The American Academy of Pediatrics has some good practical baby books that I recommend. They are built around established medical advice backed by research, and I found them to just be a really handy reference when we had our first baby. They have a great index so you can quickly look something up if you have a concern, and you can read ahead to see what the upcoming milestones in the kid's development are. Your Baby's First Year is the one I'm thinking of. My other advice is, don't buy a bunch of books. The contradictory advice will drive you nuts. Just pick one and stick with it. But like Dan says, you'll be fine!
