Chanin's friend raises a good point, if you're being sent on a covert operation to the UK to kidnap/kill the king's grandson why would you take your badge? Is grandpa playing games? The King is diabolical. He's just having fun playing chess and manipulating the lives of the people around him. And he's been playing this specific game for at least 20 years (with Khanin as the pawn). Adopting and training Chanin trained in secret as if he did it for this very moment.
