Comments

Just a slight thing, but you left off Poltergeist when naming Spielberg’s writing credits. “This house is clean.”

Lamphorn

Enjoyed hearing your thoughts on The Fabelmans. My personal fave of 22 and easily top 10 Spielberg. Really clicked for me on viewing 2.

Alethia St. Joan

As well as The Sea, I think Bret would love The Book Of Evidence by John Banville - very nabokovian. If you wouldn’t mind passing on the recommendation Adam…

Rory Kiberd

Matinée should be synonymous with Bret at this point

Keagan Afonso

I think he actually did watch “The Staircase” and mostly liked it from what I remember

Frank Formica

Fave: Adam deadpanning "what do you like about the music" "It's really tuneful…"

mr greyez

i have to agree, aftersun is my number one of the year

mia

one of the best movies ever and the best dark-side-of-Hollywood-noir story. honestly it is a way better movie that Jeanne Diemann or whatever the fuck

Collin Myers

maybe tarantino's upcoming series is The Shards???!!!!! That would be fucking sick, bro!!!!

Collin Myers

The Shards as a series…why does that make me both happy and sad?

Ashley

ill gladly be an extra in ‘The Shards’ 😁

Lachlan Reid

I watched The Staircase. I like Colin Firth, and I thought he was good. Did Bret discuss White Lotus? I'm very lukewarm on these Q&A sessions, so I haven't listened, but I would like to hear a White Lotus review. I watched it and thought both seasons were great, but it is still fun to hear Bret's comments.

BUtterfield8

The remains of the day thing was pretty weird...

James Wright

Mulholland Drive is a masterpiece

Sean _ G_ Schofield

Very enjoyable episode. Sight and Sound would be lucky to have you as a film critic. I thought White Noise was mannered and disappointing. But check out Aftersun if you haven't seen it yet.

Chris Jones

I would love to know if Bret has seen The Staircase on HBOmax. It's not as good as White Lotus but it's very good.

William Mendoza

Hoping you talk about Moonage Daydream soon.

Tommy

I was so happy when Mulholland Dr came out. My area was iffy on getting those kinds of films back then. Lynch films were an absolute event for me. I guess I've nothing to add except that I can hardly imagine feeling that way now bc of ...even really good movies aren't as such that would or could generate that level of excitement. I'm a DC nerd. It's not a major part of my life by any means, but seeing DC get it wrong over and over... I decided I'm out as of last weekend. The fans suck and Warner isn't willing to stand by the things that do work and give them a f/cking chance to connect w people with standing over the actors w a loaded gun pointed at their skull and screaming "600mil isn't enough! We need Marvel numbers!" Marvel is fun but those movies dated themselves. MoS Steel will still be enjoyed 20yrs from now. Maybe not a ppreciated now but those movies tend (granted not always) be about a bigger picture anout the world and humanity... Marvel just wants you to think Captain Marvel is tougher than Thor). I suspect Marvel will be plagued by an camp factor that will emerge over time.

I also changed my feeling on Mulholland Drive. Living in LA helped a lot.

M. Nero Nava

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.

richard owain roberts

I remember seeing Mulholland Drive opening night and at least 5 people walked out. Definitely one of the most fascinating cultural shifts for any film of the past 30 years.

Normaling

Short story writers ??? 👂 👂 👂 lookin’ forward to a listen!

Brian Rooney

yesss been waiting for this ep

mia

Rebels Without Applause is a grower - Morrissey’s formal approach to the pop song troupes, lyrically reveal he’s in full, full command and at the forefront of song writing tout court - it does sound like a Carnival Cruise commercial 👽but he’s still got the goods!, never phoned it in - &You Are the Quarry is such an LA album ❤️

Seneca Garcia

They post a Q+A thread. Last one was after Thanksgiving.

Thomas Matich

Mulholland Drive is indeed a masterpiece. I would say that and Lost Highway are Lynch’s best. Rip to Angelo Badalamenti.

Thomas Matich

Where do us new platinum members go to post questions?

Sutter Kaine

Hah. Mine was one of the gap questions. Wind Up Bird Chronicle is def worth the effort but…thanks for thoughtful and fun answer. ✌️

Patrick

Thank you for answering my question.

PETER GREER

Oh, it's Fabelmans not Fablemans. Not a "fable", but close. Get it? Movie makers are so special, such "magic" makers. Ugh.

Steve

I know most listeners to this show don't care about sports, but compare the Fablemans (ugh) to the recent World Cup final. Sports are so much better.
