There actually was for a span of ten years (started in 94) where someone serially was calling into fast food chains (and other businesses but mostly fast food chains) pretending to be a cop and telling management to detain young female employees in the back office. In one instance the girl was detained for over three hours. She was stripped naked, searched, touched, and made to do sex acts on the man who was detaining her. They never caught who was doing the calls but obviously, many managers ended up with charges brought against them. It's actually a super fucked up story.

By labeling it as “artificial” it leaves an impression that it’s independently generated, where we know that these systems are trained and based off a mass amount of content that was created by real people that has its own context, and “intelligence” feels like too far of a stretch for what we are actually using ai for. I know that we’ve been talking about this crap for so long but I feel like words matter in a scape where media literacy is being forsaken in favor of convenience
