Life Update

Hey everyone

I am finally ready to share with you all about the week I have had. On Wednesday morning at 1:27am (BKK time) I got a call from my sister informing me that my mom had a stroke and was being hospitalized. This obviously wrecked me and I wanted to jump on a flight home immediately but my sister told me that due to the fact that they got to her very shortly after it happened and was able to administer treatment quickly that she was in a good space compared to other stroke patients so I decided to wait before making the booking a flight.

This was obviously very hard for me to be dealing with and at that time I was alone in Bangkok with Kent only arriving 21 hours later. After a few hours of crying and informing friends and family I finally was able to sleep for a few hours. That afternoon I called my mom and my entire heart broke as I have never heard my mom like that, she sounded so weak and helpless that I could barely manage to keep the call going for more than a minute. You have to understand, this woman built our family into what we are and where we are. She turned 70 in May and still has the strength to get up and go work because she loves her job and has always referred to it as her calling. (She is a nurse btw). In that VERY short call she told me that she didn’t want me to come home as she will be alright. Even though she said this I still felt very conflicted about being so far away and felt massive guilt about my father & especially my sister having to deal with everything. My sister has been amazing btw.

So later that day I spoke to both my dad and sister to express my guilt and concerns and they both reassured that everything will be fine and told me to stay in Bangkok. I ended up sending them some goodies and care packages as a thank you for handling all this.

So now for the good news… mom just called me 30 minutes ago… she is in high hopes, sounds way better, speaking clearly and even cracking jokes (at my expense 😂). So far all the test that has been done for the last three days has been positive. Sis and I got her a carer to be with her in hospital and I will be sending her to a rehabilitation center on Monday or Tuesday for further recovery.

This week has been hard. Probably the hardest time I’ve ever had to face. I’m staying positive and hopeful. I’m also trying my best to be present as I am still in Bangkok. I’ve been distracting myself and it seems to be working.

Anyways, that’s all for now. I’ll be back soon!!!

I’m sorry to hear about your mom having a stroke. But I’m glad that she seems to be getting better and making you laugh at your expense. I know it is hard to be away from your family when something like this happens but I know that when you return you will be there to shower her with your love and care.💕 Prayers for your mom and her recovery and she gets the rest her body needs.
