personalities they follow on social media, the figures are all extreme far right personalities that post extreme examples of cherry picked facts and liberal freak outs.

OSOS

Nero you always say the dumbest shit. What exactly is the equivalency you think Chris is making. That the death of US soldiers in Iraq is comparable to Covid deaths in America? Wrong. That’s not what he’s saying at all. How does your brain come up with this shit? If anything, you should be comparing the lives negatively effected by the lockdowns. And that number is basically everyone, and the potential deaths are impossible to quantify because you can’t prove the direct relationship. But I kind of agree with you: an entire generation fucked over by the managerial class via insane lockdowns is far worse than several thousand soldiers dying.

Thumperdinck

Wonderful guest! The BEE Podcast once again brings on guests which broaden my understanding of the culture and “where we’re at”. Delighted to learn that there will be a Part 2!

Dave

I so dislike the political episodes. I invariably agree with some points and disagree with others, but in both cases I mostly feel annoyed with the polarization around the topics. For example I agree that in the US many people on the left are still batshit crazy afraid of covid but the narrative that it was a mild flu and people are getting more sick from the vaccine than from covid is insane and entirely based on cherry picking and not on stats. Basically I agree with Bret when he points out that the far left has lost its mind, but he is increasingly moving towards the far right, that has its mind lost for a longer while. Looking forward to movie discussions on the pod.

Frenk van Harreveld

Like like like like like like like like

Stephen

Shut the fuck up about your stupid runs

Stephen

Do me a favor —look up how many Americans died in Iraq and then look up Covid deaths. I’ll spot you 500,000 or so deaths… and then look up the term “false equivalency”

Gonna see BEE with Naomi Fry next week in Brooklyn. Looking forward to their interaction. Ticket includes a signed copy of The Shards for just $30. Bargain, man. 🙌

👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻And with your correction, relief truly does wash over me in an awesome wave. Now where’s some Klonopin?

Pp358

Relief washes over me in an awesome wave

Rebecca Luxton

Whatever the case may be, I’m not voting for the Republicans any time soon. Joe Biden is better than whatever the hell is goin’ on with Gaetz, MTG, etc.

Brian Rooney

I found it! As Bret would say “and a wave of relief washed over me.”

Pp358

he said it!

Collin Myers

That’s why you don’t scroll before coffee.

Pp358

The government - always dishonest and disreputable and totally untrustworthy - turned up at my house one day and said “hey, take this new medicine!” I politely declined, and closed the door. For that I’m this “anti-vaxxer” and crazy person. Covid was a serious thing, sure. But most of the general population, just like the with flu, have a robust enough immune system to be able to deal with it. But it seems almost everyone on the planet lost their minds. We will look back on this period like the Iraq War. Nobody will admit to ever having supported lockdowns and mandates, etc. You’ll have politicians on the debate stage arguing that they wanted mask mandates to end sooner! Just you watch.

Christopher Ward

You missed it! He replied already

Rebecca Luxton

Same! Similarly, back in 2008 when I read lunar park as a gullible college kid, I thought it was “real” for basically the first half of the novel

Rebecca Luxton

James, come on now. This rebuttal hits nearly every logical fallacy in the book.

Brian Rooney

Oh shut up, will you?

Dean Cooper

I could answer almost all of these questions for you, because he’s talked about all of this quite a bit over the last 10 years. Listen to old episodes.

Nikki Ferrari

If Richard doesn’t share that he’s going to say more after his run, I’m going to lose my shit.

Pp358

Totally agree! It was really enjoyable, even if it wasn’t the newest of information for people who are into him. I liked the story of how he kind of duped his friends (and listeners) in the beginning of The Shards into online searches about info on “the trawler”, which I was one of those ding dongs too! Lol

Ashley

We are steadily descending into retarded q anon paradigm here.

Oleg

I thought I saw someone sound recording btw, but I could be mistaken. Bret’s recent interview that someone posted in the comments contained some of the same sound bites, for anyone who couldn’t attend the event!

Rebecca Luxton

I was there too and basically had the same take — but seeing Bret live was still inspiring. Kushner was great! I was especially impressed by how Bret parsed and responded to the first question which wasn’t really phrased as a coherent question. The experience gave me a new admiration for his fluency as a live performer too, even with an easy to please audience.

Rebecca Luxton

Me too

Ashley

Very true! Hold an opinion. Hold it firmly, if necessary. But just try to accept there’s another side. And that’s a good thing.

James__

MORE SHARDS!!!!! surprised at how little bret is talking about the book now as it is being released, though i guess he is on a book tour. would love an episode that is more of a deep dive into bret's writing process, rituals, inspirations, editing process, etc. (but i am a huge nerd and i feel he prob doesnt think this would be very interesting).

Collin Myers

Not that I know of, I liked Kushner

M. Nero Nava

Guest was great. And I noticed same thing. My vaxxed friends always seemed to get covid and sick. Unvaxxed friends rarely ever sick. I myself never jabbed once and never tested positive. And i went Miami, Vegas, Mexico. Also visited my Mom all the time and never killed her like so many said Id do. Lookin forward to part 2. I noted down the short story The School by Barthelme too.

Alexander Quattlander

Ohhh very interesting. I thought Rachel Kushner brought up the violence and Tarantino question? Do you know if they recorded the conversation?

Ashley

At a glance , The Shards is getting some great reviews

Darren Ankenman

What are you talking about? How would we lose you? Europe (including Russia) would still do business with us at the end of the day if it benefited financially. America is not responsible to maintain the border lines in Europe. Figure your own shit out. We’ll be here to trade either way. We shouldn’t have to be the world police. Maybe if the White House weren’t so busy pitting The Ukraine against Russia all these years they wouldn’t have pissed the bear off so badly. One things for sure, without America in the picture, there would certainly have been much less bloodshed and infrastructural damage in Ukraine. It’s a goddamn tragedy the way that country has been sacrificed for global interests. Sheesh. The global American empire is the greatest gaslighter of all time.

Thumperdinck

No one in the show has denied anything you’re saying. Where’s the conspiracy? They’re merely sharing how they think the response was reprehensibly manipulative and destructive and that it is pathetic the extent to which the many in the upper class reinforce the dirty work of those in power. I think he was referencing that clip where that restaurant in a big blue city (forgot which city) denied entry to a group of black people after most leftists had defended the riots which were large gatherings.

Thumperdinck

It’s funny that our threshold is Q.

M. Nero Nava

No, honestly, you make good points with the Candice Owens, UFO and Christian stuff. I may have just become so used to the anti-vax, covid is a hoax, microchip people that a guy who isn’t screaming Qanon conspiracy theories seems like a rational alternative. I may actually be being TOO charitable.

N.M. Janice.

No, that question was a bit strange to me too. This guy was the one who asked why him and Tarantino have an obsession with violence. I don’t want to give too much backstory on this guy without him being around. But he has a history with Tarantino and the new bev… so I was like “oh no”. I can share the story out of the comments. Let’s just say I stayed put (in the front row) for security purposes!

M. Nero Nava

I don’t know, the Candice Owens mention, he’s a Christian— obsessed with uFOs and Kanye… yet getting vaxxed is a bridge too far(?) He had a bit too much of social media comment sophistication for me. At the end of the day he was a little too predictable. I try to just enjoy the show, and not critique every guest. But, when I feel like I’m losing brain cells or just experiencing a trip around the comments—I’m just checked out, and maybe a bit less generous. So, sorry if I’m seemingly harsh.

M. Nero Nava

I agree with what you are saying, but I don’t really feel like that applies to this person in particular. He seems fairly calm and measured, especially compared to most anti-vax conspiracists. He doesn’t deny that covid was real, but seems more opposed to how it was handled and the narrative around it. As someone who has gotten all the shots and spent most of 2022 social distancing and wearing the mask, and who does see covid as a public health concern, I certainly disagree with his handling of covid, but looking back on the situation, I think that it’s more than fair to say that there was a lot of misinformation and hysteria surrounding covid that definitely was fueled and attached to the culture wars. Being that he voted for Trump, we probably would not agree on much politically, but I did not find him to be particularly reactionary or a far right blow hard. At least in this part 1.

N.M. Janice.

When I hear ‘like’ every other word and the uptalk, it’s hard to listen to anything people want to convey.

Vin Bravo

Excellent episode. Similar experience in college. Agree 2020 mentally broke the country. Also a fan of Goosebumps and Animorphs.

Nick B

“We don’t hire white males.”

Jonathan Davis

Yeah he definitely can! I had a nice time too. Was that the guy who asked the AIDS question? Because that one kinda threw me, I wasn’t quite sure what he was after.

Ashley

None of these guests who ever claim to have nuanced opinions, actually have them. We can admit the psychological effects of lockdown were terrible, had serious effects on the mental health of youth but we can also admit that Covid was serious. As someone who works in healthcare, has seen the deaths from Covid first hand, it was a serious serious health concern. But I can also admit there was a lot of ridiculous overreactions to the disease, I’m not boosted, I don’t wear masks anymore (rarely wore them in the pandemic), but you know what? Covid was real - people died, and the deaths went down after we took steps to prevent them. But this conspiracy theory Covid stuff is just as ridiculous as the people on the other side of the aisle who washed groceries etc. You go from being brainwashed by CNN to being brainwashed by Fox News. To call out one of these talking points is “he had three pre-existing conditions but the gov classified his death from Covid”, yeah they would do that if it was the flu too - that’s not a conspiracy to inflate deaths, an illness caused further complications on top of pre-existing complications. Sure maybe those pre-existing conditions would have caused their death in the near future anyways, but it was contracting Covid that led to it. Additionally who are these white people who were specifically telling black people they couldn’t go out unless they got vaxxed?? Hasn’t been a good guest since the Perfume Nationalist, hoping that changes soon.

OSOS

The guy sitting next to me in the front row (who managed to get one of the few questions in) is a guy obsessed with Quentin Tarantino. He’s been 86’d by the new bev. He managed to fuss with his phone the whole night, mutter to himself, repeating the question to himself over and over… other than that I had a nice time. BEE really can riff on any question and offer candid and sharp insight

M. Nero Nava

Great discussion 👍🏻

Jon A.

I was totally bummed when this one ended. Can’t wait for part 2 😎

Rob McCauley

Been steeping myself in podcast Recs this new year - A+ Cinema Speculation, Blake Bailey’s Roth Bio and just received in the mail Mary Robison’s An Amateur’s Guide To The Night, also just finished Lili Anolik’s Eve Babbitz BEE podcast endorsed bio - all really good stuff !

Seneca Garcia

As an older millennial myself, I really liked this guy. I relate to his perspective of isolation and disconnection with the world stemming from his unique upbringing. I also loved “Goosebumps”. I went to the Santa Monica reading last night, and while it was cool, I feel it didn’t shed much new light on anything any regular listener of Bret wouldn’t already know. The audience questions were, as usual, a complete generic snooze fest that Bret still managed to turn into something worth hearing.

Ashley

I was hoping BEE grew out of these dim millenial internet shock jocky personalities. Half of what the guest says is half baked nonsense, and weird bro posturing. Also, the conflating of racism and Covid shots is weird inverted racism. This dude was not my bag at all. Also, the Candice Owen ref made me say “check please”. You can be a smart non-black box posting, non woke warrior and also think Covid was a real concern. The two things aren’t so disparate. Arguing on the fringes and using anecdotal evidence isn’t how public health crises are managed. Its what leads to extinction. Haha This guest literally was like “the doctor gave me bad advice”. Imagine a student telling an (adjunct) professor “you’re giving me bad advice”. Ridiculous guy. Anyway… Also, I was at the Santa Monica q&a thing last night. It was really great. Glad BEE didn’t make a statement by cancelling and being a Covid mask warrior

M. Nero Nava

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

It’s good to have different views. Accept that not everyone sees things the same way. It keeps the mind agile, old chap.

James__

I think we can walk and chew gum at the same time. Covid is serious and the vaccines helped (look at the drop of the death toll) but the reaction of panic by health authorities was incompetent. We took two years out of the life of young people. Youth is short. We damaged the education of countless millions. And the worst was the solitary death of millions , that died isolated from their love ones or lived the last months of years of their lives in house arrest and isolated from the people they loved. Not to mention the health degradation of all other non covid patients. How many women died prematurely of breast cancer, how many unnecessary amputations of diabetes patients. There’s more examples of total failure of the authorities

Jorge Espinha

You in America are free to do as you please. But it’s deadly serious for us in Europe. Even for someone like me that lives at the western edge of the continent. The appeasement failed and made Russia bolder. If you point out that we, Europeans are the main culprits you would be right, if you further add that we haven’t paid our share of the defense bill, you will be again right. However we, EUROPE are your biggest foreigner investors and your biggest market, can you really afford to lose us? Ukraine is a pretty corrupt place but, it’s still a democracy that is moving towards western values and wants integration inside the European Union ( and here we do pay the bills and every new member gets a Marshal plan).

Jorge Espinha

Excellent!! I loved the themes and the guest. Keep up the good work.

Jerome Busca

Great link, thanks

Kevan Christie

Bizarre episode and the Covid stuff was bonkers. Millions of people have died and we get this lame vaccine/anti vaccine chat. No idea who this guy is, can we get back to having guests with a bit of gravitas discussing movies, books and music. Cheers.

Kevan Christie

Thanks for sharing! 😀

Patrick

The war in Ukraine is the new version of Covid. Over-reaction, virtue signaling, pleas for money, the creation of a king (Fauci, Zellensky), overstatement of deaths, the inability of people to have honest discussions about it. Meet the new boss...

Steve

Thanks for sharing!

David Eugene

I’m jonesin!!! When it’s not posted by 10 am on Monday I start to go through withdrawals!

David Eugene

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0dwn2qw Bret on radio 4. It will be gone in a few days.

Stevan Popovic

Excellent, thank you …..

PETER GREER

"Reason nr 80 because I'm gay" ....well I hate to break it to you Bret, but I used to work with this gay guy at the pharmacy(we are both pharmacists) and he did the pill swallowing drama periodically, and he knew the pills wouldn't kill him, so it was pure "look at me, look at me!" Daddy issues probably, he usually dated older guys. Big pain in the ass (no pun intended) stereotypical flamboyant gay, I'm sure you would love him 😉.
