Here's the second single we're releasing Friday night. Jo unleashes her monster shredding viola in this spooky number.
ABOUT THIS SONG
I wrote the melodies and hooks prior to having any lyrics. To temporally suffice I lazily popped in stand-by lyrics from the song "King Contrary Man" by the Cult... One of my favorite bands from the 80s. The idea is to have something to sing until you replace the lyrics with your own, however Ian Astbury's words fit so perfectly, they never left. So even though this song sounds nothing like the Cult's version, it's still technically a cover.
The music was originally written in the style of Swing Jazz and was begging for those traditional elements. We fought hard to not plug In the obvious cliches in order to create something new. The biggest breakthrough came by going half time on the drum beat while still swinging the snare with brushes. Unorthodox distortion, a Scooby Dooby choir, Kazoo, tap dancing and a couple thunder crashes really make this song sound like nothing else I've heard. Perhaps the piano bass lines are reminiscent a little of Devil went Down to Georgia.
