The B.E.E. Podcast - 12/28/21 - Gina Schock - SILVER

Bret Easton Ellis retraces an era of profound personal impact as it closes to the rhythm of cold, rare Los Angeles rain. Go-Go’s drummer Gina Schock and Bret discuss retroactively curating the past by writing about it through memory, the rapid rise of her band in the 1980's and watching it ultimately splinter apart over songwriting royalties.

Hello Adam and 🐝, check out this review of Lunar Park by the British psychoanalyst and author Adam Philips, a guest suggestion, happy new year from your number one fan lol muahahaha

Fernando

Still waiting Richard

Fernando

Regarding Adam’s question at the end: would Travis Barker be the drummer of today and Gary Clark Jr. the guitarist? Apparently Mdou Moctar is killing it with the axe as well.

Thomas Matich

Collin Myers

He def mentioned wanting to see it as well as digging Simon’s solo vids.

I could have listened to at least another hour with Gina Schock. She was great. It was hilarious when Bret got to the last question.

BUtterfield8

I don't know, but there is an earlier podcast with Sean Baker that I quite enjoyed.

BUtterfield8

Great one. No camouflaged politics, just a great interview and guest.

Asking here just in case anyone knows: Has Bret reviewed Red Rocket or talked about Simon Rex? I ask because I spotted once in a different comment thread some references, but I've listened to every new episode (except this one), scrolled down the patreon and haven't found where is this. Or maybe I dreamed it.

Thank you for taking us along this psychological exploration this year — what you revealed took guts and the podcast has delivered promise such previous great writing would only allude to. Beyond and pales American Psycho. It’s so hard to type coherently in this field on the phone, but happy new year and Cheers

Seneca Garcia

I think he mentioned it in passing. He seemed indifferent about it.

Adam

Did Bret talk about Licorice Pizza at all in any of the recent podcasts??

The Go Gos! Great Band. Agree with Gina 100% on the songwriting stuff. Bands need all the members to make it work. I'm a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan and that issue was supposedly a pretty big problem for the band.

The BEE podcast is the best thing in the aural universe. Thank you Brett. The cold rare Los Angles rain is the perfect backdrop to this episode.

Nice Brett thank you

Chris De Burgha

Thanks Brett, that was a beautiful monologue. I first read Less Than Zero in my first term of university in London in ‘95. It, and your other books, profoundly affected me and I go back to them frequently. I guess you’re my Didion. I hope you have a more settled new year. Your candid thoughts have helped me through a tough year with my family, so thank you for that as well. Happy new year, man.

I loved this episode so much it’s crazy. After listening to Brett and Gina, I got out of bed, (made it thank you Professor Peterson) made a coffee, worked out and watched GET BACK. Holy Olio. Love it. Xxxo Thanks Brett.
