ChatGTP gave me a great breakdown on all the Zodiac books - including this one šŸ˜‰

JEREMY ROBERTS

you gotta admit tho - the connections he made with paul doerr and the comic book/renaissance fair stuff was really good.

Brandon Cook

lol i think bret asked him last time he was on

Brandon Cook

he does seem pretentious. i still enjoy his books tho.

Brandon Cook

wow this was an incredible show. jarrett had me on the edge of my seat while he was going into the paul doerr connection. great research by him.

Brandon Cook

Sorry but I didnt understand his point when bringing up the lesb porn scene reading AP. To me BEE is not ostracized at all by the litterary community. At least not in France, he s quite litteraly cited to be one of the most influencial writer of the century. By people like Houellebecq, etc.. and I m quite sure he s well revered in the US too

Elyah Ducos

Great episode. I've ordered both books

Andrew Hannaker

fucking nerd, lol

Josh Sherman

WH

On page 116 of Motor Spirit. The book is full of typos man wtf?

WH

I’ve been intrigued by the Zodiac since high school, even did a presentation on it in my Criminal Justice class. But the case that fascinates me most, sending me down a rabbit hole each time, is The Black Dahlia.

Adam Dugger

So the sales on literary fiction are down. This has been said many times on the pod, but what’s the situation with genre fiction? Up or down since 2012ish?

Tom Davidson

Both of those movies suck dick.

Antonio Primavera

WH

Kobek seems like such a pretentious guy. That voice--eh. I disliked him the first time, so I'm not sure why I even bothered

Chase

Great episode. I've ordered Kobek's book and am about to watch a double bill of Dirty Harry and Zodiac.

Paul Richardson

Really enjoyed this! I’m not much of a true crime guy, but Zodiac is admittedly interesting and Kobeks’s theory sounded fairly plausible. I fear myself going down some kind of rabbit hole, so I’m not gonna pry too much. Also nice to hear Bret talk about the abysmal publishing industry! Still wish he would talk about the state of supposed ā€œliteraryā€ fiction nowadays.

Alex Johnson

The first thing I did after listening to the episode was check the Reddit Zodiac. There’s quite a bit of pushback against Kobeks’s theory there.

Alex Johnson

BEE meets the Opperman Report in this episode.

Billy Schafer

Mine too. At the beginning I was spreading for a boring interview about the new book, but I found it really enthralling. Also found the Zodiac review split the episode nicely.

Dan Zilic

Boring episode. Worst part was Kobek going on about the porn/american psycho thing as if no author ever has had sexual shock content? Has he never read Portnoy's complaint? Or Charles Bukowski? Or Henry Miller? Or even Shakespeare? Writers have done high and low combination before. It was more frustrating how he kept laboring the point as this earth shattering observation. Incredibly irritating. Also, I don't care enough about the Zodiac killer to be engaged with this content. But the monologue on the movie was great.

Billy Vega

Incredible episode. Kobek’s got unique charisma and a spectacular broadcasting voice. He should do a podcast. Immediately buying all his books.

Jerry Cornelius

Amazing! Going to order the books now! Scared me shitless, and I am grateful.

grainpulp

Tedious. Really dull.

Kevan Christie

No Eagles!?

Alex Bielovich

If Kobek really wants to generate noise for his self-published book (which I bought and am enjoying), then he should post some of his ideas on a site like 'websleuths' where people autistically obsess over this sort of thing. I didn't see Doerr mentioned there yet.

Dirk

šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

Jon A.

Alright. So I got scared while listening last night … šŸ˜ž

Brian Rooney

God this was good. Love Jarett, met him many years ago & he was charming as well as a fantastic writer, but to think then that he would be the person that might well have cracked the Zodiac case would sound laughable… Incredible.

Benjamin Arnold

Exceeded my expectations.

Michael Walsh

hahaha

tjn1126

that's a long run babe

tjn1126

Fascinating podcast. Bret is so ahead of the game on this. Kobeks claims seem so interesting and NO ONE seems to have picked up on his book yet in the reddit zodiac etc. Hopefully this blows up

Chris De Burgha

Incredible episode

David

About ten mins prior to the hour mark, Bret pulls back and revisits Fincher’s Zodiac.

Brian Rooney

Where’s da monologue :(

Gabriel

As a huge FINCHER fan should I can’t wait to hear this… Bret you should have Fincher as a guest whenever he’s doing press for his next crappy film at the end of the year, the next one sounds intriguing an even more mature look at a serial killer…

Gustavo Martinez

am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run

richard owain roberts

Wow one of the best and creepiest interviews I’ve heard on Bret’s show

WH

Regarding the Zodiac Killer - the solving of this case relies on understanding that the person doing the killing was not the person sending the notes to the Newspaper, not because those letters were made up, at least not the orig. letters and codes. Instead there was a partnership here,

Candy, pure pleasure
