[PUBLIC EPISODE] The Wizard, the Witch and the Wild One: ep039 "Into the Woods"

The Battle of Abassin is won, but the escape, and the peace are anyone's game. Into the woods, we go, where the tall trees blind us and we cannot see the forest. The mask slips. We make monsters of men, and speak with animals. The chain of command is thus: hunger, water, music. Each family of sad adventurers is sad in its own way.

"Lets Turn this Doing into a Did" has to be one of the best one liners omg-

Esper Pendragon

So when the infantry is asking if Eursalon can fly, I interpreted that as a threat to throw him off the side of the cliff. And I can't stop wondering if everybody else was as tense as me during that scene

Zamp

I feel like there’s a fragment missing at around 56 minutes mark, after they decide to trade horses and before they meet the villagers. There’s also a reference to a stealth check at 59:57, which I don’t remember having happened.

Liuba M

Ame is giving Kronk

Nina

Taylor my man, if Silver says “I love you too” back you gotta stop editing it out, the girlies are so SUS of him rn 🤣🤣🤣

Kayla

SILVER, BAD

Melissa Shilale

Can't tell if this is sarcasm. I thought Silver was fine until this episode.

Andrew Behr

I forgot, how do sprits get bound? Is that what they did to the ocean spirit in arc one?

DefyAllLogic

THANK YOU! Silver is 100% gaezed (sp?)

Amy Baker

Yeah, I really loved Ame's choice to respond to not knowing how to deal with the soldier's perspective by asking questions, and I could totally see Ame's logic of, "This person doesn't respect those around them that they see as lesser in the same way that they're dismissing the value of their hometown, so maybe reminding them of their hometown and family's value will translate to more respect for their subordinates as well," but it clearly didn't go over well.

Adarsh Nednur

I think we are collectively projecting our mistrust of Brennan onto Silver. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop.

Alex

Honestly like what has he ever done wrong.

Elijah Peters

The "why aren't you bound" line just hit me so hard, it made me cry. It's so much like my life right now and I can't identify with Eursulon more.

Wilhelm Bulathsinhala

That's a fair perspective, but it seems Silver's understanding of Ame and Eursulon is primarily based on the fiction they presented when they arrived at the Citadel—that they were working with Suvi. His reaction to Eursulon's true nature as a Spirit, rather than Suvi's half-brother, suggests he wasn't fully read in on everything. This might explain why he defaulted to treating them as though they were under Suvi's command, rather than coming from a place of arrogance.

Agiddysea

“That the station of the world’s heart is not one of armchairs and baked goods…but of tramping boots and machines of war” Or smth like that

Jordan Charles

Silver and then Sworn approaching her to treat her like their inferior qualifies as them getting under her skin, I think.

bluebluebutton

I hope not 😂 I’m blaming Taylor til hearing otherwise since he said he did the last one

Nicholas Savage AKA Eursulon’s knight in training

"I need you to know that my name is Suvi" OMGGG MY HEART 😭😭

Emmmmok

It was very entertaining listening to Brennan *not* say "Helms Deep" 😂

Lojaan

I'm here for it ♥️

Lojaan

I'm sure it's a totally innocent Pat Benatar reference. Pretty sure. 80%.

Lojaan

What is the back half of an Aussie griffin? Are you half wedge-tail and half quoll? Awesome

Lojaan

THEY USED TO BE PAT BENATAR FANS!? I'M SURE THAT IS THE REASON

Lojaan

Hmmmm. Is this a Mulligan thing? Does BLeeM have problem with saying I love you..!?

Lojaan

I don't know. It feels like the hard conversations are to make Ame feel better, rather than any greater goal. Which, incidentally, would be an awesome character arc

Lojaan

Totally. It's the "your helping is not helping" thing

Lojaan

"cause I really liked the way you said my name" dammmmn Abria. You just come out with that emotional devestation? Drop it like it's no thing? You are peak at this. Aspire. Also I'm a little bit tipsy. Usually I do more sentence

Lojaan

HE STILL DIDNT SAY IT BACK!!

Alex

I felt that for the soldier, being reminded of home and those familiar things during a war, when survival is so uncertain, might not be what they need at that moment. It feels like Ame is navigating the tension between ideals and the harsh realities of the larger world, which is such an important and compelling aspect of her journey. It’s a nuanced look at how ethos and ideals interact with the messiness of life, especially in moments of profound discomfort or conflict.

Agiddysea

I had the same thought!! I was listening on Pocektcasts

Alaina.hml

Silver wanting to know Suvi's name is so sus

Lóre Stevens

Well, if there are any Silver-haters still out there after this then I don't know what to say. I pity those poor lost souls.

Matthew B

usually I re-listen to episodes 20 times while waiting for the next, but the social anxiety in this one gmfu. spectacularly awful vibes

kragonaught

THE NIGHT?? MIRARA?????

kragonaught

that line from the coven arc that’s like “Is the witch of the world’s heart truly someone who bakes sew in a small cottage?” it feels so true with every social friction Ame crosses. what is heart? is her heart the only kind she represents? in their own way, do the wizards and soldiers have heart?

kragonaught

WHAT DO YOU MEAN "THEY USED TO WORSHIP NIGHT HERE"!?!??!??!!! WHAT DO YOU MEAN "CORED OUT"?!??!?! PLEASE STOP RUNNING MR. MULLIGAN!!!! I JUST WANT SOME ANSWERS!!!!!

Kellie O Edwards

I was actually thinking more along the lines of Mirara with the way that old farmer was talking/scoffing about rituals and spooky stuff.... Spirits are revered/feared but witches seem to be in a grey area of myth/misunderstanding/mockery..... Eursulon can *feel* the difference, but the idea of a sanctum hidden up in the dark if *peak* Witch of the Waning Moon type shit

Kellie O Edwards

In this world, because can talk to both all the plants and animals with this spell. There is nothing they can eat that isn’t sentient.

irisilmaril

Rust, Rusty is a nickname

irisilmaril

Now that they are out of immediate peril I cannot help but think that any further action by Ursulon and Ame would no longer be just helping their true friend, but helping her agenda and the agenda of the citadel. Will Ame continue on as if Suvi is their commander?!

EisKat

The core tension of the campaign lies in how these characters navigate being called to represent forces that don't always align with their personal values or ideals. For Ame, her intrinsic connection to Suvi undeniably ties her to the Citadel, whether she explicitly acknowledges it or not. It creates a fascinating gray area where her service to the world's heart and humanity seems to exist alongside—if not within—her association with Suvi and the Citadel. This dynamic is especially interesting when compared to how Steel handled Ame and Eursulon. Steel seemed to allow both of them more room to define their own terms of engagement with the Citadel, offering a flexibility that is notably absent in Silver's approach. Silver's insistence on framing Ame’s role through his own lens contrasts sharply with Steel's respect for their autonomy, making these interactions stand out as moments of conflict and revelation about the Citadel's expectations and each character's sense of agency.

Agiddysea

Tune in next time! *jazz hands*

Kael McDonald

The single most stressful episode of "You're safe in a defensive position with food and rest" I've ever heard in my LIFE

Kael McDonald

The Ame apologists! Erika bringing their own brand of chaos to a truly adorable character has people bending over backwards to excuse Ame's missteps.

Arwen

Can we talk about the conversations Ame was having this episode in the same context as Brennan's talk about it being a blessing to be someone who does not shy away from what is deep and meaningful? Ame has been running into this wall with the soldiers, with the citadel wizards, even with Mr Callum, and I'm so happy she keeps doing it, because while it's uncomfortable for a lot of people, asking those questions is so important. Maybe right now that soldier isn't comfortable thinking of home, but maybe that's also pulled up a thread of thought that will let them engage with themselves more deeply, and change them much further into the future. And it's SO in character for her to keep trying.

Gotholi

I really want to know Ame's thoughts during the conversation with Silver. He claimed ownership of her in the service of the Citadel in general or Suvi in specific so many times and she didn't contradict him at all. Is it a mismatch of what each person believes service is? Is she letting him think whatever he likes in order to to not rock the boat? Does she actually consider herself in the service of the Citadel in the same way she is in the service of all humans as witch of the world's heart?

ConcreteDog

I cannot, for the life of me explain the choke hold this show has on me

Ryan

I know but it still doesn’t feel right because this is the second time we don’t hear it maybe it’s intentional on Taylor part for something to come but him talking to ame like that is majority of the reason i feel he intentionally waited for suvi to not be around to have that conversation. I have to listen again but if i remember correctly he did a head count of everyone before talking to ame then went to find suvi

Nicholas Savage AKA Eursulon’s knight in training

If it make you feel better- they do confirm that Silver said it back in the last fireside chat. Taylor just edited it out for drama.

Norah Clous

This happens a lot to me. I just assume I wasn't listening close enough, but maybe with all the editing to pull out the little bits of technical or general chitchat that I KNOW these four are doing, sometimes it zips back together slightly disjointed or short.

Arwen

It's giving Castrima Under

Grace Bee

My God that final line was so epic. How do they keep doing that?

One Punch Max

Almost hesitant to listen because don't want to come down from the high of Abassin and *anything* can happen in the woods.

Doctor Quixote

At one point I thought Sky said "Horse case scenario".

Aaron W

Omg i think ame was the only one that had good rolls all episode shit was bad for everybody and silver is on thin ice with me first i haven’t heard an i love you too from him and that convo with ame had me like yea it’s the whole citadel not just select few and lastly eursulon only good check was the forest that worships night that forest has the man in black written all over it Brennan is setting up some evil in that forest i can see it now a lot of citadel we’re with now are gonna die if suvi decides to go into the forest even after hearing the other troops went around. i only care about the core 3 and sworn sliver on thin ice

Nicholas Savage AKA Eursulon’s knight in training

I don’t think the village smelled like soap i think when eursulon gets a bad perception with his divine sense on he smells soap and honey because that’s what trapped/separated him from the spirit at the end of the episode when he gets a good check he feels the spirits in the forest (this is just my interpretation tho)

Nicholas Savage AKA Eursulon’s knight in training

So good. Just incredible.

Harry Dayantis

I thought the same! But I looked it up and Goodberry is a Druid/ranger spell. Witch of the Wild Green subclass gets it though

Gillian Moser

Also Eursalon saying this village smelled of soap gave me super bad vibes because a bath is what trapped Eursalon in the beginning

Annie A

Suvi shared her name and Silver didn’t say I love you back unless I missed it - I don’t trust Silver at all especially after his conversation with Ame and I think he’s going to break Suvi’s heart into a million pieces and use her true name against her

Annie A

God this episode was anxiety inducing. I keep waiting for some red wedding shit, I don’t trust ANYONE 😅

Elizabeth U

The squirils saved the horses? Who told Brennan to bring a level of druid?! A.G.

Aussie Griffin

I’m so curious to see how the conversation between Suvi and Steel will go after all of this O.o

TheCat

Is anybody else having trouble accessing this episode on the native iOS Podcasts app? I hate to poison this lovely public forum with a technical question but I also can't figure out if it's a me issue or a platform issue.

Lee M

A million miles from the most important thing but my Canadian ass was so thrown when Brennan said the temperature dropped by 8 degrees going into the woods. Right. Fahrenheit.

Jordanne Stahl

Same here on Podbean, a very strange jump, and talk of a stealth roll that i never heard.

Viktor Engholm

The stories that are going to be told about the witch and spirit when the soldiers go home are going to be epic. It could almost turn biblical. Are they going to ask about the Rok? They are high up, maybe these people may know a way to get them back and ensure they can go home.

Glen Petrofski

It’s true that Ame isn’t acting in a military capacity, but the fact remains that she is embedded within a military wizard unit, raising valid questions about who she is and why she’s there. Her actions, though benign and social in tone, contrast sharply with the structured hierarchy and responsibilities the soldiers are accustomed to. Additionally, it’s worth considering that the presence of Suvi, Ame, and Eursulon may themselves be a destabilizing influence on group cohesion, even if unintentionally. Lastly, Silver, likely the highest-ranking officer, is operating in a results-oriented, non-vibe-based reality where maintaining discipline and focus is paramount. These dynamics make the situation all the more complex.

Agiddysea

The vibes in this one were absolutely RANCID, folks, and I mean that in the best way possible. So few pieces of art really accurately capture the feeling of a conversation where the parties involved see each others' perspectives as the poison at the heart of society—not just anger, but also that slowly mounting sense of your hackles being raised and that feeling of pure moral panic. It's a testament to WBN's emotional verisimilitude that it absolutely nailed that feeling for me at least 5 times in this one episode.

Adarsh Nednur

From what I heard in the episode, Ame's engagement only went as far as her making a cute request for them to be polite as a reiteration of Suvi's barked command for them to not "fuck up", making surface friendly/joking conversation with some of the soldiers (people talk about sending Shelter into a guilt spiral but like all she did was ask about a recipe and if she had seen her family lately), and then tell Suvi that she's concerned about infighting and resentment affecting group cohesion. I don't really see Ame being nearly as forward or commanding or meddling as some people say she is. She isn't acting militarily, she's acting like a guest at a party which is tonally very different and could be seen as inappropriate. I could totally see people not taking her seriously in that situation but instead people seemed to take her very very seriously as if there were power plays at work which felt to me more about acting on how threatened they feel by her by virtue of her being an outsider rather than any serious demands or sway she was trying to impart.

Aubrae C

Oh i'm completely aware of how from his perspective it makes sense to treat them as if they are under command, especially given that he acts as a speakerbox for the military empire mentality. I just think he's wrong and arrogant in that assumption.

Aubrae C

If I was Ame, I would have absolutely ripped Silver a new asshole after the way he spoke to her lol...

Joey Sawyers

Is the artificer's name Rust or Rusty?

Jameson Madere

You have improved my life this day

TheloniousPunkyBrewster

Interesting, thank you!

TheCat

I wouldn't mind seeing more of Worth in the future

Bernard

Damn, Ame getting under everybody's skin with these "No, but..." conversations. 😆

Evelina Meiklejohn

Same. I had to rewind to catch Ame's response because I snapped, "I'll take that under advisement, bub" reflexively.

bluebluebutton

RAW: Gate, which can be used to summon a person to another plane

bluebluebutton

😳🫣

flyingwriter

That couldn't be more ominous if it tried.

Michelle Spurgeon

Listening to this had me in a constant state of anxiety because I was waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop because Brennan.

Michelle Spurgeon

I legit thought they might bolt in panic when Ame decided to talk to them about it. I was about to be reallllly worried for her safety if she’d spooked the horses and left their party with no food. 😬 (Not that they’d eat her! But I sure wouldn’t want to be around that many hungry, frustrated soldiers packing magical weaponry.)

Elizabeth Agresta

Failed miserably lol. Not us discovering the flaws of suvi’s so while she’s offscreen lol.

Olivia Buse

Lmao I was listening to that part at the bus stop this morning and actually made a sad little noise out loud when the horse said all they ever wanted was to be heroes 😭 thank christ for those squirrels, I tell ya

Elizabeth Agresta

I was listening to the Apple Podcasts feed and had the same moment of confusion, so it seems like it might be an editing thing.

Elizabeth Agresta

If I was a horse, would I want to know I was about to be eaten. NO

ceeg

SHAPE CHANGER

Porter Clement

Eursulon bout to embrace the man in black's mission and equip that badass sword

Porter Clement

I don't like that they were considering eating the horses although I get it. But I don't like that the horses know it was considered even more omg

Porter Clement

You ain’t seen nothing yet

Worlds Beyond Number

BRENNAN. You made me talk to myself on public transit I was so outraged and devastated by your narration of the horses. I’m not finished (just got to the squirrels and possible barn with seeds!!) but gosh darn it if you make me, former (who are we kidding, current) horse girl, cry in public, I will haunt you. They’re just babies! I know it’s realistic and desperate but you made them people! We can’t eat sentient beings!!

Olivia Buse

I care about Silver bc I care about Suvi, truly

ceeg

ohh my bad ty for clarifying

Lauren

Silver stop being such a BITCH challenge

ceeg

The episode uploaded to Overcast is only like 6 min I think there might have been an error, it cut me off right when Suvi pulled silver behind a tree. UGH WORST TIMING

Gary Sifuentes

JUST WALK OUT. you can leave!!! IF IT SUCKS… HIT DA BRICKS!! real winners quit.

robo

To be fair to Silver, Ame serving under Suvi cleans up a lot of chain-of-command issues for Ame and Eursulon being there. They are technically civilians in a warzone on top of being a witch and a spirit. which makes their status complicated

Agiddysea

Honestly, it makes sense why there’d be tension in those interactions. In real life, military units often have their own internal rivalries—like how Army Rangers and Green Berets don’t always see eye to eye. It’s a whole culture within their respective groups, which doesn’t always lend itself to outsiders offering input. Given the context of Silver and his men, they’ve been through so much together—fighting and losing people in the process. So for Ame to engage, without being a part of their military or knowing their struggles firsthand, could come across as overstepping. Her intentions might be good, but it’s understandable why someone might not take that well in such a high-stress, life-or-death environment. As for Shelter and the Imperial Infantrymen, you bring up a good point—Ame doesn’t really know them or their history. And given how things seem to be unfolding for Eursulon, it’s likely those infantrymen aren’t the kind of people Ame would typically align with. Yet, she feels compelled to weigh in, even in things where she might not have all the context. It’s a bold move.

Agiddysea

that’s fair. for me, i think it’s less about whether suvi or ame was in the right, and more about how you can’t solve entrenched institutional problems just by having some pleasant conversation. one of the things i LOVE about the show is seeing how suvi’s (occasional) brashness meets ame’s (occasional) wide-eyed idealism, and how fabulously the cast plays it out

Zachary Medlin

Oh man I went straight back to thinking Suvi is a buttface

Aubrae C

Yes, I think the implication of her future work, especially with the words of Marara in arc 3, is so fascinating. Because it could be spun in such a way as to say that there are many cultures and everyone does things differently but at the same time the systems in place clearly involve other people being seen as less than and lower caste. Of course the people at the top half of the ladder will say that the system works and there is no better alternative than what they've got. But at the same time, Ame can't personally go around dismantling empires because they don't inherently view the world as a good place (unless she joins the witch war that is ;D).

Aubrae C

I have a suspicion that in terms of family relations it seem like it might be a situation of "I came from nothing and nowhere and now I'm somebody and there's no need to associate with my life before the cotadel because it's all so beneath me and that includes my family" rather than any sort of magical compulsion to forget about each other

Aubrae C

I couldn't put my finger on exactly why that scene truly sickened me in such a way but you've reallllly hit the nail on the head. The Hate Crime Formula to a T.

Aubrae C

Honestly, I was never really that attached to Silver (truly, Suvi and him weren't seeing each other for THAT long??) and now especially after he tries dressing down Ame to put her in her place and imply that she serves under Suvi, I REALLY don't mind if his death is The Bad Thing that happens this arc 🤷‍♀️

Aubrae C

Have we been given any information about the kinds of spells that can be cast on a wizard if their true name is known to someone? One part of me wants to trust Silver, but his conversation with Ame makes the other part of me worry that if ordered to make a decision, he would prioritize the Citadel and the Empire over Suvi. I’m starting to feel really similarly about him as I feel about Steel. For Suvi’s sake I want them both to be on “her” side in the face of authority, but I don’t know if they would be. Also, I know in the last fireside Aabria said that Silver certainly said “I love you” back and it was just edited out, so it stuck out to me that Silver didn’t say it in this episode either.

TheCat

I think it’s worth considering that Sworn didn’t know much about Ame and Suvi’s history prior to meeting them a week ago. From his perspective, he likely assumed their connection was purely professional, not something as deep as childhood friendship. That context could explain some of his missteps in the conversation. Additionally, Sworn seemed to be trying to convey his own understanding of love, which for him is intrinsically tied to the concept of unwavering loyalty to others. It’s a very black-and-white worldview, and it seems like Ame’s perspective—which highlights the moral complexities and potential conflicts of loyalty—caught him off guard. I think her response might have thrown him on the back foot initially, which is when the conversation started to unravel.

Agiddysea

Glad to know it wasn't just me! In case it's an editing/uploading issue, Spotify is where I listen

Julia Whitmore

I had the same moment of confusion. I thought they were led by squirrels only, and then suddenly there were farmers. I thought it was my own attentional problem, and I had just missed it somehow. If you had the same experience, however, perhaps there was something amiss.

Tanner Nield

And she was a lot nicer about it than she needed to be, IMO!! Because that totally could have been a conversation that went more like, “uh, what about me suggests that I would be cool with you talking about people like they are subhuman in my presence???” But Ame did the right thing, I think, turning the conversation around on Shelter the way she did. Though it definitely threw me back to that one Insight check Erika had to roll when Ame was asking Mr. Callum all those existential questions back in the Citadel—that not everyone is going to be cool with having deep introspective conversations with her when she is a stranger to them. But I hope (in vain, I think) that Shelter took the subtle point that she might not have been too different from the infantry guys if she hadn’t been scooped up by the Citadel as a kid. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Elizabeth Agresta

Well, it seemed to me that Sworn was kind of coming at her with a bunch of assumptions about her allegiances and relationship with/to Suvi, and his whole thing about loyalty being a cut-and-dried, black-and-white thing obviously didn’t sit well with her, because sometimes being loyal to a cause or person can come at the expense of doing something you find morally gray or even totally wrong. I think that’s what she took exception to. But she didn’t come off as rude, IMO. His last remark to her (“guess it’s good that you’re you and I’m me, then” or whatever it was, I’m paraphrasing) seemed more cutting than anything she said to him.

Elizabeth Agresta

I cannot believe we are only five episodes in, and I’m still trying to catch my breath! Whew! 😅

flyingwriter

Um, excuse me Mr Mulligan. What do you mean "they used to worship night, in this place"?? that, worries me.

TētēKura

Not sure whether I was just not listening but how did we get from the squirrels talking about the farm and the gang discussing whether to go to the town straight to being led by two farmers to the town? Not sure if there was something missing or it was just logical that they sought out people, didn't get attacked, and then got permission to bring their entire group to a secret place? Legit asking, not sure if there was an editing error or we just skipped a bunch of boring stuff on purpose

Julia Whitmore

Finally a long episode! Yesss!

Anthony

plus the "respectfully, sir, I can do alright just by myself" to Sworn. fuck

I’m so jaded that my Bardic Inspiration ends up sounding like Vicious Mockery

Brennan trying to break Ame with Shelter's view of the lowest rungs of the imperial army... and Ame sending Shelter into a guilt-trip existential crisis in response is a thing of beauty

I’m so jaded that my Bardic Inspiration ends up sounding like Vicious Mockery

All the dominoes are being placed for an absolutely devastating end for Silver. "I wish I still knew her name." and "Suverine, lie down." felt like the kiss of death and that the fates are hungry for the death of another person Suvi loves to get magic number 3 before the book ends. I had concerns that we were gonna find out that that wasn't the real Silver and that it was an elaborate ruse. But now it's like "here's real Silver and all his real feelings; treasure it while you can".

Amaya Booker

You're correct. Sworn is who felt like he failed his mentor

Amaya Booker

Excuse me, how many brooks was that?

Bean Planter

INTERNALLY SCREAMING AT MY WORK COMPUTER

Bean Planter

Rahoaan and Chestnut forever.

Barron Botts

That's interesting cause I thought Ame was kinda out of pocket this time. Thought she was very rude to Sworn.

Agiddysea

Squox Machina

Lilith Evenstar

I am so thoroughly impressed by how each episode of this show keeps getting better and better. showing world building, pearing into class dynamics, messy characters navigating a messy world that doesnt offer consise moral choices. WOW. but week after week of horner courner i am suprised silver and sky didnt frick.

Jeremy Barrios

sending the wizard Shelter into a guilt-trip spiral, and a well-deserved one if you ask me!

I’m so jaded that my Bardic Inspiration ends up sounding like Vicious Mockery

Right!!! It's giving me similar Suvi geas vibes or some less sincere motives. I might be mistaken but I thought it was Sworn who talked about the failed mentor not Silver

Nobody

"A name cloak is a spell that replaces the target's true name with a pseudonym, wherever it occurs in the world. When cast successfully, every instance of the target's name throughout Umora is replaced by the chosen name, both in the minds of those who know it, and wherever it is written. The only exceptions are those to whom the name was specifically given before the ceremony."

Agiddysea

Brennan was like “yeah, I’m not narrating this Artax shit, time for Squirrels Ex Machina”

Bill Willson

like "i wish i remembered her name" is WAY to vague a thought especially coming right after him talking about a mentor he feels like he failed to Ame

Lauren

If the wizard gave the person their name, sure, but do they go back and give their family a written artifact?

Emily C

I believe true names are necessary for certain spells to work against a wizard. Also for people who knew the wizard before the name cloak, whenever they say the wizard's true name, everyone else hears the name cloak.

Agiddysea

why did the alleged "regroup and downtime" episode give me SO MUCH more anxiety than the battle episode. Listening to Eursolon almost get hate-crimed had me white knuckling

Lily Lechler

I had been keeping this question in my mind about how family works for citadel wizards who are removed at a young age. Is their family vulnerable because they know the wizards' true names? Or they erase their names from family as well? Edit: I understand what name cloaks do and the erasing, I'm more asking of the relationship citadel wizards have with a family they may have last seen when they were a child. Given that we were told to not trust animals because they serve Gauthmai - does that still apply and should they have trusted the squirrels? I know we did a check on Yule but ehhh. And the throw away line about soldiers 5 days ago, if Abassin fell, who was there 5 days ago? The worship of night makes me think of either Mirara or MiB or both. Please Eurselon don't run.

Emily C

ame and silver's "service" conversation gave me flashbacks to every time a friend's man decided to overstep in a convo. truly a "girl you better get your man before i hurt his feelings" situation.

Lily Lechler

Little word fun-fact for the group: I recently learned (to my great shock as a lifelong fantasy reader) that the technical definition of the word "libation" actually refers to the ritual practice of spilling a toast for fallen homies. The secondary meaning most of us are more familiar with (a fancy word for any alcoholic drink) was originally sort of ironic/humorous. Like "Hey Aecbert, let's go make an offering to the fallen, if you know what I mean ;)"

Brandon Carbaugh

i! dont! like it!!!!

Lauren

The way my hackles raised on Ame’s behalf when Silver insinuated that she “serves” Suvi, and the turn her convo with Sworn took… man, she’s got her work cut out for her with these wizards!!

Elizabeth Agresta

I'm surprised that the witch class doesn't have the goodberry spell. I guess Brennan didn't want an easy way to eat on the road, lol

Chris Kagamine

Damn, I can't believe a couple of squirrels led them to Helm's Deep.

xatlern

Oh yay a long boy todaaaayyyy

Christopher Anselmi

Another incredible episode. The confrontation with Eursolon was heartbreaking and really hard to listen to. Amazing story telling.

Marcus

BRENNAN!!!! I was fine until the freaking LAST sentence!

Erin

His nose??? Alright my guy, alright😒 (If you need me I'll be pouting in the horner corner)

Jasmine A Golphin

Also did Silver get edited out of saying I love you to Suvi again or is this intentional the whole wanting to know her true name and still no returned "I love you" has me nervous

Nobody

I feel like Aabria's warning is fast approaching. I am excited and scared for the next episode. There was a lot of flags set up in this one...

Nobody

There’s a good 30 seconds of silence at the end of this episode that absolutely left me waiting for a little post credits clip from Brennan and I cried when I realized it was just silence ngl

Roy Ernster

SAME. It's heartbreaking hearing "I'm afraid some of the cohort are viewed as disposable" being translated in to "you're sad we're not hugging."

Ame's journey has taken an intriguing turn as she grapples with understanding the structured, duty-driven culture of the Citadel/Imperial Military. Her struggles to relate to a world defined by rank, discipline, and loyalty to an authority greater than the self reveal a fascinating tension between her nature as a unifier and the barriers that exist between her and the rigid life of soldiers, especially in a war zone. This challenge not only deepens Ame’s character but also raises compelling questions about how community is built across vastly different perspectives (Sworn) and what it means to truly understand those she hopes to bring together. Basically it's all good stuff.
